Dear Warrior Parents, - Olentangy Local School District
Dear Warrior Parents,
As the opening of a new school year approaches, I am excited to serve as the
principal of OLMS and take great pride in welcoming you and your child to
Olentangy Liberty Middle School, “Home of the Warriors”!
Liberty Middle School is an extraordinary school filled with many opportunities for
students to extend their academic learning and to embrace new experiences. We
encourage all students and families to take advantage of the tremendous
opportunities available at Liberty Middle School. Please be sure to read through the
‘Sports and Clubs’ brochure in the ‘Back-To-School’ packet to view all of the extracurricular options available to our students.
Let me assure you that most students and parents are tentative about the transition
to middle school; however, I am confident you and your child will find this a positive
and exciting change. If there are ever any questions or concerns during this time,
please do not hesitate to ask any staff member to help. We take great pride in
actively communicating with our learning community and encourage everyone to
read the ‘Stay Connected’ information, which is also included in the ‘Back-ToSchool’ packet. We are all excited to develop a partnership with you to make your
child comfortable and ready to learn at Liberty Middle School.
An important step you need to take is to read through this entire letter, as it
contains a wealth of information that will help make the transition to a new
school and a new school year a bit easier!

Sixth Grade Orientation
All 6th grade students are encouraged to attend the orientation program,
WEB (Where Everybody Belongs), on Wednesday, August 10th from 9:00
a.m. - 12:00 p.m. School pictures will take place between 12:00 p.m. - 2:00
p.m. as well on this day. Your 6th grader should meet in the cafeteria by 9:00
a.m. Please do not worry if for some reason your child is unable to attend
this orientation; our administrators and school counselors are available and
are more than willing to share any information that they will miss at a time
that is convenient for you and your child. On this day, parents are invited to
attend a ‘meet and greet’ session with the OLMS administration from 9:0010:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be served; this event is sponsored by our
OLMS PTO.

Six Grade Student Schedules
Sixth grade students will receive a hard copy of their schedule during the
WEB orientation program. Attached to students’ schedules, parents will
find information on how to access our online student information system,
PowerSchool. Included in this information you will find your personal ID
and passwords that you will need to access this system for the first time. A
staff member will direct students who cannot attend the WEB orientation
program to their first period class on opening day of school; students will be
given a hard copy of their schedule and their PowerSchool login
information at that time.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Student Schedules
Picture day will be on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Students’ schedules can be viewed online with your parent login to
PowerSchool. PowerSchool can be accessed from the OLMS web page at
www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/Liberty, under ‘For Parents’, then ‘Parent
Resources’. If you do not have a PowerSchool password, please call our
OLMS secretary, Nancy Fenneman, at 740-657-4405 and she will be happy to
assist you. Student schedules will also be available for online viewing and
printing after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

Student Pictures
Picture forms will be mailed to your home address from HR Imaging. All
student pictures will be taken at OLMS and the schedule is as follows:
6th Grade:
7th and 8th Grade:
Make-Up Picture Day:

Wednesday, August 10th from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Friday, August 12th from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, August 18th during school hours
School Supplies
If you pre-ordered your school supply kits from our PTO, they will be
available for pick up in the OLMS Library during the following days/times:
Wednesday, August 10th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Friday, August 12th from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
For those of you returning to OLMS, please note that the PTO will not set up a
school supply store as they have done in years past. The deadline for
ordering school supply kits was June 10, 2016. As previously
communicated on the order form, these kits serve as the basic supplies;
many teachers may ask for specific supplies for their classes, which will be
communicated once school begins.

