Pandit Janardan Mitta attained the excellence of a consummate, elegant artist that he is today, under the
tutelage of the renowned Sitar maestro Pandit Ravishankar of the Maihar gharana. Having mastered the nuances of the Gayaki and Tantrakari techniques of instrumental music, Pt. Janardan Mitta has traveled widely
across the country and abroad holding the interest of audiences with his inimitably delicate style. Having
been the first Hindustani musician to have performed at the Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival at Tiruvaiyyaru
in 1976, he was also awarded the title “Asthana Vidwan” of Sri Sarada Peetham, Sringeri. A graduate
in Music, a post graduate in Sociology and a Doctorate scholar in Musicology, he has been one of the few
distinguished musicians to have performed at the United Nations in 1971.
Ms. Rimpa Siva: Born to a family of music-lovers in Calcutta on 14th January 1986, toddler Rimpa
showed keen interest in playing with Tabla and other Indian musical instruments. She received her first
lessons from her father and Guru Prof. Swapan Siva, himself an acclaimed Tabla player and disciple of late
Ustad Keramatullah Khan of Farukhabad Gharana. At the age of nine, Rimpa earned scholarships from West
Bengal State Music Academy and Salt Lake City music festival in 1995. Her first big public performance at
sprawling Netaji Indoor Stadium in Calcutta on 23rd January 1996, was a huge success. Since, there is no
looking back for her. When she was 14, she first accompanied Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia on a concert
tour to the US and since then she has been playing with musical stalwarts like Pandit Jasraj and Pandit
Ajoy Chakraborty. She was invited to prestigious Sangeet Research Academy and participated in 25th ITC
Sangeet Sammelan in Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Allahabad. Rimpa has also performed at music bastions like
Pune, Bhopal, Lucknow, Bangalore and Maihar of baba Alauddin fame. She also joined the new millennium
celebration organized by the Viswa Banga Sammelan in Calcutta and Zee-TV celebration in Mumbai with
Pandit Hariprasad Chourasia. She has done her M.A. from Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta and is
currently studying for a Ph.D. in musicology.
