May 29, 30 & 31, 2010 - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
We will be hosting a Membership Open House for anyone interested in becoming
a member of Duck Woods Country Club. Events will include a day of scheduled
activities from 9:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. for everyone who would like to learn and experience
what Duck Woods Country Club has to offer to enhance the lives of people wishing
to become members of the country club.
We will be offering opportunities for people to experience all of our amenities; golf,
dining, tennis, fitness, aquatic, our programs and offerings to inform our potential
new members of the lifestyle so many of our members have come to enjoy.
Each day of the Open House will offer complimentary food and beverage and use of
the facilities as well as professional instruction in golf, tennis, fitness and aquatic
areas of interest for those that wish to participate. The staff will provide information
and be available to answer any questions for our potential new members.
We will provide tours and have ambassadors of the club assisting in the informational
process. We will also have a special offer each day of the Open House for those who
sign up for membership.
The best way of getting new members is from our current members, so please let
your friends or family know of our open house.

It has not been a mild winter and from my discussions with
many members that have been on the Outer Banks for thirty
plus years, the consensus is that this past winter ranks in the
top three coldest winters they can remember. The poor winter
conditions bring less participation in golf and dining, with
people not wanting to get out in the cold and play golf or eat
out at night. With the poor weather and with the state of the
economy on a national and local level, our revenue from
January through February has dropped approximately 15.5%
from anticipated conservative levels forecasted. With our
continued analyization of our financials and forecasting of
anticipated future revenue, we have been able to continue our
solid financial position. We managed to cut approximately 30%
in club expenses in that same time period, to meet the revenue
shortfall and anticipated revenue decline we are forecasting.
Due to our displined approach to business over the past few
years, we have continued to save funds to purchase items to
enhance the property. This year we will be installing a new state
of the art pool filter system for a cleaner environment for those
utilizing our pool this season. We have also had to upgrade our
computer network. This included a new network server and the
proper configuration of all network functions for an efficient
and secure work environment. We wish to thank Mr. Walters for
his expertise and assistance in this process. As a management
team, our direction is to raise revenue and maintain expenses
in order to maintain and enhance products and services and to
provide a productive and rewarding work environment for
the staff. We are continuing to be innovative in developing
opportunities for the membership to participate and to interest
others that are not members to become members of the club.
This process includes you, our current membership to bring in
their family and friends to participate and to bring people into
the club to become members. We will do anything we can to
make you proud of your club and deliver on our commitment
to your personalized customer service, quality products,
amenities, programs and offerings to enhance the lives of all
who participate, but we need your assistance. The Membership
Committee has been working hard to create and develop
membership opportunities for retaining and cultivating new
members, please participate when you can, we would greatly
appreciate your assistance.

Proposed Amendments to the
Duck Woods Country Club Bylaws:
Any member who sponsors a new Full or Full Golfing member
will be eligible for a THREE MONTH DUES CREDIT. This credit
may be taken once the new member has been a member in
good standing for six months (food minimums and debt
service fees are still payable). Three months of free dues simply
for helping us build up our membership by selling the benefits
and amenities of the Club you know and love to people you
know would enjoy being a member!
And this is a win-win for your new member, too! They will be
eligible for a $500 credit towards the discounted initiation fee
($3,000) applicable either when they pay their initiation fee in
full or at the time of their final payment.
Please tell a neighbor who’s been thinking about joining Duck
Woods, your best friend who finally moved to the Beach or that
golfing buddy you’d like to see (and play with!) more often. When
they hand the letter in with their completed membership
application it will start the process to ensure that you get your
recruitment reward - a three month dues vacation! - and they
will save $500 off their initiation fee!

We would like to thank all the members that participated
in their suggestions for “Signature Dish” at Duck Woods
Country Club. We had over 100 members respond with
suggestions concerning the “Signature Dishes” and we
appreciate everyone’s participation. Thank you.

