VIRGINIA’S COMMUNITY COLLEGES
WE ARE CELEBRATING THE PROFOUND
ROLE THAT THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES
WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY IN OUR
COMMONWEALTH’S FUTURE.
50th Anniversary
Dear friends and fellow Virginians:
Virginia’s Community Colleges are celebrating the progress and promise of their first 50 years with a gala whose
proceeds will boost college access and opportunities for years to come. The VCCS was created to address
Virginia’s unmet needs in higher education and workforce training, and it’s accomplishments are profound:
Unprecedented
Access to a College Education
By establishing a statewide comprehensive community college system, Virginia
ensures higher education is within the grasp of every individual in every Virginia community.
More Affordable College Credentials
Virginians have access to the nation’s greatest transfer opportunities. The VCCS holds guaranteed transfer
agreements with more than 30 public and private universities across the Commonwealth and beyond.
Combined with Virginia’s unique Two-Year College Transfer Grant, pursuing a bachelor’s degree has never
been more affordable or accessible.
Building Virginia’s Workforce of Tomorrow
The VCCS is poised to connect more people with high-demand careers thanks to the first-in-the n
 ation
pay for performance workforce credentials plan. Expanding the colleges’ short-term training programs,
and helping more people access and afford them, will boost Virginia’s 21st century competitiveness.
Virginia’s future depends on its ability to prepare individuals for 21st century opportunities. That includes serving
Virginia’s growing population of veterans and military families, as well as our expanding and diverse communities of
new Virginians. Accomplishing that means broadening our coalition, building a team of advocates and supporters,
as well as raising and strategically targeting resources to create college and opportunities for these individuals. We
hope that you will invest generously and that we will see you at the gala!
Sincerely,
Thomas F. Farrell II Chairman
President and Chief Executive Officer, Dominion Resources
P.S. Please note that all funds raised during this campaign are designated toward a scholarship fund and will not
be used for gala expenses.
