Las Americas, formerly known as the
International Gateway of the Americas, is a
planned development along the American side of
the U.S.-Mexico border. This major project was
designed with the intent to redevelop the area and
dramatically change the border crossing at San
Ysidro. The end result is a world-class gateway
between the cities of San Diego and Tijuana.
The development of this Phase encompassed
a 630,000-square-foot, open-air shopping center
with retail stores, restaurants, courtyards, fountains,
esplanades and plazas. Helix Electric was
responsible for all site lighting, including building
lighting, HVAC power and fire alarm and conduit
systems. In addition, Helix provided lighting for the
parking lots, the buildings’ shell power and lighting
and selected tenant improvements.
With more than 75 designer name-brand
