CHILDREN'S CHATTER FROM THE DESK OF DIANE KOLB, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear Friends and Supporters: The holiday season began with a Storybook-themed Halloween, followed by a warm and bright Thanksgiving. Ed Anderson delivered his tasty Thanksgiving turkey and many friends delivered delicious holiday treats throughout the holiday season. Volume VIII, Issue II Winter 2015 We were delighted Alive Youth Ministries of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marysville adopted us this Christmas season. Youth Pastor Ryan delighted the kids and the child in all of us at our annual party. A NEW MONTH FOR THE 2015 EBA TASTE OF THE TOWN... JOIN US IN MAY & MAKE A DIFFERENCE Mario Morales and the Eastside Business Association chose us again as the beneficiary of their annual Taste of the Town Auction. I hope you will join us Saturday, May 16 at the Bellevue Arts Museum. The friendship and kindness you shared with us throughout the holiday season gave so much to our kids, their loved ones and the staff. The Eastside Business Association selected Children’s Country Home as the beneficiary of their annual charity auction at their Taste of the Town event Saturday, May 16 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Bellevue Arts Museum. Tickets are $88 per person and includes delectable dishes from the top ten eastside restaurants. Local wine, beer and hard cider will refresh your palate. Entertainment features the Latin beat of Cedar Suede. Together, we help each child reach his or her potential. Penny, Dry, RN, Queen of the CCH Halloween festivities, ensures we celebrate in a grand way. The house and yard were once again fully decorated; this year even featured a larger than life witch on the patio. This year’s theme, Storybook Characters, was a success…joining us from the pages of our favorite books were Mother Goose, Raggedy Ann, Pocahontas, Harry Potter and Humpty Dumpty to name a few. We enjoyed good friends, good food and good times. We invite you to join us next year for our Halloween party. The Christmas party featured Christmas carols, festive refreshments, the Alive Youth Group from Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Marysville and many of our favorite friends. Santa’s visit was just in time for the children to share their wish list with Santa prior to his Christmas night visit. Nancy James hosted her own personal Bright Start Breakfast with her friends since the annual Bright Start Breakfast was canceled with the plans to create another fundraising event. Nancy and her friends’ loyalty and generosity were greatly appreciated. Thank you Nancy and friends! The board of directors collaborated to provide a special thank you to the staff for each’s ongoing commitment and dedication to the mission. The staff was grateful for this token of appreciation. We offer a special thank you to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Youth Pastor Ryan Brown for bringing the spirit of Christmas to our party. Bill Parfitt and his networking group, Good Morning Networkers, donated their meeting proceeds to us in support of the holidays and Eric’s Fund. Malachi with his pile of Angelica & Santa gifts from Santa CHRISTMAS STORY AT THE 5th AVENUE THE STAFF CELEBRATES December 13 featured a merry and festive holiday party at the home of Khanh, one of our nurses. Together, the members of the staff enjoyed a potluck holiday meal and treats, an entertaining white elephant gift exchange and the camaraderie of revealing ourselves to our Secret Santa. The staff, together as a team, is the backbone of the fulfillment of the mission at Children’s Country Home. Thanks to the generosity of Bernie and Sean Griffin, Angelica and her family attended the performance of A Christmas Story at the 5th Avenue Theatre in downtown Seattle. What a delight for Angelica. Vernon as the Co-Executive Director of Youth Net NW. While we are extremely pleased for Carla’s success, she will be greatly missed by everyone at Children’s Country Home. We wish a sincere thank you to everyone who provided food and treats during the holiday season. Board Member Ed Anderson delivered his delectable turkey for Thanksgiving and many friends delivered indulgences and goodies throughout the season. What a treat to receive such thoughtful gifts. Thanks to Make a Wish and members of the Children’s Country Home staff, Angelica and her family delighted in the classic attractions, enchanting fireworks, musical parades and beloved Disney Characters, they also visited Sea World, Universal Studios and Epcot. To top that, Angelica selected Bubba Gump Shrimp Company for dinner one evening! What a treasury of special memories for Angelica and her family.
