Meigs South kindergarten is working very hard
to learn the letters in the alphabet. In an effort to
encourage community involvement, we have resumed
our special guest program. Someone from the community visits our kindergarten classes at the end of each
week to share their job/hobby that begins with the
correlating letter. We have had a great time learning with
our guests thus far, and we are excited to bring in new
visitors each week. Our visitors this year include:
•
L for the Lemonade Lady, Mrs. Shirley
Jennings. Mrs. Jennings was a lovely guest, teaching
and singing about the letter L. She taught us to create
lemonade from lemons, and we enjoyed her delightful
lemonade.
•
O is for Officer Brent Maddron, our schools
SRO. Officer Brent read a story about being a policeman, answered questions, and let our students tour his
patrol car. He was outstanding.
•
G is for Gardener Pat King. Mrs. King brought
in seeds, tools, and a neat story to teach us how things
grow. Mrs. King was a glorious guest for the letter g.
•
H is for Horse trainer Melissa Allen. Mrs.
Melissa brought her horse Bandit to teach us about the
letter h. She and Bandit preformed many tricks and
answered lots of questions about horses. She was a helpful guest!
•
T is for Tiger Cheerleaders. The MCHS cheerleaders traveled to our school to put on a pep rally for the
letter T. They also brought Trixie the Tiger with them. They were all Terrific!
•
P is for Piggly Wiggly. Mr. Pig
from the Piggly Wiggly visited our
classes and brought popsicles and pig
hats for everyone. Mr. Pig was perfect!
•
A is for Ambulance. Mr. Jake
brought an ambulance to the school for
our students to tour. He taught our
students about being safe and the
special job that ambulance drivers do.
He was amazing.
•
N is for Nurse Missy
Bassham. Nurse Missy is our school
nurse, so most of our students were
familiar with her. She demonstrated the
tools that she uses on a daily basis.
She was a nifty guest.

New Faces at MSE
First and foremost, we would like to say WELCOME BACK to school at Meigs South! Our faculty,
staff and students are geared up and ready to have an
outstanding year learning, meeting goals, and making a
lifetime of memories! We welcome back all returning
students and faculty/staff members, and we would like to
welcome the new students.
We would also like to welcome a few new faces
at Meigs South this year. Miss Kala Gossett has joined
our Kindergarten department, and in the few weeks since
school has started, she has proven to be an amazing asset
to our school. Miss Kala is enthusiastic, energetic, and
loves children.
Miss Casey Eschette has joined our support
staff department. Miss Casey is outgoing, fun, and
everyone loves having her with us. In the guidance
department, we have added Mrs. Dana Sharp. She has
already proven that she works well with students,
teachers, and families.
Finally, we are proud to announce the return of
Officer Brent Maddron as our school SRO. Officer Brent
has worked hard to build a great relationship with our
students and community. He visits classrooms, fills in
anywhere he is needed, and most importantly, he keeps us
safe! We are excited to have these new faces along with
all of the returning employees and students. Let’s make
2015-2016 the best year ever!
Enrichment
Meigs South teachers
and faculty are always looking for
different ways to motivate our
children to become successful,
lifelong learners. This year, we
have an enrichment program
during school hours, and we
have added an after school
enrichment session.
Students participating were
selected based upon outstanding
test scores from the previous
year. During these
enrichment times, boys and girls
are conducting experiments,
researching information,
and participating in a multitude of
hands on projects.
These projects are on
display at various locations in
our school.
Enrichment students Anna Derrick, Mattie Moore, and Grace Looper work on a project
during after school classes.