Amend Section 2-1.1 by adding the following language:
(e) Social: Such members are entitled to use swimming,
dining and club house facilities. Social members that join
or reclassify after May 1, 2010 shall not be entitled to vote.
There shall be no change in voting rights for existing Social
members so classified prior to May 1, 2010.
Amend Section 2-1.2(b) by changing “thirty-five (35)” to
“forty (40)”.
The above amendments to the Bylaws have been proposed by
the Board of Directors at their March meeting. The proposal
shall be voted on by the Board at its meeting on May 19,
2010. The proposal shall be enacted by a unanimous vote of
the Board of Directors. In the event the proposal is approved
by a 2/3 or greater majority of the Board but not unanimously,
the proposal shall be presented to the membership and
shall be enacted by a 2/3 or greater majority of the members
voting in person or by absentee ballot.

Hello from the Tennis Shop. The weather is getting warm and
the courts are getting busy, please call the shop to make sure
you have a court. With the season getting if full gear please
remember to sign in at the desk to help us better keep track of
court usage to better serve our membership. Our leagues will
be back from the indoors, if you would like to get on one of the
leagues, please give me a call at the shop. We will be having our
Tennis Kick-Off Party on April 23rd to get the season going, it
will start at 6:00pm until... We will be playing doubles, mixed,
and games for prizes. We will have food and a cash bar for all to
enjoy. If you need more information or would like to sign up,
please call the shop. All clinics are still going on. If you would
like to get involved, please call Tony and he will get you in the
right clinic. We still need more e-mails for our tennis database.
If you are not getting e-mails from the tennis shop, please
e-mail us and we will get you in the data base. Look forward to
seeing you on the courts!
Each quarter we will be introducing you to one of our Staff
Members at Duck Woods Country Club. We thought this
would be a great way for our members and their guests to
get to know the wonderful Staff we have here at the Club!
This quarter we have chosen Tony Willingham our USTPA,
Director of Tennis.
Tony Willingham is the Director of Tennis and has over 18
years experience as a USTPA professional. He is currently
a USPTA P-1 classification and has served as a USPTA Official.
Tony played #1 Doubles and #2 Singles for the US Air Force
Tennis Team. Tony has coached all ages and has developed
an active instructional program. Tony has coached twelve
women’s and five men’s district winning USTA teams along
with two national women’s winning teams. Tony and his
family have lived on the Outer Banks since 2007.

Tip of the Month: Take Your Time
Rhythm, balance, coordination and timing are better when
you wait for the ball. Take your time; don’t rush. On ground
strokes you can count silently to five. Starting exactly at the
bounce, quickly count one, two, three, four then sometimes
a little pause, and five when you hit, finishing all the way.
Take your time. That is the best way to play.

Ladies,
A great time was had by all at our first quarterly meeting, March 4.
We enjoyed tennis at Pine Island and a pot luck. Our next meeting
will be at 6:00 Thursday, June 3 at the courts, followed by round
robin play and off the menu dinner at the Bistro for all interested.

We hope all of you enjoy the spring weather and look forward to
a successful golf season in 2010. In February, we had two hole-inones. Congratulations to Richard Sulik who made a hole-in-one
on hole #8 with a 4-hybrid from 138 yards.Two days later, Jack Brady
made a hole-in-one on hole #3 with a 6-iron from 171 yards.
Visit the golf shop to see new merchandise for men and ladies.
Please let us know if you have special requests. We will special
order an item you may have seen. Make sure to sign up to play
in the upcoming golf events. Beginning in April, we will offer
both men’s and ladies golf clinic.

