Syfte och övergripande programmål
Programmet, som leder till sjökaptensexamen, syftar till att utbilda fartygsbefäl med en bred
teoretisk och praktisk kunskapsbas och med rätt uppsättning certifikat och intyg, enligt nationella
och internationella regelverk, för att tjänstgöra till sjöss inom handelsflottan, framför allt på tank-,
passagerar- och rorofartyg, som befälhavare efter erforderlig sjötid.
Programmet skall uppfylla de krav på utbildning som ställs i Högskoleförordningen,
Transportstyrelsens föreskrifter och allmänna råd om utbildning och behörigheter för sjöpersonal,
Europaparlamentets och -rådets direktiv om minimikrav på utbildning för sjöfolk, Internationella
konventionen om utbildning, certifiering och vakthållning för sjöfolk 1978 i dess ändrade lydelse
(STCW-konventionen) samt den lokala examensordningen på Chalmers.
Programmets vision
Genom en högkvalitativ teoretisk och praktisk utbildning i världsklass utbilda fartygsbefäl, för dagens
och morgondagens sjöfart, som har ett helhetskunnande inom sjöfart och en bra grund för ett
livslångt lärande.

Programmets idé
Följande idéer är centrala vid planering och genomförande av programmet:












Programmet skall bygga på STCW-konventionen men i centrala delar nå ytterligare en nivå,
bland annat inom ledarskap, sjöfartens miljöpåverkan samt tekniskt avancerad navigation.
Programmet har en introduktionskurs som bland annat ger inblick i ett modernt fartygsbefäls
vardag samtidigt som en historisk genomgång av sjöfarten görs.
Sjökaptensyrket är ett praktiskt yrke i många delar, varför alla kritiska yrkesfärdigheter skall
tränas och fördjupas genom övningar i simulator eller på riktiga fartyg. Dessa
yrkesfärdigheter repeteras och fördjupas under utbildningen.
För att förbereda studenten till att verka inom internationell sjöfart strävas efter att minst
kurser motsvarande en termin ges på engelska för att förbättra studenternas
språkfärdigheter samt möjliggöra internationella student- och lärarutbyten.
Alla praktiska övningar skall ha klart uttalat syfte, lärandemål och examinationskrav angivna.
Efter avslutad utbildning skall studenterna inneha de certifikat som är nödvändiga för ett
första jobb på de vanligaste fartygstyperna inom svensk handelsflotta.
Studenternas förmåga att arbeta i grupp och att kommunicera, både på svenska och
engelska, utvecklas och utnyttjas genom integration av dessa färdigheter i kurserna. Det
finns en tydlig progression av dessa färdigheter i utbildningen.
Studenterna skall ges möjlighet att välja bland valbara kurser som ger en fördjupning inom
sjötransportteknik och nautik, eller breddning inom ledarskap, maskinteknik, sjörätt och
logistik.
Programmet och kurserna är utvecklade genom constructive alignment, d.v.s. det finns en
tydlig koppling mellan lärandemål, undervisningsaktivitet och examination.
För att säkerställa krav på varvad teori och praktik finns ett antal spärrkurser som måste vara
godkända innan fartygsförlagd utbildning i olika nivåer kan påbörjas, samt antal dagar
fartygsförlagd utbildning som måste vara avklarad innan vissa kurser kan påbörjas.
Spärrkurser säkerställer dessutom att kurser som bygger på varandra läses i rätt ordning.
Kurslitteratur i årskurs 3 och 4 är företrädesvis på engelska för att bättre förbereda
studenten för en internationell arbetsmiljö.
Arbetet med att utveckla programmet sker kontinuerligt i samverkan mellan lärare,
administration, studenter och programråd där näringslivet är representerat.
Övriga fordringar
För sjökaptensexamen på Chalmers skall studenten ha fullgjort kursfordringarna i miljö och hållbar
utveckling som skall ingå i utbildningsprogrammet med sammanlagt 7,5 högskolepoäng.

