The Rashi School, the Boston Area Reform Jewish
K-8 Independent School, combines outstanding
academics and joyful learning, centered on our core
values of Ruach (Spirit), Kavod (Respect), Kehillah
(Community), Tzedek (Justice), and Limud (Learning).
Now in our 28th year — our 5th in our spectacular
new building on a 162-acre wooded campus — the
school attracts students from Boston, Brookline,
Newton, Needham, Natick, Wellesley and a dozen
other communities. Our 332 students benefit from
a warm, academically challenging, and values-rich
environment.
KNOWING EACH CHILD
Any parent with more than one child knows that
each one is an individual with his or her own talents,
passions, motivations, and interests. At Rashi, we take
the time to know and understand each child and to
ensure that all students are fully engaged in learning,
passionate about their work, and challenged to their
potential. We maintain a student/teacher ratio of
between 8:1 to 11:1 in our lower school classrooms.
A GREAT TEACHER,
EVERY YEAR
Every child at Rashi feels that he or she has the
‘best teacher ever.’ Rashi faculty view teaching as a
calling, and they work to continuously improve their
craft through classroom observations, professional
development and peer feedback. Everyone in our
community is an enthusiastic learner.
CUTTING-EDGE TEACHING
The world is becoming more interconnected,
demanding more collaboration, more innovation,
and more teamwork than ever. A Rashi education
is forward-thinking, keeping pace with innovations
in research and practice about how children learn,
and emphasizing the skills students will need to be
successful in the world they are inheriting.
RASHI STUDENTS LEARN TO:
Innovate and create. Students are encouraged to
demonstrate knowledge in various ways, from
writing to performing to creating a video or building
a website.
Think critically. Students analyze text from Torah to
Shakespeare, and learn to support their thinking and
consider alternate points of view.
Collaborate and problem–solve. Our Social Thinking
curriculum teaches how to work in groups, providing
guidance on listening to others, identifying one’s own
strengths and weaknesses, and problem-solving.
Take risks and learn from failure. Students are
encouraged to embrace challenges and to develop
resilience and strength of character.
Communicate clearly and powerfully. Through
persuasive writing, debate, oral presentations,
performing on the stage, and acting as classroom
ambassadors, students develop self-confidence and
essential communications skills.
RASHI OPENS DOORS
Our graduates thrive in the most challenging secondary
schools, whether independent or public. Wherever they
go from here, they arrive as accomplished, motivated,
confident, self-aware learners eager to take on leadership
roles both in school and in their communities.

TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS
STUDENTS’ MINDS
Anchored in established theory on how children learn
best, Rashi’s online learning environment uses the
power of social and digital media to connect students,
teachers, and families. Utilizing Moodle and Google
Apps for Education, we offer a mix of digital media
resources and collaborative tools for teachers to post
articles, videos, and interactive assignments. Students
acquire, organize, evaluate, and present information
using state-of-the-art digital tools in secure, on-line
class forums for discussion and collaboration.
Every discipline and every grade at Rashi benefits
from the use of instructional technology. These same
tools make possible the range of independent study
for which Rashi is famous:
• Promethean ActivBoards in every classroom
• MacBooks and iPads in the classroom
• STEM programming featuring robotics,
engineering design and computer programming in
every grade.
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
Rashi’s new LEED-certified building includes a
regulation-size gym, music and art studios, science lab,
a stunning auditorium, a light-filled dining room, and a
beautiful library with state-of-the-art electronic tools
accessible to students. The 162-acre wooded campus
encompasses two playgrounds, sports fields, nature
trails, and a stretch of the Charles River.

A COMMITMENT TO THE ARTS
The Rashi community is deeply committed to a broad
curriculum that includes art, music, and theatre. At
Rashi, artistic opportunities abound. Fifth graders
compose and perform an original opera. Middle
School students study with Shakespeare & Co. as
artists-in-residence. Fourth graders make stop-motion
animated videos. It is through artistic endeavors that
children learn about different sides of themselves and
discover their passions.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Our eighth graders who apply to independent schools
fare very well in the admissions process. Admissions
officers tell us that Rashi students arrive well-prepared,
present themselves well, know themselves as learners,
are intellectually curious, and welcome additions to
their community. Of the Rashi students who applied
to independent secondary school for the 2014-2015
school year:
• 90% were admitted to their first choice school
• 74% were admitted everywhere they applied
