PROJECT: CITY GUIDE
CHOJNICE
Welcome to our town – Chojnice!
Chojnice is situated in the north-west of Poland in the Pomerania region about 120 km from
Gdańsk. There are about 40 000 inhabitants living in our town.
We live in Chojnice and we also go to school here. We love
our town because there are a lot of nice people to meet, beautiful
places to see and interesting things to do. It is worth visiting
Chojnice because of the all the tourist attractions and its ideal
location.
Park Tysiąclecia (Millenium Park)
It is called the ”Green Lungs”of Chojnice. It was renovated last year and it is the most beautiful
place in our town. It is near the main street and there are attractions for people in all age. In the
summer you can ride a bike, rollerblade, go fishing in the pond, feed the ducks, sit on the bench
or use the sports equipment in the fresh air.
Rynek i fontanna (The town market and the fountain)
Go to the town market where you can see the amazing fountain and the town hall. Around the
market there are colourful apartment houses and shops. We often eat ice cream on the bench next
to the fountain and feed the pigeons.
Bazylika pod wezwaniem
ci cia
wi tego Jana Chrzciciela
(Basilica of the Decapitation of St. John Baptist)
The church was built between the years 1340 – 1360 from the red
brick in Gothic style. Unfortunately, the church had been robbed
and damaged in the fire many times. On the eleventh of March
1993 the Pope John Paul II named the church the Basilica. It is now
the main center of religious life in Chojnice.
Centrum Handlowe K&M (K&M Shopping Mall)
It is situated in the city center so it is very easy to get there on foot. It has been open since last
year and it is the newest and the biggest gallery in Chojnice. It is open every day and there are a
lot of brand mark boutiques. We love going shopping here because there is a moving stairway
and we enjoy going up and down. We usually do the shopping in K&M with our parents at the
weekends.
Brama Człuchowska i Muzeum Historyczno-Etnograficzne
(Człuchowska Gate and
the History Museum)
The History Museum situated in Człuchowska Gate was opened on the sixth of August 1932.
During the Second World
War the collection was ruined.
In the year 1960 the
museum was opened again this
time in the town hall.
Since May 1962 the museum
has been in Człuchowska
Gate. In the museum there are a
lot of interesting
workshops, meetings, lessons
and competitions for
schools.
