WELCOME TO SICAME AUSTRALIA PTY LTD
THE NEW GENERATION OF OVERHEAD AND UNDERGROUND SEALED
INSULATION PIERCING CONNECTORS AND FITTINGS
Sicame Australia Pty Ltd has established a strong reputation as the leading manufacturer and supplier of Low

European and American Standards. IPC products have been tested in compliance with AS4396 (Int.) 1996 for
IPC’s.
This catalogue will guide you through the range of overhead and underground connectors and other products that
are currently approved and utilised by your local electricity utility.
We commend these products to you and your customers.

Fitting Instructions - A 19mm AF hex socket is required
Separate the main cable cores sufficiently to allow yoke section to be fitted around the conductor and strip the insulation from the core equal to
the connector length plus 10mm. Thoroughly abrade the exposed conductor and loosely assemble the lower limb (mains side) of the connector
around the core by fitting the bridge piece, inserting the pressure pad and tightening the mains screws until the connector is positively located.
Set and locate the branch core, then cut to length, strip insulation to suit and thoroughly abrade the exposed conductor before assembling into
the connector as described above. Complete the operation by tightening down the mains screws consecutively, one turn at a time, until both
heads shear. Repeat the operation for the branch screws. If copper conductors are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze in
order to improve the electrical stability of the interface connection.

Fitting Instructions
Separate the main cable cores to enable the main channel of the connector to be fitted around the conductor. Strip 70mm length of insulation
(connector length plus 10mm) from the core at the selected connection position.
Thoroughly abrade the exposed section of the conductor, pass the lower channel (mains side) of the connector yoke around the conductor
and loosely assemble by inserting the pressure pad and bridge piece. Tighten the screws until the connector is positively located on the main
but do not shear off the screw heads at this stage. Set the branch core and cut the required length. Strip the insulation to suit and thoroughly
abrade the exposed conductor. Assemble as for the main connection.
Complete the operation by tightening the mains screws consecutively, one quarter of a turn at a time, until both heads are sheared. Repeat the
operation for the branch side. If copper conductors are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze before insertion into yoke.

Fitting Instructions
Separate the main cable cores sufficiently to allow the yoke section to be fitted around the conductor and strip the insulation from the core
equal to the connector length plus 10mm. Thoroughly abrade exposed conductor and loosely assemble the connection around the core by
fitting the bridge piece, inserting the pressure pad and tightening the mains screw until the connector is positively located. Cut the branch conductor to length, strip the insulation to suit, then thoroughly abrade and assemble the core into the connector by fitting the bridge piece and
pressure pad, and tightening down the service screws to hold the conductor in position. Complete the operation by tightening down the mains
screws until the head shears, then finally tightening the service screws consecutively, one turn at a time, until both heads are sheared. If copper conductors are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze in order to improve electrical stability of the interface connection.

For solid or stranded sector
Principal Application
Designed to accommodate solid or stranded
service conductors to a maximum of 95mm2,
from four core stranded sector shaped mains
conductors in the range 400-500mm2.
The connector employs the proven shear-head
screw principal to ensure that a consistent and
reliable connection is achieved. Fitting is completed by the use of orthodox hand tools only.
No specialised equipment or techniques are
required.
Each connector is supplied in a sealed pack
together with fitting instructions, details of
which are included in the technical data below.

Fitting Instructions
Separate the main cable cores sufficiently to allow the yoke section to be fitted around the conductor and strip the insulation from the core
equal to the connection length plus 10mm. Thoroughly abrade expose conductor and loosely assemble the connector around the core by fitting
the bridge piece, inserting the pressure pad and tightening the mains screw until the connector is positively located. Cut the branch conductor
to length, strip the insulation to suit, then thoroughly abrade and assemble the core into the connector by fitting the bridge piece and pressure
pad, and tightening down the service screws to hold the conductors in positions. Complete the operation by tightening down the mains screws
until the head shears, then finally tightening the service screws consecutively, one turn at a time, until both heads are sheared. It is suggested
that conductors below the minimum range requirement of 16mm2 are doubled and, if needed, redoubled to achieve the required cross sectional
area and, if copper conductor are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze in order to improve the electrical stability of the interface connection.

IEC 60900 TESTED 1000V
INSULATED TOOLS
J4
0107
IEC 60900 requires that all tools comply with various dimensional standards, to ensure that the tools meet important ergonomic design principles
and are safe and easy to use. (Clause 5.3)
IMPACT
DIMENSIONS
Each type of tool is subjected to an impact test to ensure the insulation can withstand normal daily wear and tear without serious damage. Impact tests are carried out at ambient, low and extremely low temperatures. (Clause 5.4)
The dielectric test proves the integrity and performance of the
tool’s insulation. After conditioning in a water bath or wet chamDIELECTRIC STRENGTH
ber for 24 hrs, 10kV is applied for 3 minutes to the tool whilst it
is immersed. The leakage current is measured and checked for
compliance, the value of which depends on the type and size of tool.
(Clause 5.5)
INDENTATION
An indentation test is carried out to ensure the tool’s insulating properties
are retained after being subjected to a point impact. After the impact, the
insulation must withstand 5kV for 3 minutes without puncture, sparkover
or flashover. (Clause 5.6)
The adhesion test ensures that the tool’s insulating coat will not slip, move
or separate from the metal parts of the tool. After conditioning at 70 deg
C for 168 hours, the tool is allowed to cool to an ambient temperature,
then various forces are applied to test the adhesion properties and performance. (Clause 5.7)
ADHESION
Each type of tool is subjected to mechanical tests to ensure compliance with various ISO or national standards and to ensure
MECHANICAL
the tool has the necessary mechanical strength for its intended
application.
Orange, flame retardant PVC insulating outer layer with anti-slip treatment.
Tough, impact resistant, white inner insulating layer, bonded to metal
