POLICY INFORMATION FOR CDRC PROGRAMS
Non-Funding Resident Policy – All programs are rated for residents of funding
municipalities-Town of Shelburne, Town of Mono, Township of Amaranth and
Township of Melancthon. A non-resident is defined as anyone who does not
pay property taxes directly to anyone of the previously mentioned funding municipalities. The programs offered by the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex
are subsidized by municipal taxes. In order to keep the cost as low as possible
for residents, who already contribute to the municipal tax base, a user fee, of
$12.00 per participant, will be added to the registration costs for non-residents.
The CDRC reserves the right to request proof of residency.
Pro-rating of Program Fees – CDRC does NOT pro-rate fees for late registration
of programs.
HST – HST is included in all pricing shown unless specified and is only charged on
programs for youth 14 years of age and older and adults.
NSF Cheques – The CDRC charges an administration fee of $15.00 for each NSF
cheque received.
Waiting Lists – Once a class is filled, registrants will be placed on a waiting list
in the order that the registration is received. It is always recommended to go
on a waiting list as we may expand the class size or create a new time slot to
accommodate wait lists.
Receipts –A receipt will be issued at registration for any CDRC program. If your
receipt is misplaced there will be a cost of $5 for any reprint of tax receipts, per
session/per activity.
Photographs/Video – All program participants MUST have a signed waiver for
photography. Photographic/video equipment (including Personal Digital Assistants and Cellular Phones) are not allowed in changerooms, washrooms or in
program spaces. Taking photos or videos of participants during programs is
not permitted. Participants will be asked for written permission to have photographs taken by the media or Town staff for promotional purposes
Class/Program Postponement/Cancellations – The CDRC may cancel any class/
program that fails to meet minimum registration numbers one week prior to the
start date of the program. Some class/program times may change due to registration numbers. Participants will be offered a full refund or transfer to another
class/program if available. The CDRC reserves the right to withdraw, postpone,
cancel or combine classes/programs or to limit/increase registration. Cancellations will be posted on Facebook.
Transfers – Transfers from one class/program to another are based on availability within the same session. Transfers will not be permitted after the second
lesson of the program.
Refunds – All refunds are subject to an administration fee. Requests for refunds
must be received by the CDRC administration department prior to the end of the
second class. Requests for refunds after the second class will only be granted with
a doctor’s note. Refunds will be calculated on a pro-rated basis from the time the
CDRC administration department is notified regardless of the date the registrant
stopped attending classes. No refunds due to weather conditions or pool fouling.
Payments – Payment must be received before lessons begin. Missed classes will
not be rescheduled or refunded. Please ensure that you check the dates and
times that you have booked for your lessons. The CDRC accepts cash, cheque
and debit payments.
CDRC POOL INFORMATION
Swimming Pool – The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex provides an outdoor 13m x 25m, six-lane lap pool. Note: If you would like to rent one of the
pools, or for more information contact the CDRC Pool.
Accessibility – The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex pool has a chairlift
available for getting in and out of the water. When you arrive at the facility,
contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into the water are also available.
Medical Conditions – Please inform the Lifeguards if you have a medical condition. In the interest of public health and safety the Lifesaving
Society requires that “individuals with a serious medical condition be
directly supervised by an adult who is familiar with the condition and
treatment”.
Admission Standards for Public Swims – Children under 9 years of age must
be directly supervised in the water and within arm’s reach of a guardian 16
years of age or older. Maximum three children under 9 years of age per
guardian. Participants aged 9 and up may be required to participate in
a facility swim test to determine their swimming level. Those who pass the
facility swim test may swim in the deep end. Those who do not pass the
facility swim test must remain in the shallow end.
Facility Swim Test – To successfully pass the facility swim test, participants
must: swim 25 metres with the ability to put their face in the water; take at
least one (1) breath without putting their feet on the bottom of the pool;
and, tread water for one (1) minute. The swim admission standard applies
to all swims. Aquatics staff may ask for a demonstration of swimming ability
if they feel there is a question of a participant’s safety.
What Should my Baby Wear in the Pool? – Babies should wear baby swim
diapers or plastic pants under a bathing suit. Swim diapers are available to
purchase for $2 at the Customer Service Desk.
Changerooms – Children under 7 years of age may use any changeroom
accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older. Children 7 years of
age and over must use the appropriate gender changeroom. The Centre
Dufferin Recration Complex has a family changeroom, which may be used
by either gender. For safety reasons, no strollers are allowed in the shower
area or or on the pool deck.
Personal Property – Participants are responsible for their personal belongings while participating in programs. Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex
assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available in the
pool changerooms. You must provide your own lock and remove it when
you leave.
Day Care and Senior/Adult Swim – Swims targeted to parents with young
children, seniors and special needs patrons.
Public Swim – Pool toys and personal flotation aids are allowed in the shallow end. Please check with our lifeguards for approval.
Age of Participants – Most children’s programs/activities are age-specific.
We ask that you respect these guidelines which were developed to serve
the best interests of all participants, and to ensure an enjoyable experience
in our programs.
Important Note – Recreational swimming hours may change due to special
events or program needs. Changes will be posted one week prior to event.
Parents should ensure that children have not eaten at least one hour prior
to swimming to reduce the risk of vomiting while swimming. If your child
is not feeling well, consider the health of others and do not participate in
the program. Pool facilities may close without notice due to maintenance
issues or pol fouling.
Lesson Notes – Please prepare your child for a male or female instructor.
Staff cannot accommodate preference of instructor.

