Retrofit
Description
 Retrofitting refers to the addition of new technology or features to older systems.
(source: Wikipedia)
 Retrofit of switchgears means upgrading of old circuit breakers with up-to-date vacuum
circuit breakers.
 Retrofit has the aim to extend the lifetime of a switchgear with increased availability and
safety while reducing maintenance cost.

Reasons and Benefits of RETROFIT
Reasons to Retrofit switchgears:
• Breakers are beyond expected lifetime
• Existing breaker technology is old (Oil/ SF6 CB)
• Spare parts are difficult to locate, and costly
• CB OEM not existing any more
• Experienced workforce for maintenance not any more available
• Existing switchgear is sufficient dimensioned
• Operational staff is trained and confident with the operation of the existing substation
Customer benefits
• Lower investment than for complete switchgear replacement
• No downtime for upgrading with Retrofit Kit
• Future-oriented, with secured availability of spare parts
• Reliable operation with state-of-the-art vacuum circuit breaker
• Extension of the lifetime of the whole substation
