Dear Parishioners and Visitors
May 13, 2012
sixth sunday of easter
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
On this special weekend, we give thanks to God for all our mothers, mothers-tobe and those who desire in their heart to be mothers. We also remember fondly
our mothers who have gone before us and we pray they experience eternal joy
with the Father.
On this Mother’s Day weekend, we are also mindful of our First Holy
Communicants who will receive the Lord for the very first time in such an
intimate way. I extend a warm welcome to those family members who are here
with us on this most important day. I would like to express my sincere gratitude
to the parents, the first teachers of our faith, and to the teachers and catechists in
our PSR program and our school community.

How shall I repay the Lord for
his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
God’s love for us is the common theme of
today’s Scripture passages. His love is
manifested through the gift of His Son,
Jesus, who commands us to love one
another as He has loved us. Jesus proclaims
that there is no greater love than to lay down
one’s life for a friend. In gratitude for God’s
gifts, how are we, as good stewards,
returning his love to God and neighbor?
CCC Collection
Next week’s collection is for the
Catholic Communications Campaign
(CCC). Through your generous
donations, CCC is able to spread the
gospel message in our community and
all over the world. CCC funds the
development of traditional and new
media programs that inspire and
minister to their audiences. Half of the
collection from our archdiocese stays
here to support local communication
efforts, while the other half supports
national Catholic media initiatives.
Please give generously in next week’s
Collection to help us spread the Good
News. To find out more about CCC:

Retirement Party for Mrs. Peggy
Warner
All current and past parents, current and former staff,
alumni, grandparents and friends of Christ the King
School are invited to a Cocktail Reception for Mrs.
Peggy Warner. Mrs. Warner has served as Principal of
Christ the King School for 23 years and will be retiring at the end of the school
year.
The reception will be held on Thursday, May 24 from 6 - 8 pm at Christ the King
Cathedral’s Kenny Hall. Please RSVP by clicking the Retirement Party link on the
Christ the King School website – www.christking.org. RSVPs are due no later
than Thursday, May 17.
Grace Scholars
At each Mass this last weekend, the GRACE Scholars program
was presented as a way for you to support Catholic education
with taxes you already owe. If it sounds too good to be true…it isn’t!
What is GRACE Scholars, Inc.?
GRACE Scholars is the Archdiocesan Student Scholarship Organization (SSO)
allowed by law through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit. The program
allows Georgia taxpayers to designate a portion of their state tax obligation, to
Christ the King School to be used as financial aid. Each dollar donated to the
GRACE Scholars program is returned to the donor the following year as a state tax
refund. In addition, all donations can be included on federal tax returns as a
charitable donation.
There are currently 9 students at CKS who are on GRACE Scholarships, with the
intent to add more each year.
How to Contribute:
To participate, all donors must request approval from the Georgia Department of
Revenue. Once approved, donors will receive written notice that they can
contribute directly to GRACE Scholars. Donors then need to fill out a designation
form and mail that along with their check, to GRACE Scholars, Inc. Both the
approval form (TP1) and designation form are available at
www.gracescholars.com.
All requests for approval are determined on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once
the $51.5M cap is met for 2012, the State of Georgia will no longer approve
requests to participate. In 2011, the cap for this program was met on November
9, with the expectation that it will be met in June this year. All donors are
encouraged to participate as early as possible. If you have any further questions
about this program, please do not hesitate to contact Camille Naughton at
[email protected] or 404-233-0383 ext. 403.

The Cathedral of Christ
the King will offer the
Rainbows program during the 20122013 school year to children in the

a core-family loss such as death,
separation, divorce, deployment,
deportment, incarceration or
abandonment.
Who are Stephen Ministers?
They are well trained parish members commissioned to provide oneto-one caring lay ministry to persons in crisis such as a person
grieving from a divorce, the loss of a loved one, of a job, health
debilitation, living a time of pain or lack of direction. They are
grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
Funeral Reception Committee
The Funeral Reception Committee provides hospitality for families who ask to
have a reception following their loved one’s funeral. We have many opportunities
to serve: volunteers to cook food, telephone committee, or serve at the reception.
All is done on a rotation basis; recipes are provided and you will be called only
once or twice a month to volunteer. Join us to provide hospitality for our families
during a difficult time. To volunteer, call Jan Bloom, [email protected].

CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE KING
CTK Food Drive
for Children and
Families in Need
Spring is here, and children all
across our city will soon leave their
classrooms. Nearly 1 in 5 children
in Georgia do not
have enough food,
and for many of those
children, school
provided their only
full meals of the day.
During the summer,
the need for food donations
increases because children who may
get one or two meals at school will
be eating three meals a day at home.
This can be a heavy burden for
families whose budgets are already
stretched thin.
You can help! Christ the King is
sponsoring a May Food Drive for
Buckhead Christian Ministry in
order to give families a
head start in feeding
their kids during the
summer. Bags with
food lists will be
distributed. Please fill
and return your bags
to the BCM containers next to the
reception desk. Donations can also
be made online at the Cathedral
website under Giving.
We’ll deliver your gifts to BCM —
together, we will make sure that
hungry children have enough food
to eat this summer.
Buckhead Christian Ministry hears
those families knocking and sees
their hungry faces, and that’s why
BCM is reaching out to Christ the
King for help during this critical
time.
Thank you for helping
families throughout Atlanta!

y a nuestros hermanos?

QUERIDOS PARROQUIANOS Y VISITANTES,
Padre Frank McNamee
Pastor
