New Spiritual Care Partnership
Berger Health System recently expanded its spiritual
care program to patients, families and employees through
a partnership with Circleville’s Heritage Nazarene Church.
Our church is providing staffing for this new program
using both licensed pastors and pastors-in-training. These
professionals will provide on-site coverage at Berger seven
days a week and on-call coverage 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. A spiritual care support
person can be requested by a patient,
family member or friend at any time
by notifying a doctor, nurse or staff
member of Berger.
Health System recently partnered with our church to expand its spiritual care program, Bill was a perfect fit for this
liaison position.
Bill’s new role in the chaplaincy program involves direct
patient contact and spiritual support for all Berger staff and
volunteers, as well as developing relationships with other
area pastors for optimal continuity
of spiritual care for patients. Bill is
responsible for training our fulltime church ministerial staff as well
as locally-licensed and district-licensed part-time staff who will be
involved in this program. Currently
Bill is the only person staffing this
position, with a few others trained
and ready for service.
The spiritual care team coordinator
is Reverend Bill Jarrell of Heritage. Jarrell and his team administer non-denominational, culturally sensitive support to those who request the service.
With this new program, Berger

When Bill retired last year from pastoral career with the
Church of the Nazarene, he knew his service to God was
not over, and that there was more work for him to do. He
and his wife, Melody, relocated last October from Virginia
to Circleville, where they quickly became active at Heritage, and now serve alongside their daughter, Tracy Boyer,
and family.

my father continued his recovery.”
The spiritual care team services are offered hospital-wide. The team members are available, whether you’re
at Berger as an inpatient, outpatient for testing, same day
surgery, or being treated in the emergency department.
Patients can always request to meet with their own spiritual provider within the community.

A Beautiful Mess: The Paynes
“Meet the Paynes?” – Oh boy,
where to start? Tyler and I have two
wonderful boys: Everett and Jackson.
We are growing our family by one
more boy coming in November. Tyler
is currently the Chief of Security at
Ohio Christian University and going
to OCU as a full time student in the
Criminal Justice program. Tyler helps
out with projects around the church
and loves to hunt & be outside. Since
graduating from OCU I became a
stay-at-home mom taking care of our
boys. I am a member of Front Line,
singing in the choir, I enjoy crafting
and helping others. We are busy, but
love our life!
Following our marriage five years
ago, we moved to Circleville. God had
a sense of humor bringing us here.
Tyler and I have known each other for
fourteen years. There is no mistaking
that God wanted us together. We have
been through everything together, but
trusting God to come here, away from
everything we knew, is a testament to
how faithful God is when you follow
His will.
We love this place now; we have
made it home. God has provided for
us every step of the way. We came on
blind faith that this is where we needed to be. I shocked everyone transferring to OCU from Youngstown State as
a senior. Tyler amazed everyone with
his desire to school for ministry. This
was not in our plan. We got married
and moved all in the same week. We
came with no jobs and hardly any
money, but we had God. Shortly after
classes started, a job opportunity
opened up for me and then for Tyler.
God always provided for our physical
and spiritual needs.
God had brought us back together
after some trying times about seven
years ago, and we decided that if
God wanted us together and to be
married we wanted to be a married
couple that reflected God. In the five
years here we have faced many trials:
fighting, growing our family, going to
school, our youngest son having heart
surgery, losing a baby early in pregnancy and so much more. I reflect on
the trials and simply smile with tears
in my eyes.
We certainly could not reflect who
God is without His help. In fact, we
have proved that when God is not
in the center of our relationship we
fail. We simply pray that God can use
us according to His will. Sometimes
that looks ugly, because we fail. We
will continue to keep trying to be
a reflection of God’s character. We
want to love God with all we have and
raise our boys to be strong men of
faith. Want to meet the Payne’s? We
are a beautiful mess trying to live life
according to God’s plan.

