Kayak, SUP and Sailing Instruction
Basic Skills Kayaking
Learn flatwater paddling and safety skills as well as reviewing the
different types of kayaks and gear. Practice essential paddle and rescue
techniques out on the water and gain the knowledge and skills you
need to embark on your own adventures this summer.
Intermediate Skills Kayaking
This course is for beginning and intermediate paddlers who have
taken our Basic Skills Kayaking Class and are looking to take things
to the next level. Learn smooth paddle strokes, effective maneuvers,
self-rescues and graceful re-entries on Elk Lake where kayakers
will experience alpine conditions like waves and shifting winds.
This is a great primer for our San Juans and
Panama Kayaking Adventures.
Basic Skills Stand Up Paddleboarding
Stand up paddleboarding is a fun and easy way to get out on
the water this summer! Learn basic paddle strokes and get
comfortable on your board while enjoying a whole new
vantage point above the water. The world’s fastest growing
water sport is also a great workout… try it for yourself and
gain the skills you need to explore Central Oregon’s rivers
and lakes on your own.
Hobie Sailing Sundays
Imagine gliding through the refreshing waters of an alpine lake
with only the wind propelling your forward, and Mt. Bachelor
or South Sister framed perfectly in the distance. Learn to sail
this summer on Elk Lake, one of Central Oregon’s most picturesque
bodies of water with a Hobie Adventure Island Sailing Kayak, a
simple and stable sailing vessel… you’ll be cruising away in no time.

Upper Deschutes 1/2 Day River Tour
Just 20 minutes from Bend, the Upper Deschutes River is completely
undeveloped and pristine. Choose between paddling a kayak or canoe
and we’ll make our way upstream towards Benham Falls, passing
ancient lava flows and colorful aspen groves as we explore tranquil
lagoons and side channels. And then enjoy an easy paddle downstream.
Upper Deschutes Full-Day Tour
Includes Lunch from Nancy P’s
Paddle nine miles of moving flatwater in a kayak or canoe and experience
the serenity and pristine beauty of a winding river. Keep an eye out for
deer, elk, cougars, black bears, bald eagles, red tail hawks, great blue
herons, beavers and otters. This is a great trip for families looking to get
off the beaten path in Central Oregon. A deli-style lunch will be served
half way through the trip.
Paddle Sampler
Let us do the heavy lifting as we explore some of Central Oregon’s finest
lakes and rivers. We'll sample a different lake or stretch of river each week.
Just show up with your boat, paddling gear and lunch for this day-long
excursion and we'll get you and your gear there and back in style. Don't
have your own paddling gear? We'll include a kayak rental and gear
as part of the program.
Stand Up Paddleboard Social Nights
Call up all your friends and plan a night out on the water catching
up and staying fit at the same time. Tumalo Creek SUP socials are
light on instruction, but your expert guide who will show you the
basics if you’re new to the sport. All gear is included, and the night
ends with a casual social on our deck overlooking the river.

Kids
Kids SUP Camp
Kowabunga! Grab a board and get ready to make some waves while
exploring some of the most beautiful scenery in Central Oregon. Kids
will progress through the basics of stand up paddleboarding while
packing in a ton of fun out on the water. They’ll leave camp with the
confidence to control their own board and maybe even show off
a few tricks.
Kids Yak-A-Tak Whitewater Camp
If your kids are looking for a big time adrenaline rush this summer,
sign them up for Whitewater Camp, where they’ll practice paddle strokes,
learn the kayak roll, meet new friends, and run some easy Class II rapids by
the end of the week. This camp is for both beginning and intermediate
paddlers, and kids will be grouped with others according to their ability.
Kids Paddlesports Adventure Camp
For the kids who just can’t decide, why not give them the
opportunity to try it all? The Paddlesports Adventure Camp
includes stand up paddleboarding on Elk Lake, kayaking on the
Deschutes, rafting on the McKenzie and learning to sail with our
Adventure Island Hobie Trimarans. Counselors will also integrate
compass reading, scavenger hunts, and cooperation skills.

Whitewater Kayaking Instruction
Full Immersion Whitewater Weekend
Ages 16 & Up
If you are looking for a challenge with big time rewards, whitewater
kayaking offers both in healthy doses. Experience a complete
introduction to the sport in just two and a half days, and run a Class II
river with Tumalo Creek’s ACA-certified instructors right by your side.
First Street Thursdays Skill Building
Ages 16 & Up
Put your time in out on the water and you’ll be prepared to run the
big stuff in no time. Kayakers love First Street because the rocky
rapids above the small boulder garden at the put-in create the ideal
conditions for practicing eddy turns, peel outs,combat rolls and ferrys.
Brace & Roll Sessions
Ages 16 & Up
Take your boating to the next level by polishing up your kayak roll
and testing the limits of your high and low brace. Learning both
the roll and the brace are two essential skills that will allow you to
take more risks and start experimenting with surfing and playboating.
Sunday River Trips
Continue to build your river skills by joining up with the
Full Immersion Whitewater Weekend Class on their final day.
Run a Class II river in Central Oregon with ACA-certified
instructors close by. The trip includes transportation and gear.

Multi-Day Trips
San Juan Islands
Embark on the trip of a lifetime while learning sea navigation,
ocean specific paddle techniques, efficient boat packing and wilderness
camping skills… Take your paddling skills to the next level while
exploring rocky cliffs, warm sandy beaches, and thick island forests
with the backdrop of Mt. Baker or the Olympic Mountains in the distance.
We’ll enjoy gourmet meals, and share stories and songs around the fire
every evening..
Panama Kayaking Adventure Week
Panama is the perfect destination for active adults looking to
explore a pristine country that is off the beaten path. One of the
highlights of this trip is a fully supported sea kayaking adventure
based on the Isla Coiba, a tropical paradise complete with white
sand beaches teeming with abundant wildlife including howler
monkeys, sea turtles and many bird species. You will be served
camping-style gourmet meals and have ample opportunity to
take advantage of world-class snorkeling, jungle hiking, surfing,
and star gazing after a long day of outdoor adventure.
SUP Santa Catalina Week
The SUP Santa Catalina option gives you the opportunity to
paddle various locations while enjoying the comfort and beauty of
La Buena Vida Villas in Santa Catalina as your hub. You can SUP in
stunning, tropical bays by day and still have plenty of leisure time
for walks on Playa Estero beach. Other activities include surfing, yoga,
birdwatching or simply reading in your hammock. This option includes
a day trip to Isla Coiba. Outstanding, freshly prepared breakfasts
provided by La Buena Vida.
