1. Mark the location of the wall mount brackets on your wall.
2. Use screws to fasten the wall mount bracket mounting plate to wood blocking or wall studs. Otherwise, use appropriate fasteners as determined by your particular mounting condition – i.e. hollow wall fasteners or masonry
anchors.
3. Loosely fasten the brackets to the wall.
4. Place the Cap Rail on the wall mount expansion bracket and adjust the brackets to the wall. Prior to securing,
verify the fit of all joints and seams.
5. Once all joints and dimensions have been confirmed, tighten all screws.
6. Move Snap-On Cover into position and apply pressure to the flange to lock it onto the wall bracket mounting plate.

Light Output
High Output
The High Output LED Light Strip provides illumination levels of 127
lms/ft for Cool White and 145 lms/ft for Warm White. High Output is
best suited for interior applications requiring a minimum of 10 footcandles along ramps or stairs. High Output power consumption is 8
watts/ft.
Standard Output
The Standard Output LED Light Strip provides illumination levels of
48 lms/ft for Cool White and 38 lms/ft for Warm White. Standard
Output is appropriate for exterior or dark interior applications with
lower ambient light levels. Standard Output power consumption is 2
watts/ft.
Accent Lighting
While the Standard Output Light Strip is an excellent product for
accent lighting applications, a more economical option is being
researched that will provide an aesthetically pleasing glow for your
railing applications. This product will be available by the second
quarter of 2007. Go to www.lumenrail.com for the latest information.
The Lumenrail® Lighting Strip is comprised of an LED circuit board
and optical assembly mounted within an aluminum channel. The
ends are closed with stainless steel end caps and sealed to inhibit
water entry.
Lumenrail Light Strips are
sold as part of an assembly utilizing Wagner
Slotted Cap Rail and
mounting
hardware.
Refer to pages 21 and 22
for specification key.
Fixtures are provided with double end feeds – wires at both ends. If
one end is not needed, simply cut and use a wire nut to close the
end.
LED Lumen depreciation at 50,000 hours is 30%.
The LED Light Strip is available in two intensities – Standard Output
and High Output.

HANDRAIL AND GUARDRAIL
Guards are generally required for ramps, stairs or landings above
30". The height will vary depending on the code. Commercial codes
require a guard to be 42" in height while residential codes only
requires a guard to be 36" in height – always confirm these dimensions with your local authorities.
An option is to install Lumenrail® into the handrail portion of a guard
and use the light to wash the infill. Wagner is presently developing
components that will permit wire routing through a handrail mounted
in this fashion. Go to www.lumenrail.com for the latest developments.
The details shown here are variations to consider when specifying a
stair railing.
GLASS
RAILING
Handrails are located between 34" and 38" and have dimensional
limitations for graspability. As such, if a 42" guardrail is called for on
a stair or ramp, it will also require a secondary handrail at the appropriate height. A guard Cap Rail that is not used as a handrail would
not have a graspability size limitation.
Guards also have opening limitations to consider. The most common
requirement is that no opening be large enough to allow a 4" sphere
to pass. Infills such as ecoresin panels, Archimesh, vertical pickets,
glass or cable may be used and will present different challenges
when used with Lumenrail®.
WAGNERAIL
SYSTEM
Handrails are in place to provide guidance while the purpose of a
guardrail is to prevent accidental falls.

In a residential application, the Cap Rail can serve as both a
handrail and guardrail. In a commercial application requiring a
42" high guard, a secondary handrail will be required.
If this is a guardrail – generally required if there is a drop of greater
than 30" on one side, no openings greater than 4" are permitted. An
infill of some type will be required. Select carefully as not all infill

Lumenrail® Wall Mount Installation
PLAN
1. Measure the staircase, walkway or landing where you will be
installing Lumenrail®.
2. Prepare a simple sketch of your railing. The materials needed include Cap Rail; neoprene insert filler; Light Mounting Clip;
Light Backing Strip; Lido-Weld Adhesive; Handrail Bracket
Assembly; Sleeves; Transition Sleeves; LED Light Strip; Driver,
Fasteners; and either Wall Returns, Rail Ends or End Caps.
Verify lengths of all internal hardware components to determine
the correct LED Light Strip length.
3. Determine the length of the Cap Rail and be sure to allow for
Wall Returns, Rail Ends or End Caps. These will require subtracting from the overall length.
4. Determine where the electrical wire needs to feed the railing.
5. Create a detailed parts list consisting of all parts and quantities required. Space the Wall Mount Brackets equally throughout the length of the rail. We recommend spacing the wall
mount brackets 4 to 5 feet apart. For stair applications, it is
desirable to transition the handrail past the last stair with a horizontal rail 6 to 12 inches. Some local codes require this extension to be 12 inches. Contact your local authorities to confirm
requirements.
6. Place your order by contacting Wagner or online at
www.shopwagner.com. Note that due to numerous substrate
applications, our Wall Mount Brackets do not include mounting
screws. Your application will require additional hardware available at your local hardware store or industrial supplier.
www.lumenrail.com
4. Place the Cap Rail on the wall mount expansion brackets and
adjust the brackets for the proper angle. Before you securely
tighten the brackets to the wall, verify the fit of joints and seams
using the internal sleeves and transition sleeves.
5. Dry assemble the railing with Internal Sleeves and Transition
Sleeves to verify fit.
a. For Transition Sleeves, apply adhesive and insert the
sleeve into the smaller of the two inside diameter rails first.
b. For Internal Sleeves, apply adhesive to the inside of the
Cap Rail and insert the sleeve halfway into the Cap Rail.
After the sleeve is inserted, apply adhesive to the opposite
rail interior and join the two components. Immediately wipe
excess adhesive from the joint. Place a rag under the joint
to catch any excess adhesive that might drip from the joint.
Wagner recommends tying together the two sections
joined with Lido-Weld adhesive to prevent any slippage or
gaps prior to the adhesive drying.
6. Securely tighten the Cap Rail to the Brackets by screwing in
the set screws on the expansion handrail bracket assembly.
7. Use the Transition Sleeves to secure wall returns or rail ends
to the Cap Rail. See 5.a above for application.
8. Once the installation is complete, remove any protective wrap
or film from the railing.
9. Maintain the rich finish of your rail with Lido Luster metal polish.
PREPARATION
1. Determine the required height of your railing. Most codes
require handrail to be between 34 and 38 inches in height.
Guardrail height is generally 42 inches. Confirm these requirements with your local code authorities.
2. Mark the location of your railing installation with a pencil.
3. Mark the location of the wall mount brackets with a pencil.
4. Use screws to fasten the wall mount bracket mounting
plate to a stud, or use an appropriate fastener as determined
by your particular mounting condition (i.e., hollow wall fasteners or masonry anchors).
5. Carefully read the instructions for the Lido-Weld adhesive
prior to installation. This adhesive is formulated to bond metals
in the absence of air. Wagner recommends applying the adhesive to the inside diameter of the pipe, rail or Cap Rail, rather
than the internal sleeve. This will help prevent the adhesive
from being forced out of the rail at the seam.
Greg

6. Confirm proper railing installation locations for jobs with
more than one railing by verifying initial measurements with
railing dimensions
INSTALLATION
1. Leave as much of protective wrapping on the Lumenrail® components as possible during the following process.
2. Mark the railing slope and height, and wall mount bracket location.
3. Loosely fasten the wall mount brackets to the wall. Whether the
brackets are fastened to a stud, or drywall, it must be determined if a wire way needs to be drilled through the substrate.
The wire way will be located in either the center of a wall mount
bracket or in the rail end.