Professionals provide free 15-minute equipment fitting sessions
to help golfers, regardless of skill level, trade in obsolete clubs
for new equipment by determining their proper fit. Players
who are fit by a PGA or LPGA Professional are able to drive the
ball straighter and longer; hit all shots more accurately; have
noticeably better distance control; and shave strokes with better

MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATRE
MURDER AT CASTLE MOLDYVIA - THE SEQUEL
The merry band of actors in the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre are
pictured looking quite sedate - considering they are planning murder
and mayhem at the castle where there are two - are there three - hidden
treasures. Join the fun as they scramble to outdo each other - pirates,
clowns, an aristocratic Italian count, a Bishop, a Red Hot Mama and a
shady lady. For an evening of pure fun, come and see them perform
for your entertainment!
Samantha Spade (left) questions the guilty looking actors in the cast
of “Murder at Castle Moldyvia - the Sequel” - a murder mystery dinner
theatre to be presented at Duck Woods Country Club on Friday, May
7th and Saturday May 8th at 7:00 p.m. Come and enjoy a gourmet
meal plus singing, dancing and high humor in this production. Watch
your friends playing the characters in the play. Tickets will be available
at the Duck Woods office on April 5th and from the cast members, the
price for the tickets will be $30 each.

The 2010 season for the DWLGA got off to a beautiful start at its
first Quarterly meeting, March 9. By the second hole most of us
were shedding our jackets and ear muffs because of the glorious
sun and spring like temperature. We all decided that we would
make pretty good weather predictors. Even though some of our
snow birds have not returned to the Outer Banks we had a good
turnout of seven teams and even more came for lunch.
All lady golfers at DWCC are invited and encouraged to join the
DWLGA and participate in the tournaments and games on
Tuesday. Membership forms and sign-up sheets for Tuesday
play are in the Ladies Locker Room.
The winning teams enjoyed sharing in the increase prize
payout money for the Quarterly meetings. Gigi Hagenah, 18 hole
tournament chair and Carol Butscher, 9 hole tournament chair
both presented the schedule of games for the season. Included
in the schedules are some old favorites and some new twists
and games. We are also venturing into a Match Play tournament
under the leadership of Carnell Boyle. Keep tuned for further
developments.
We still have available spots for bag and pull cart storage,
if interested, please contact the Golf Shop at 252-261-2609.

I can offer personal training on an individual or 2 person session

training will be 5 sessions for $200 or 10 sessions for $350 which is

An hour long class with guided instruction to lead you as you flow
between movements that are synchronized with your breath. The class
will consist of deep stretches, Sun Salutation series yoga postures and
breathing practices while finishing with deep relaxation. This class is
intended for beginners with some athletic experience. Modifications
will be offered depending on your level of flexibility. Please wear
comfortable non-restricting clothes and bring a water bottle and yoga
mat, if you have one. Everyone is welcome; come challenge yourself
and improve your flexibility, strength and well-being.

Men’s Pilates/Yoga for Golf & Fitness classes will focus on strength and
flexibility, developing core strength, improving posture and alignment,
creating stability. Chair, standing and mat exercises will be incorporated
at each class. Some classes will include an introduction to the state of
the art Golf Stretching Machine in the fitness center. We will coordinate
with Gina in the golf operation.
EQUIPMENT: MAT OR BEACH TOWEL
Session 1 classes are for all fitness levels, and also a good class for anyone
who would like to enjoy the benefits of yoga and pilates but may have
difficulty getting up and down on a mat. Chair, stability/fitness ball
and standing exercises are incorporated throughout our practice.
EQUIPMENT: A LARGE STABILITY/FITNESS BALL
Session 2 classes will be completely different from Session 1 and is for
anyone who wishes to experience traditional mat and standing poses
in both Yoga and Pilates. We will also incorporate light weights, blocks
and a band or strap.
EQUIPMENT: MAT / OPTIONAL: 1 OR 2 POUND WEIGHTS, PAIR OF
YOGA BLOCKS & A YOGA STRAP OR A STRETCHY FITNESS BAND
Combine Session 1 and 2 for a full hour class.

The Duck Woods Ladies Golf Association
is in full swing with play occurring each
Tuesday for nine and 18 hole play. Dues
for the year are $40 and all ladies in the

The Open Bridge group will continue to
play at DWCC each Wednesday at 10:30
