Summer, it turns me upside down
Summer, Summer, Summer
It’s like a Merry go-round
I just have to quote the old Cars tune, Magic, because this
summer has been a whirlwind of events at CIYC. We started July with a Grand 4th of July BBQ, many people attendSecretary
Larry Kuga
ed. Visitor’s Weekend was a smashing success with Visitors
from Umatilla, Spokane, and Richland Yacht Clubs. The
Entertainment
Jim Sarpolus
Cabana party on D dock, was a hit, complete with drinks
Building and
Jolene Grimes served from a cement mixer and Ice cream for the young
Grounds
and young at heart! We served 175 people for dinner on
Saturday night and many people attended the Sunday mornDocks
Roy Jeffrey
ing breakfast. Boat races came the very next weekend, some
decided to take it easy (some not so easy, Roy!) and cruise to

the Mudhole. Several of our members volunteered to take the air show pilots for a cruise.
Commodore
Scott, the airshow coordinator mentioned that the extra bonus of being able to have the
pilots take a river cruise is one thing that enables the Tri-Cities to attract great airshow talent!, thanks to all the volunteers. I was lucky enough to get a ride in one of the acrobatic planes, flown by Will Allen of
www.WillAllenAirShows.com. He turned me upside down, sideways and every other way. What a ride, thanks Will!! Pizza
Pig Out is going to be hard to top! The Pizza from Round Table Pizza was great as always, the band Voodoo Alley came in
to the center of the boat circle and played several sets. Larry Kuga was filming a music video for them, thanks for the entertainment guys! Unfortunately the MudHold/Fintucky cruise was a bust, due to weather, we had a good time around the club
and docks and some saw the most amazing lightning storm from the great viewing on the north side of the island.
The cruise to Lyon’s Ferry is coming up on Labor day, it will be a very fun event, please sign up early so that we know how
many are going to be cruising. Some boats are leaving on Thursday to make a long weekend of it.
I have mentioned this item every month because it is very important. I have some new info for this month, so read on. After
a long effort, we received our shoreline permit for boathouse rebuilding/modification. It took a really long time and a LOT
of hard work to get it. If you have a plan to work on your boathouse, get it done under this permit. It has been harder and
harder to get the permits over the last few years. We worked with the City of Kennewick and they have extended the permit
due to the time that it took the Corp of Engineers to approve the permit. Our existing permit will be good until next year
and then we will be able to request an extension to the permit for the extra year. This gives us another year that we did not
know that we would be able to get. If you have any questions about rebuilding/remodeling please see me.
Happy Boating
Greg Hammer
Members are responsible for security around the club, if you see anyone you don’t recognize, introduce yourself and find out who they are. Do not loan out your keys to anyone, guests are allowed on the docks only
when you are present, you are responsible for your guests.

Past Events:
July 4, 2013….. 4th of July –Luau, Hosted by Bunn and Hammer
A tremendously successful job by the hosts and a super turn out of our members and their guests!!!!
The Bunns and Hammers put together plenty to feed the record turnout.
Thanks to all those that helped the Bunns and Hammers set up and clean up too.
July 19-20, 2013….. Visitor’s Weekend, Hosted by the Board …Lots of hard work paid off big time!
A SUPER success story here again this year!!! Another record turn out from members and guests!! We had boats
up from Umatilla Yacht Club, Richland Yacht Club as well as from the Port next door.
We even had guests down from the Spokane Yacht Club as well as a lot of local guests attending.
--Thanks to Friday night’s cooks on the grill, Dan Bunn and Jimbo Sedgwick, and thanks to those that helped Anne
Sarpolus with the clean up too.
--Thanks to Roy and Lisa Jeffrey for preparing Saturday lunch for all those hungry folks coming in for the boat and
boat house christenings and the D Dock Cabana Party.
--Thanks to Jolene and Mike Grimes for organizing the D Dock Cabana Party and to all the “Executive Condo members” and “boat house members” on D dock who did a bang up job again this year with decorations, entertainment and plenty of yummy assortments of tasty drinks and munchies.
--Saturday night BBQ dinner was another record turnout organized by Dan and Kathie Bunn
--Thanks to Larry and Julia and Steve and Jeannie for keeping all the cold beverages flowing.
--Ending up the fun and event filled weekend was a grand Sunday morning breakfast organized by Greg and Suzie
Hammer. Thanks again to all for a wonderful week end.
July 27-28, 2013… Boat Race Weekend…This turned out to be another beautiful week end on the river.
August 3, 2013…. Pizza Pig-out, Hosted by Bunn/Hammer/Kuga
All we can say is “WHAT A PARTY”!!!
---With super coordination and cooperation from all those attending, Larry Kuga and his henchmen, Mike and
Roy to name a couple, managed to get a record number of 37 boats lined up and in place for the surprise event of
the day…as a house boat slid into the circle with the band playing on the roof.
A most beautiful day on the water and all the kids and adults alike had a blast all day long and into the night!!!!
---Thanks to Kathie and Suzie for taking all the orders and delivering the yummy assortment of Round Table pizzas
from the menu.
Thanks again to all our Hosts and their committees on these events!! Their efforts and the club participation is what
make our outings a wonderful success. (It can’t be done without you!)
