TRUST IN THE LORD

015 is shaping up to be an exciting year for many reasons.
The reemergence of Russia as a global aggressor, the expansion
of the Islamic State (IS), the rapid development of advanced
robotic weapon systems, the awakening of Asia, the increased
isolation of Israel, the fragmentation of the European Union, the
global economic crisis, and the growing police-style state in the USA
all add ingredients into the caldron of global confusion. The huge
amount of potential hot-spots around the world makes it difficult to
predict where or when the next outbreak of woe will occur.
During a time of impending trouble and uncertainty in Israel,
the prophet Isaiah gave these reassuring words:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You,
because he trusts in You.”
Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
We would do well to remember that, although we may not know
the future, we can know with certainty the One who holds the future.
May the God of heaven and earth guide you into the “perfect peace”
that passes all understanding, which can be found in a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord.

As we explore the classic literature regarding
the “art” of warfare, we, of course, encounter Sun
Tzu, Clausewitz, Richardson, Herman Kahn, et al.
The history of man has included the essential skills
to defend himself, his country, community, and
family. It is impressive to realize how the continued
regard of the classical literature continues to
influence the most modern strategies.

However, as the technology has increased, so
has the scale of violence. It was the economies of scale that created the
nation-state with the advent of gunpowder, etc. This has escalated to
the point where the 20th century was the bloodiest century in history.
Jesus warned us:
“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh
be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”
Matt 24:22 KJV
Did you realize that this is a “technology” statement?
(This would make no sense if we were studying this during the
Civil War in 1860. We can’t visualize mankind destroying itself with
muskets and bayonets.) Did the requisite technology exist prior to
our present nuclear age? Today, the nuclear cloud hangs over every
geopolitical decision on the Planet Earth.

Robot-Wars
The resources already available today are astonishing in their
impact on current warfare. Today there are hundreds of unmanned
drones conducting warfare in Afghanistan, yet being controlled
remotely from Virginia or Florida. These unmanned “Predators”
can gather surveillance, identify targets, and deliver deadly missiles
thousands of miles away from the pilots controlling them in the
comfort of the armchairs.

EMP: the Great Equalizer
As our global society grows increasingly dependent on electronic
communication, another spectre raises its terrifying threat: the
electromagnetic pulse (“EMP”).
We have always known that Israel can be viewed as a “one bomb
target”: a single thermonuclear warhead could end it totally.
What comes as a shocking surprise is that even the United States
can be now viewed as a “one bomb target”: one nuclear warhead,
detonated at sufficient altitude, could return the entire country
back to the 19th century. The resulting EMP effects could disable
telecommunications, power, and the other supporting logistics of
the major metropolitan centers permanently! The EMP Commissions
have estimated that within 12 months of a nationwide blackout, up
to 90% of the U.S. population could possibly perish from starvation,
disease and societal breakdown.

If you haven’t read the reports of the vulnerability of the U.S.
to an EMP attack, you should review the readily available reports.2
The alarms are clear and unequivocal. The resulting responses
have been negligible. Some would describe this as the reckless
endangerment of the entire population.
And nuclear techniques are not the only threat. There is
suggestive evidence that there are alternative means to exploit the
EMP possibilities.
In our currently featured review of the “Second Horseman” of the
fabled “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” we explore these topics
and focus on the principal battles that are predicted in the Bible itself.
It is surprising to recognize the technologies that are detailed in this
review. Even some of the classic engagements take on an entirely new
perspective when viewed carefully in the light of current technologies.
The Safest Place?
The many hazards and threats to ourselves and our families are
truly formidable. Many continue to ask, where is the safest place
to be?
Are you “saved”? That’s the first and most critical question to
answer. The second is also critical: have you discovered your calling?
The safest place to be is in the center of His will for your life.
Then little else matters.
There is a remarkable quote attributed to Mark Twain:
“The two most important days in a person’s life are the day he is born,
and the day he discovers why.”
What has God called you to do? Without Him you can’t.
Without you, He won’t.