New Teachers
PRINCIPAL | Mrs. Baumgardner
I am NHCA’s new
K-11th grade principal. I
hold a Bachelor’s Degree
in Elementary Education
and a Master’s Degree in
Educational Leadership from Ohio Dominican University and hold a Certificate in teaching (1-8) and a Principal’s
Certificate from the State of Ohio.
I have been at NHCA for 10 years,
teaching mostly science, math and
Bible. My passion is science education
and I am excited to be a part of the
L-STEAM program. I live in Circleville
with my husband and two daughters.
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR | Mrs. Shipe
I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and moved
to Circleville, Ohio with
my grandmother when I
was in 3rd grade. I graduated from Circleville High School and
have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio Christian University. I
graduated with my Master of Science
in Education and Health Services
from the University of Dayton this
year. During college I had the privilege of being able to work with OCU
post-graduation as the Assistant to
the Vice President (AVP) of Operations
and AVP of IT for two years. From
there, I became an Academic Advisor
for the College of Adult and Graduate
Studies with OCU working with 300
college students. Due to beginning my
graduate program, I needed to be in a
position in which I would have more
flexibility in order to focus on my program and internship. I then accepted a
position as College and Career Advisor
with Pickaway HELPS and have thoroughly enjoyed this position in which I
was able to work with the four school
districts within Pickaway County
focusing on college & career advocacy.
I completed my counseling internship
under the supervision of Ronna Brisker at Teays Valley East Middle School
and am excited to be able to use the
many things she taught me in regard
to counseling, working with the many
stakeholders within the school community, and beyond. I currently live
in Circleville with my husband, Aaron,
and our dog, Pumpkin. We bought a
house around a year ago and are looking forward to being able to have the
time to tackle projects this summer/
fall. I am so very excited to be a part
of the NHCA family and am so thankful to God for this opportunity!
ELC DIRECTOR | Mrs. Wrightsel
I’m currently the Director of ELC Operations at
NHCA and I would like to
tell you a little bit about
myself. I have an eightteen month old son named Mason
that attends New Hope in the toddler

I have a Business degree from Ohio
University and I am now working toward my Masters in Education. I have
worked in child care since early 2014
and ha0ve really enjoyed working with
children –they are full of excitement
and energy. I have been employed
at NHCA since this spring in the ELC
classrooms and I am really excited to
continue here as an Administrator.

KINDERGARTEN | Ms. Pettinato
I graduated with my BA
in Early Childhood Education in 2012 from Kent
State. I will anticipate
earning my Master’s in
English as a second language. I am
entering my fourth year of teaching
and have taught Kindergarten the last
3 years. I live in Reynoldsburg with my
husband of two years, Sam, and our 2
dogs and 3 cats.
FIRST GRADE | Mrs. Grossnickle
I am so happy to be
teaching at NHCA this
year! I previously taught
preschool and kindergarten and am excited
to take on the new challenge of first
grade. I am a 2012 graduate of Cedarville University with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Early Childhood Education
(PreK-3) and a minor in Bible. Teaching is my passion and what I was
born to do! My teaching style is very
hands-on and I love to incorporate
art, music and drama into the curriculum as much as possible. I am the
oldest of 8 children, several of whom
attend NHCA. My family also attends
church here at Heritage Nazarene. In
my spare time, I enjoy doing arts and
crafts projects and outdoor activities.
I look forward to working with your
children this year!
FIRST GRADE | Mrs. Benson
I am a 2009 Graduate of
Ohio University’s Chillicothe campus, where
I earned a Bachelor of
Science in Early Childhood
Education. Most recently I worked

