Spring Greetings from the President,
Due to the late date of this newsletter, please continue to call in your luncheon reservation, although the deadline is Saturday, April 16th.
Our March luncheon was very informative and probably one of our best ever. Karen Watson
spoke on how to acquire more Black voters into the Republican Party. She was an inspiration to all
of us in attendance.
Our Palm Springs Republican Women Federated Membership Party, April 2, was a great success! It was an entertaining event and the weather was perfect and the offer of the Manske home
was more than generous.
We all enjoyed seeing and hearing from Mary Bono again, as so many of us helped in her elections. It was a pleasure to meet Stephen Oswald, Mary’s husband, and hear of his Astronaut experiences. It is always an honor to have Nam Young Horn attend any of our events. Andy Cahan,
from the Turtles, played beautiful music, as we gathered around the pool.
The Silent Auction items contained a variety of fabulous “winnings.” A big thank you to Carol
Trousdell for collecting all the abundant and grand items.
Elise had a boundless team of workers who included Sylvia Crawford, Betty Donnelly, Cena Rasmussen, Dawn Jonker, Margo Rana. Bob Richmond and Kevin Jonker were the bartenders.
Val Ogburn, was presented with a Palm Spring Republican Women Federated Pin, which was
made into a necklace. She was also given a memento gift of an album of pictures of her tenure with
the club made by Nancy Single. We are saying goodbye to a brilliant worker for our club. Val will
be missed terribly.
Finally, I must give special thanks to Elise Richmond, who headed up this wonderful event. Great
job Elise!!!

SHIRLEY HAMMER
Shirley Hammer died last week and her funeral was on Friday, April 15th. Shirley
was Past President in 1982 and again in 1984 & 1985. If any of her old friends wish
to write to the family her address is in the directory. We usually do not mention particular members, but Shirley was such a long-time enthusiastic member and friend of
our Club, we wanted to indicate her great loss to us.