The final world dictator seeking global domination will also be an
“Assyrian” who is here characterized by a bow, riding a white horse. It is

The Mystery of the Mind
With all of the awe and wonder surrounding
the physical marvels that allow our existence,
the one aspect of man that intrigues me the most
is the mind of man. The mind is more than our
brain. Although our actions are primarily
controlled by our brain, there is more to the brain
than just orchestrating functions in our body.
It is the centre of our intellect; it produces the
view of the world we see through our mind’s eye.
It has been said that the brain is like a committee of experts sitting
in a windowless room. The brain generally operates on 3 levels:

The subconscious mind offers automatic control over various
functions. This is the “hard-wired” part of our brain. It works with
the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) which controls the automatic

functions like heart rate, digestion, respiration rate, salivation,
and perspiration, maintaining homeostasis in the body, etc.
The unconscious mind is responsible for issuing the pre-planned
actions of the body. It manages over 90% of our everyday functions.

than our conscious mind. It has its memory only partially imprinted
by our conscious mind through cognitive processing and practice.

where we will focus and contemplate
while the unconscious mind
takes care of everything else.
Our conscious mind is fed by our
sensory devices (which can be
fooled), our memory (which can
be flawed), and/or our imagination
(which can be inventive). These perceptions form the building blocks
of the world we navigate through this giant construct we call reality.

of God.”3 To clearly identify and avoid deception we need to sharpen
our perception. We literally need to teach our mind how to focus
on the things that really matter. Jesus illustrated this by saying,
“The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good,
your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your
body also is full of darkness.”4
The Gatekeeper
The mind is the gatekeeper of the heart which is the repository of
our deepest held devotion. In fact, the Bible tells us that we should

Experts in the field of human perception tell us that the only
place we appear to cognitively operate is where we consciously
place our attention. The cognitive mind is the watchtower of our
unconscious memory storage. Everything else (our automatic brain
reactions) guide us through the daily tasks of living. We naturally
suppress information we determine is unnecessary. The more familiar
we are with our environment, the more our conscious mind can focus
on new information. Our cognitive mind can only address 4-5 pieces
of information at any
one moment. Notice

small bursts of input.

that we could almost drown in the sea of multimedia opportunities
that surround us every day. The media moguls know this and want
to draw your attention to what they have to sell. The question is,
how perceptive are we?
Information or Illusion?
Attention diversion is the key to illusion. Discerning the
difference between helpful information and harmful illusions is key.
It’s all about managing our perceptions. Attention is like mental
money; be careful how you spend it.
Illusion is caused by what is referred to as “Change Blindness.”

We suffer from a kind
of multiprocessingblindness... This
blindness leaves us
vulnerable to illusion,
misinformation, and
outright deception.
We are all basically “singleprocessors” (one function at a
time) which means that we will
not notice change in the peripheral
areas outside of our prime
focus. We suffer from a kind of
multiprocessing-blindness, or as others call it
“in-attentional blindness.” This blindness leaves us
vulnerable to illusion, misinformation, and outright deception.
Today, what are the major influences in the world that are
constantly trying to gain influence over our heart? What is the
greatest source of input into people’s mind today? The answer is
entertainment. Entertainment has become the opiate of the masses.
From the Coliseum in Rome to the cinemas around the world today,
people seem to crave diversion from rather than connection to real
life. I constantly see people with their faces looking down at their
mobile world rather than looking up to engage the real world they
hardly acknowledge. What is the answer to this troubling trend?
Is there a survival guide for the soul under siege? Please don’t get
me wrong here. I am not advocating that we run and hide in a cave
somewhere. The Bible gives us all of the answers we need to safely
transit the minefield of the modern media onslaught.