SECOND GRADE | Mrs. Allison
I am incredibly excited
to be a teacher at NHCA!
I was born and raised
in rural southwestern
Pennsylvania. In 2004, I
graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a
Bachelor’s degree in English. The next
year I married my husband, Ryan, and
moved to Columbus. After working as
a reading tutor for years, I went back
to school and obtained my Early Childhood license from Ashland University.
For the past 2 years I have been a substitute teacher in Groveport Madison
schools. I joyfully attend Dayspring
Community Church of the Nazarene in
Canal Winchester where I am involved
in children’s ministry. In my free time,
I enjoy hanging out with my husband,
reading, Volkswagens, and spending
time with our 3 cats.
THIRD GRADE | Ms. Dearth
This past year I student-taught at NHCA. I
am a recent graduate of
Ohio Christian University,
with a degree in Elementary Education. I am very excited to be
joining the staff at NHCA. In my free
time I enjoy reading, photography,
anything Disney, and spending time
with my puppy, Paisley.
FOURTH GRADE | Ms. Scull
I was born and raised
in the Columbus area. I
graduated from Messiah
College with a dual
certificate in Elementary
and Early Childhood Education. I am
currently working toward a Master’s
in Education with a Reading Specialist
certificate from Liberty University. I
taught two years at a charter school
prior to coming to NHCA. I am an
active member of Worthington
Christian Church. In my spare time
I enjoy playing sports, in particular
soccer and rock climbing. I also enjoy
reading mysteries.
FOURTH GRADE | Mrs. Ramsburg
I received my
Bachelor’s degree from
Marshall University in
West Virginia. There, I
was a member of the
marching band (trumpet), sang in
campus shows, made homecoming
court, and even graduated with
honors. I have recently started my
Master’s program in literacy online
through Eastern Kentucky University.
After graduating from Marshall, my
first teaching job was in southern
Ohio at Meigs Primary School where
I taught first grade. I absolutely
loved it! My family then moved to
Kentucky so that my husband could
attend university. After a lot of trials
and prayer, we made the decision to
move back to Ohio when my husband
realized that his study field was not
what he was supposed to do. After
moving, I started my second year
of teaching with a charter school in
Columbus called Imagine Schools.
There I was the Intervention Specialist
and taught students with I.E.P.s with
an in-depth curriculum. After the
school year ended, I felt like I was
being called somewhere else. I got
back in touch with Julie Baumgardner
who was my fifth grade teacher. I
talked to her and felt like God was
talking to me through her and that
He wanted me to surround myself
with Godly, encouraging people. After
accepting a position through New
Hope, I finally feel like this is where

Upward Bound program which helps
high school students in their academic
classes while encouraging them to attend college. I have been a substitute
teacher in the Columbus Metropolitan area since 2013. I am a member
of the Alkire Rd church of Christ in
Grove City where I am active in many

Being Statesman
NEW TEACHERS - continued from page 4
HS SCIENCE/HEALTH | Mrs. Ray
I am very excited about
coming to NHCA. I have
not followed the traditional path in becoming
a teacher, but truly felt
called to teach and feel blessed to
have the opportunity to teach in a
Christian school. During the first year
that I lived in Ohio, I worked as a substitute teacher in various school districts in Central Ohio. For the past 3
years, I have worked for ECOT (teaching chemistry in an online environment) but I have truly missed knowing
my students and being able to instruct
science in a hands-on manner.
Look at this Statesman! Logan Davidson
attended the
Boston Congress
of Future Science
and Tech Leaders.
It was 2.5 packed
days of presenters
like IBM Watson’s
Chief and the
Director of MIT’s
Center of Bits and Atoms. What an
awesome experience!

K-12 SPANISH | Mrs. Zimmerman
My teaching experience includes: Language
arts; English; Bible;
Pastoral training, Teacher
training; Music; Compassion International Center director
and teacher at collegiate levels, public
schools, private schools, and around
the world. I am originally from Pickerington, Ohio and now currently live in
Circleville. I am very happily married
with two children and 8 grandchildren.
We have already seen some changes this summer as the driveway
entrance to the church is moved 200 feet north of the current location.
Based on the projected growth of the school, church and community,
the Pickaway County Engineer’s Department has required that Walnut
Creek Pike be widened to include left and right turn lanes into the new
entrance.
While we recognize this construction may present temporary
challenges, we look forward to improved access for all who travel to our
facility and also along Walnut Creek Pike. Construction has begun and is
expected to be complete in September.
Dear Heritage NazareneThank you so much for making a difference in the lives of our young moms; with your
monetary gift we are able to offer parentling classes and provide essential material needs
of mom and baby. The more we work together in our community, the greater impact for
the Lord. We so appreciate your support to make this a reality in Circleville.

