[skoo-kuh m] is a First Nation
word meaning Powerful,
Strong & Impressive and
Skookum Brand™ is an
innovative meld of modern and
traditional materials and
designs.
It’s natural for Canadians to
define Power through the
acceptance of responsibility,
and Strength through the
understanding and integration
of our diverse cultures.
YUKON ANORAK
Skookum Brand™ anoraks have been designed for people who live in
Canada and in the higher latitudes worldwide, who want to look good and
truly enjoy winter temperatures -- not just survive them.
The Skookum Brand™ anorak is an innovative and award winning luxury
outerwear jacket that is a meld of modern and traditional materials and
design -- inspired by centuries-old Inuit design.
Every northerner knows that the secret to staying warm is staying dry -- the
secret behind the Skookum Brand™ anorak is that it doesn’t just rely on
high-tech breathable fabrics, it works by actively venting moisture by design.
Unlike other bulky industrial parkas that are really only good at extreme cold
temperatures, Skookum Brand™ anoraks are versatile in many temperature
ranges, they are lightweight, stylish, and above all – they are distinctly
Canadian.

ACTIVE VENTING
Ultimately, the challenge for cold weather clothing is to overcome condensation which
forms on inside layers as a result of perspiration in cold outside temperatures. The
amount of moisture an active person expires during heavy activity can be measured in
litres per hour. If that moisture-laden air doesn’t vent before condensing, cold weather
clothing quickly loses its insulation value. Most modern-day garments claim to overcome
this with high-tech "breathable" fabrics; and as every northerner knows, these claims are
only partially true.
Skookum Brand™ anoraks don’t just rely on high-tech breathable fabrics, they are
designed to actively vent moisture by design. During warm or active periods, Skookum
Brand™ anoraks can be adjusted to pump out moisture-laden air before it condenses,
with normal body movements almost like a bellows. During cold or inactive periods the
anorak can be adjusted to trap and conserve essential body heat.

IVVAVIK
The original innovative and award winning Yukon Anorak, the “Skookum Classic” has
been tested in some of the world’s most challenging cold weather environments, like
the Iditarod, the Yukon Quest, the Yukon Arctic Ultra, and even the British Antarctic
Survey.
Named after the first national park in Canada that was created as a result of a First
Nation’s land claim agreement and an area that protects a portion of the Porcupine
caribou herd’s calving grounds. In the language of the Inuvialuit, “Ivvavik” means a
place for giving birth, or a nursery.

The responsible use of fur, by definition,
means using the highest humane harvesting
standards, managing fur bearing animals
with principles of conservation biology, and
generally demonstrating the utmost care &
respect for wild animals and their habitats.
All of which is why we exclusively use
Genuine MacKenzie Valley Furs and furs
from the Yukon Soft Gold programs.
We live in the north where many aboriginal
people harvest fur in a sustainable manner
for subsistence purposes. We believe that
fur harvesters are Stewards of the land that
share values with other conservationists,
and this is aided by their vested interest in
wildlife habitat.
