Summer 2008 - Big Sister League
The Big Sister League: A time of transition
Where has the time gone?! It seems only a few
months since we last communicated, but so much
has happened! Here’s a recap:
January, 2008 – Building Bridges of Hope
fundraiser
The League launched into 2008 with our first
Building Bridges of Hope fundraiser. This event,
originally scheduled for October of 2007, had to be
postponed until January due to the wildfires. Later,
our venue received unrelated smoke damage and
we were forced to find a new venue just days
before the event! And even with the logistical
challenges, we still managed to draw 65 people
and raised over $70,000. We are deeply grateful to
the folks who persevered, attended our event and
gave so generously of their time and money. (See
page 2 for more on this event.)
A new management team
that we serve.
The board has also asked
Jen Moyle to assume the role
of mentoring program
director – another perfect fit.
Already familiar with the
program, Jen’s transition was
seamless. In addition to her
great work with the big and
little sisters, Jen’s also taking on several other
responsibilities at the League and serves as backup to the executive director.
Building a bigger board
The board has grown this year too and we’re
happy to have even more talent to add to our great
support team. (See page 2 to read more about the
board.)

of the League. Many of you have offered your

A note from Jane,

– to me – is synonymous with a change in
management. I like to
see what hidden jewels
I can find and get to the
heart of my new assignment. That’s exactly what
happened when I was named interim and then
executive director of the Big Sister League of San
Diego, Inc. I found some gems in the archives –
names of hundreds of women who had gone
before me. They organized and planned our
major fundraisers; they donated their time as big
sisters; they came to our homes and helped the
ladies; businesses offered their services too. It
was a treasure trove of people who gave 66 years
in providing the League as a source of refuge and
caring to the women and girls in San Diego
County. I’m proud, honored and happy to add
my name to that continuum of people that have
been a part of our rich past. My goal is that my
efforts will help the League to grow even
stronger and more prosperous for the next
66 years!
About Jane
Jane joined the League in 2005 as a residential
advisor and was asked shortly thereafter to take
on the role of mentor program director after
Marien Kissling retired. Before coming to the
League, Jane had 29 years in banking and had
worked her way up to a vice president level.
It was in 1997 that Jane realized she had another
calling: nonprofit work. From 1997 to 2005,
Jane worked in various capacities for several
nonprofits in San Diego. She worked for Jewish
Family Services, Meals on Wheels, San Pasqual
Academy and managed senior adult living for
Rancho Bernardo and the City of Escondido. In
June of this year, Jane accepted the position of
executive director for the League. Her farreaching community involvement, coupled with
a keen business sense, is a tremendous asset to
the League.

Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian
Church Group
The Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian Church Group of
volunteers came to our homes and volunteered their time
and labor. They painted, installed lights & ceiling fans,
rehung doors & gates to close securely and performed
general handyperson work. This much-needed TLC, and
their donation towards maintenance supplies, continue to
make our residences beautiful homes.
CREW (California Real Estate Women)
Not only did CREW gift the League at Christmas, and at our
BBH Event, they once again remembered the League during
their annual golf tournament. The $3,500 in proceeds from
the tournament went to help support our programs.