SHELBURNE POLICE
A TRADITION OF SERVICE
LOCK-IT OR LOSE-IT!
The Shelburne police are urging the
public to “LOCK IT OR LOSE IT”.
Studies about thefts from vehicles
show that nearly 100% of these crimes
involve unlocked car doors or incidents
where valuables were left in plain view
with or without locked doors. Many of
these crimes - and the resulting losses
to the victims - can be prevented with
some simple, common sense actions
on the part of all of us.
Here are a few crime prevention tips
to help keep us from becoming the
victim of a burglary or theft:
• Remember to always secure your
car doors when parking your vehicle,
even if for a few minutes or in your own
driveway. It just takes a few seconds
for a criminal to enter an unlocked
vehicle.
• Do not leave valuables, such as
cellphones, GPS units, iPods, laptops,
purses, tools etc. in plain view inside
your vehicle. Secure them in a glove
box, console, or even better in the
trunk. Thieves will generally search for
other vehicles that are easier targets.
• Park in well lighted areas at night.
• Not every car burglar working the
street is easily spotted. Be wary of
anyone who seems to be suspicious.
• Keep your garage door closed and
locked at night. Many burglaries to

garages occur with doors left wide
open. An open garage is an invitation
to a thief to take anything in sight.
• Be SUSPICIOUS of anyone
approaching your vehicle or roaming
your neighbourhood.
• It is important to call police
immediately whenever possible,
whether day or night, to most
effectively prevent a crime, identify
potential criminals or solve a crime. If a
citizen believes a crime is in progress,
is about to occur or has just occurred,
calling 9-1-1 is the most effective
method of contacting police.

Rzone
What is the Rzone?
How you can help
The Rzone is an operating procedure that identifies a code
of conduct shich applies to all Town of Shelburne recreation

procedure enforces a set of expectations around violence,
vandalism and inapproprriate behaviour for participants and
the general public.

What does the Rzone mean?
The “R” in the Rzone logo stands for Respect and Responsibility. Respect for Yourself; Respect for Others; and Responsibility
for your Actions. The logo will serve as a reminder to staff
and the public that the operating procedure is in effect and
applies to everyone: coaches, parents, players, performers,
audiences and visitors.
Goal
The goal of the Rzone operating procedure is to improve the
safety and leisure environment in all Town of Shelburne recreation and cultural centres, facilities, parks and programs.
Community organizations, residents, visitors and Town staff will
work together to promote respect and responsibility, improving
the safety, appearance and environment of our community.
• Remember to respect property, materials and
equipment when using services or participating in
programs at our community centres, arena and parks