School Forms
The district is making every effort to reduce expenses. Therefore, to reduce
our mailing costs, we have electronically provided all of the forms that
should be filled out and turned in the first day of school to your child’s first
period teacher. The forms of most importance are the Emergency Medical
Form and the Health Update Form. Please note these forms need to be filled
out every year. We thank you in advance for your understanding and
cooperation.
School Fees
 Any past due school fees are available for online payment through the
parent PowerSchool account, which can be accessed through the
district website.
 This year’s school fees will be payable through PowerSchool by the
first week of September 2016.
Please note the following District Policy:
Students with carryover delinquent fees of any kind from the previous school
year will preclude the student from participating in fall, winter and spring
extra-curricular activities. Eligibility will be restored once all fees have been
paid, or a payment plan has been established and the first payment has been
received.
Student fees charged for a COURSE OF INSTRUCTION shall be waived for any
student on free and reduced lunch pursuant to Board Policy 6152.01. Students
are eligible for this waiver if they have been approved for free or reduced lunch
upon filling out the ‘Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application’, and on
that application, the parent signs off on the section giving permission to share
that information with school officials. If the parent did not initially sign off
giving that permission but would like the fee waiver, an additional form entitled
‘Sharing Information with Other Programs’ can be filled out and forwarded to
the Food Service Department to check for eligibility. Fees for extra-curricular
activities or other pupil enrichment programs are not to be waived.
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 17, 2016 and classes will begin at
8:05 a.m. Students will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m.
Please mark the following important dates on your calendar:
 Curriculum Night – August 31, 2016 @ 6:30 p.m.
 Labor Day (No School for Students or Staff)- Monday, September 5, 2016
 Professional Development Day (No School for Students)–September 19, 2016
Again, I want to extend a sincere ‘welcome’ to Olentangy Liberty Middle School. It is
a pleasure to have you as a member of the Warrior family. If you ever have concerns
or questions, please stop in and see me personally, give me a call or send me an email at: [email protected]. I am always happy to help in anyway that I can to
ensure the utmost positive educational experience for you and your child. I am truly
looking forward to getting to know every child in our building as well as their
families.
Best wishes for a successful 2016-17 school year!
GO WARRIORS!

what is being offered each day. Alternative menu options are available for students with
medically documented food allergies or other special dietary needs.

may qualify, you may apply at any time. Applications can be filled out online at

Stay Connected to Liberty Middle School
At Liberty Middle School we pride ourselves in actively partnering with our learning community by providing upto-date and frequent communication of important school information. Below are some of the ways that your
building Principal, Mrs. Nancy Freese, will be communicating with you.
1. Life at Liberty List Serve: Subscribe to the Life at Liberty daily announcements by going to the OLMS
website, www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/Liberty, and scroll down to sign up under the ‘e-News sign up’ section..
The following page will appear indicating you have subscribed and will be receiving an Email confirmation
requesting that you confirm your subscription. Daily announcements include: (1) ‘Words of Wisdom’; (2)
‘Liberty Line-Up’ (athletic schedule and announcements); (3) club and activity announcements, upcoming
events, and more.
2. Remind: Remind is a text messaging system that allows you to receive up to date information in the event
of a school delay and/or closing, bus delays, etc. Text @lmsparen to (740)-513-4329 to sign up to receive
text alerts from Principal, Nancy Freese. Please note that this system only allows a certain number of
characters within these texts, so these will be very short messages to your electronic devices.
3. Twitter:
Twitter will be used for sporting and extra-curricular announcements, i.e. concerts, game updates,
Washington DC trip updates and more! Please know that OLMS will follow the secure measures set within
the district for posting photos. For parents who have opted for their child’s photo NOT to be able to be
used within any social media, strict guidelines will be adhered to ensure this request is being met.
To be able to receive these notifications, please follow Mrs. Freese on Twitter: @OLMSPrincipal
4. One Call Now:
This is a phone message system that will send a voice mail directly to your chosen landline or cellular
device(s). This information is automatically set up each year from our Communications Department. If you
have had a change to any of your contact numbers and/or would like to remove any contact numbers in
which you may be receiving messages, please contact our main office at 740-657-4400 and we will update
your contact information.

following information: (1) Student Grade History (real time viewing of academic progress); (2) Attendance
Records/Student Schedules; (3) School Report Cards; (4) Gifted WEPs; (5) School & Lunch Fees; (6)
Transportation Details and more. PowerSchool link can be found on the OLMS home page; Access ‘FOR

contains Cloud Service for teachers to create and post course content as well as calendars that can
synchronize with other web-based calendars such as Microsoft Outlook or Google Calendar. The following
are some ways our teachers use Schoology: (1) Student Courses; (2) Class Materials; (3) Course Calendar;
(4) Online assignments and submissions; (5) Homework; (6) Instructional Tutorials and (7) Notifications
and messages. Schoology link can be found on the OLMS home page; Access ‘FOR PARENTS’ then
‘PARENT RESOURCES’.