O
ver the last 15 years, I’ve had the honor and privilege of ministering
and working with my dear friend, Nancy Missler. Over two
years ago, Nancy received news that radically changed her life.
She has written quite openly and truthfully about the struggles
with cancer, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually, in her
new book “Hope Against Hope”.
As her sister in the Lord and friend, I’ve spent hours in prayer
believing that she would receive miraculous healing and that she
would have no pain. And I do know that God hears my prayers!
Quite honestly, I’d love to see an instant miracle for my dear
friend. That the tumor on her nose and the tumors elsewhere
throughout her body would instantly dissolve. So far--that instant
miracle prayer “of cancer be gone” is not what God has chosen to
do in Nan’s life.
But what I have seen are many daily miracles that have occurred
over and over again—MIRACLES OF PROCESS. As she chooses to
walk daily in God’s faith, hope and love---God reveals Himself, more
and more, to her. The ultimate gift!
I pray that the following article, that Nan wrote
over 10 years ago, will bless and remind you of
God’s supernatural power for all that is going on
in your own personal lives. This year, let us resolve
to seek Him and His Kingdom more than we ever
have, and HE will reveal Himself more and more
as our ultimate gift!

to Him,” “relinquishing our wills and our lives
to Him,” and “putting Him first in everything
we do.” When we love God like this (being open
and cleansed vessels), not only will His Love be
able to come forth from our hearts, but also His
supernatural power.
The source of all power is God. It’s His saving
power, His pardoning power (Matthew 9:6),
His infinite power (Matthew 28:18), His power
over nature (Luke 8:24), and His life-giving power
(John 17:2; John 10:10). “For there is no other
power but of God” (Romans 13:1).

The Ministry of God’s Supernatural Power
How exactly does God’s supernatural power work in a believer?
Before we become believers, God’s Spirit of power works with
us (para), leading and drawing us to Himself (Acts 19:2). We can all
remember how God wooed, courted, and pursued us. We might even
call Him the “Hound of Heaven.”

In response to our personal invitation, God’s Spirit of power
comes in us (en) and indwells us. This is the time He unites our spirit
with His and gives us a brand-new spirit and heart. This is called “the
new birth” or being “born again” or “justification.” This is the time
when Christ implants His eternal Life––His Love, His wisdom, and
His power––in our spirits and hearts, and we become the temple of
the Holy Spirit.

This is also the time that the Spirit is supposed to come upon us
(epi) for the sake of empowering. This is called the “baptism of the
Spirit” or the initial infilling of the Spirit (Acts 1:8). Jesus told His
disciples: “And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you.
But tarry in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from
on high” (Luke 24:49. See also Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:5). The baptism
of the Spirit is God breaking through the soulish and physical realm.
It’s the beginning of our “outer man” (our soul) being subjected to our
“spirit man” (our spirit). It’s God’s power to become a genuine witness
of Christ, not just in our words, but also in our lives.

Without this initial empowering, however, we will be just like
believers who have a “form of godliness,” but who “deny the power
within” (2 Timothy 3:5). In other words, they know the Scriptures in
their heads, but they don’t allow the power of God to come forth and
transform their lives.
(The indwelling and the empowering of the Holy Spirit should
happen at the very same time. But for many of us, because we didn’t
know enough to ask for the empowering, they occurred on two
separate occasions, many years apart.)
After we have been indwelt and empowered by God’s resurrection
power, we must daily be refilled (pleroo) with His Spirit of power from
the inside out. “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what
the will of the Lord is, and be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:17–18).

The verb be filled here means “to be continually filled and
empowered, not allowing the Spirit to be quenched.”
This step differs from the first two steps in that it’s now our
responsibility (our choice) to stay cleansed and sanctified, so we can
be refilled and empowered. This does not happen automatically. It is
God’s will, but it is our choice whether or not we do it.

This last step is the beginning of the process called sanctification.
Having therefore, these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.

Our job is to make the right faith choices. God is the One who
empowers us.
Consequently it’s imperative that we not stop at the first step of
salvation—our justification—but that we go on to the next phase,
which is our sanctification. “If we live in the Spirit [if we are bornagain], [we must learn to] also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25.
See also Ephesians 5:18). It’s the Spirit of Christ’s resurrection power
that not only renews our minds and transforms our lives, but also
enables us to walk by His Spirit.
The Spirit brings us to Christ and gives us His Life, then He
empowers us to reflect Him in all we do. Our job, then, is to stay
cleansed, filled, and empowered.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the
power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side,
yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted,
but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about
in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, [so] that the Life also of Jesus
might be made manifest in our body.