Following God
What would prompt a young career
woman with a Master’s Degree in
Business to walk away from her highly
successful ten year career at Nationwide Insurance? It was Mindy Schemrich’s obedience to God’s leading her
to devote more time to her family
and to serve through our church GO
service projects under the direction of
Sean Hampton.
Mindy has put her professional
skills to good use on much behind
the scenes work with organizing GO
projects, researching grants for potential future projects and matching the
needs of those in our community with
the talents of those in our church.
She , her husband and three daughters are very involved in hands-on
service projects as well.
Mindy’s obedience to God’s prompting was not immediate. She first
sensed that God wanted her to step
out and do something for Him when
she heard Christian speaker, David
Nasser, in 2014.
Mindy’s passion is to show people
Christ, and she prays that they will
come to know Him. “Sometimes,” she
said, “I just drive through the streets
of Circleville praying for people and
for the vision I have for local projects
to help make Christ known.”
Mindy then did what many of us
would do and put out a fleece. (Putting out a fleece is to ask God’s help
in making a decision by calling for
God to show a designated sign. Like
Gideon of the Old Testament, Mindy
requested a second fleece when her
first petition was answered.
When the announcement was
made that Sean was coming to our
Mindy Schemrich
church to head up the area of Mission
Fulfillment, Mindy knew that this
was her time and place to serve. She
talked things over with her supportive
husband, Joe, and then stepped out in
faith and met with her director at Nationwide, who was reluctant to let her
go. Mindy boldly explained that God
was leading her to make this major
life change. Her last day at Nationwide was June 15, 2015.
[7]
If you know of anyone with a need
that our church may be able to meet,
or if you, like Mindy, wish to be more
involved to be a blessing to others,
please stop by the Mission Fulfillment
display in the main foyer, just left of
the doors as you exit the building.
Thank you Mindy and family for
your obedient spirit.

A small group is just that–a small
number of people who have agreed
to spend time together regularly
for an agreed-upon period of time.
During their time together they live
life together, share their experiences
and knowledge of God and Faith, and
serve themselves and others.
One couple facing serious surgery
found their group’s prayer, concern,
and help for the home during that
time invaluable and deeply appreciated.
One lady was helped by her group
to understand how her ability to work
with women’s hair was a doorway
to making new disciples. Acting on
those opportunities have led several
to become part of a church home.
Another couple credits their group’s
help in increasing the time they spend
together in the Scriptures.
One couple facing the tragedy of
miscarriage experienced a strengthening of faith and their marital relationship. They said it was because of their
small group.
We are hearing reports of people
developing their own life groups with
the people in their area of influence.
These groups are formed out of doing
life together, seeing people and inviting them to come along. This is true
discipleship...meeting people where
they are.

SUMMER YOUTH SERVICE
In East Liverpool, OH , our youth joined the local Nazarene youth to serve that community together.
Four of our youth attended Nazarene Youth
Conference (NYC) in Louisville, KY. NYC meets in
various cities once every 4 years. The event had
incredible speakers and musicians that challenged
the students to build The Kingdom of God while
living on this earth.
Over 7500 teenagers
and adults invaded the
city and shared the
love of Jesus in many
various ways. Our group
teamed up with a few
other groups from our
district and worked
at a place called The
Hildegard House. This is an old home where nuns
lived and is now being transformed into a hospice
house for homeless people who cannot afford
hospice care. The group vacuumed, dusted and
did a thorough cleaning of the home.

GO! TIME
This is the second year we
have engaged in the mission of God
by participating in “GO”, with over
506 project slots filled by seniors,
adults, youth, and children all seeking
to bless their neighbor. According to
Pastor Sean Hampton, “We want to
be able to meet needs as the hands
and feet of Jesus Christ. That’s why
we were so comfortable serving on
Sunday.” Glorifying God and making
disciples through loving our neighbors
was the intent, and the different testimonies offered and prayer requests
received are evidence to those efforts.
“We all stood in his driveway
and sang Amazing Grace together. It
brought tears to his eyes…It was very
moving”. – Cathy Beckstedt
“The Pickaway Manor activity
person was well pleased and could
not thank us enough. She said it was
one of the biggest turnouts they have
had for the service”. – Jim Ritterbach
“I know God used all of the
simple and unexpected things…to his
ultimate glory for a man we were able
to bless that day”. – Logan Hicks
