HOW TO APPLY FOR A
HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
Remember tax exemptions are determined by the status of the occupant on January 1st of each tax year.
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR A RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION YOU MUST:
Be occupying the property as your homestead on January 1st of the tax year in which the exemption is granted.
Your Texas Driver License or State ID Card must match the address on the property that you are
filing homestead on! - Your application must be applied on or before
April 30th to receive the tax benefits for this year!

Most counties mail tax statements
annually in October, and are due upon
receipt. Typically penalties/late fees
will not acrue unless postmarked after
January 31st.
If you receive a tax statement and your
mortgage company is escrowing funds
for taxes from your monthly payments,
forward the statement to your
mortgage company so they can pay the
taxes.