Programmål
Kunskap och förståelse
För sjökaptensexamen skall studenten
- (1) visa kunskap om områdets vetenskapliga grund och beprövade erfarenhet samt
kännedom om aktuellt forsknings- och utvecklingsarbete genom att
o (1.1) beskriva ett fartygs generella konstruktion och bärande element
o (1.2) beskriva och förklara de krafter som påverkar ett fartyg vid gång i öppet hav, i
grunda farvatten, vid gir, ankring och förtöjning
o (1.3) beskriva fartygets utsläpp till luft och vatten ur ett miljöperspektiv
o (1.4) kunna tillämpa plan och sfärisk trigonometri
o (1.5) beskriva meteorologiska och oceanografiska element och processer
o (1.6) beskriva tidvattnets uppkomst och beräkna dess höjd och tid
o (1.7) använda och förklara ortlinjeteori inom navigation
o (1.8) förklara hur fartygsmaskiner och fartygselektriska system fungerar och är
uppbyggda
o (1.9) beskriva grunderna för ett radionavigeringssystem
o (1.10) beskriva och förklara faktorer som påverkar fartygets stabilitet
o (1.11) redogöra för sjöfartens utmaningar inom olika områden
- (2) visa sådant brett sjöfartstekniskt kunnande som krävs för att i ledande befattning
operativt kunna ansvara för besättning, fartyg och last, genom att
o (2.1) navigatoriskt planera och genomföra en resa samt ansvara för navigeringen
o (2.2) bestämma fartygets position och dess noggrannhet
o (2.3) bestämma och korrigera kompassfel
o (2.4) genomföra en säker navigationsvakt samt upprätta vaktsystem och
vaktprocedurer
o (2.5) upprätthålla säker navigering genom användning av information från
navigationsutrustning, inklusive ECDIS och relaterade navigationssystem, som hjälp
vid beslutsfattande
o (2.6) använda radar och ARPA för säker navigation
o (2.7) prognostisera väder och sjötillstånd
o (2.8) manövrera fartyget i alla situationer
o (2.9) operera fjärrkontrollerat fartygets maskineri och tekniska system
o (2.10) övervaka, planera och säkerställa säker lastning, stuvning, lastsäkring, lastvård
och lossning av last
o (2.11) inspektera, rapportera och bedöma skador i lastutrymmen, lastluckor och
ballasttankar
o (2.12) säkert hantera farligt gods
o (2.13) kontrollera trim, stabilitet och skrovpåkänningar
o (2.14) kunna använda engelska i tal och skrift samt marina standardfraser

Programmål baserade på externa krav i enlighet med förordning om behörigheter för sjöpersonal

oceanfart,

(12.2) fullgöra godkänd utbildning för att få specialbehörighet som allmänt behörig
radiooperatör i GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System), inneha ett
allmänt operatörcertifikat för maritim mobil trafik i GMDSS (GOC-certifikat).
(12.3) genomgå godkänd utbildning i hantering av olje- och kemikalielaster.
(12.4) ha fullgjort godkänd utbildning i hantering av farlig last i torrlastfartyg och
brandskydd.
(12.5) för att kunna ta ansvar för sjukvården ombord, ha certifikat som sjukvårdare.
(12.6) för att kunna handha livräddningsfarkoster eller beredskapsbåtar ombord, ha
certifikat för handhavande av räddningsfarkoster och beredskapsbåtar.
(12.7) ha fullgjort godkänd utbildning i grundläggande säkerhet (basic safety) och ha
tillräckliga språkkunskaper för att kunna förstå och vidarebefordra
säkerhetsinformation.
(12.8) för att kunna leda brandbekämpning ombord inneha certifikat i avancerad
brandbekämpning.
(12.9) för att kunna ansvara för sjöfartsskyddet ombord på fartyg ha certifikat som
skyddsansvarig (Ship Security Officer).

Fartygsförlagd utbildning
Den fartygsförlagda utbildningen är indelad i fem praktikblock fördelade över de fyra årens studier.
Efter genomförd fartygsförlagd utbildning skall denna redovisas och godkännas i enlighet med
Kvalitetshandboken.
Om inte antalet praktikplatser räcker till görs ett urval då studenterna rangordnas. Rangordningen
sker i första hand genom indelning i fyra kategorier (A-D):
A.
Prioriterade studenter (enligt enskilt beslut)
B.
Normalstudenter
C.
Lågprioriterade studenter
D.
Studenter som inte klarat spärrkurser
Kategori A innehåller högprioriterade studenter vilka kan vara studenter som inte kommit ut på
tidigare planerad praktik på grund av yttre omständigheter (fartygsförsäljning eller annat negativt
besked från rederiet). Enskilt beslut krävs för att hamna i denna kategori.
Kategori B innehåller normalprioriterade studenter, d.v.s. studenter som är planerade för aktuell
praktikperiod.
Kategori C innehåller lågprioriterade studenter, det kan t.ex. vara studenter som söker praktikplats
utöver planerade praktikperioder eller som ”misskött” tidigare praktiker (inte utnyttjat hela
praktikperioden, brutit mot SUIs överenskommelse med studenten, inte fullgjort praktikuppgifter
eller struntat i redovisning av tidigare praktiker)
Kategori D innehåller studenter som inte klarat spärrkurser eller som grovt brutit mot SUIs
överenskommelse med studenten. Studenter i kategori D kommer inte få någon praktikplats oavsett
tillgång.
Studenter i kategori A-C kommer att rangordnas utifrån följande kriterier:

Avklarade (godkända) poäng på programmet (inkl. tillgodoräknade poäng samt
avklarade poäng som utbytesstudent inom programmet)
2.
Medelbetyg (på kurser genomförda på Chalmers)
3.
Lottning
Platserna fördelas sedan från nummer 1 i kategori A och nedåt i listan tills platserna är slut.
Rangordning för studenter som skall ut på sin första fartygsförlagda praktikperiod kommer ske
genom lottning, där även två studenter kan dela på en praktikplats genom att ta halva tiden vardera.

Kvalitetssäkring
Kvalitetssystemet för sjöfartsutbildningarna på Chalmers består av de krav och kriterier som ställs på
utbildningarna samlade i en kvalitetshandbok. För att kvalitetshandboken inte ska bli alltför
omfångsrik har hänvisningar gjorts till andra kvalitetsstyrande dokument. Dessa finns samlade i en
egen pärm på Institutionen för sjöfart och marin teknik.
Övergripande styrande dokument för utbildningarna är även Chalmers verksamhetsplaner,
utbildningsplaner för respektive utbildning samt kursplaner.
Kvalitetssystemet säkerställs genom kontinuerliga uppföljningar av kvalitetsarbetet. Vid institutionen
för sjöfart och marin teknik finns en ledningsgrupp i kvalitetsfrågor bestående av prefekt, viceprefekt,
chef för administrationen, programansvarig Sjökaptensprogrammet, programansvarig
Sjöingenjörsprogrammet, kvalitetsadministratör/mötessekreterare samt kvalitetsansvarig. Vid behov
kan andra befattningshavare inom och utom Chalmers adjungeras. Efter genomförda auditeringar
skall ledningsgruppen utvärdera kvalitetssystemet. Uppföljningen ska minst omfatta nedanstående
punkter:
1. Genomgång av resultat från interna och externa revisioner.
2. Korrigerande och förebyggande åtgärder och de förbättringar dessa har medfört.
3. Genomgång av utvärderingar av andra organisationer med styrande funktioner på
utbildningen.
4. Synpunkter och krav från intressenter.
5. Värdering av kvaliteten på inköpta tjänster.
6. Genomgång av organisationen med avseende på kvalitet, bl.a. personal, tid och andra
resurser.
7. Genomgång av mål och måluppfyllelse
8. Kvalitetsmått
9. Ledningens bedömning av systemets effektivitet och lämplighet
10. Övriga frågor.
Till grund för genomgången ska ligga krav och önskemål från intressenter, protokoll från interna
och externa revisioner, dokumenterad uppföljning av kvalitetsmål, korrigerande åtgärder och
protokoll från sammanträden där frågor med avseende på kvaliteten behandlats. Sammanträden ska
protokollföras. Dokumentationen förvaras hos kvalitetsadministratören. Kvalitetsansvarig är
sammankallande och ansvarig för ledningsgruppens funktion.

Introduktionsveckor
Det första läsåret inleds med två introduktionsveckor. Under dessa veckor introduceras studenterna
till programmet och studiemiljön. Målet med introduktionsveckorna är att studenten skall ha en
uppfattning om sin kommande yrkesroll och dess historiska bakgrund, kunskap om de administrativa
system som används på Chalmers samt en kort repetition av viktiga matematiska begrepp såsom
algebra och trigonometri.

Progression och spärrkurser
Många kurser bygger på tidigare förvärvade kunskaper och färdigheter, vilket ger en progression i
utbildningen. För att förhindra studenter att läsa kurser i omvänd ordning finns ett antal spärrkurser,
d.v.s. kurser som spärrar för fortsatta studier om de inte är godkända innan kursstart av den mer
avancerade kursen.
Varvad teori och praktik
Transportstyrelsen kräver att teori och praktik skall varvas i utbildningen. Det finns därför krav på att
vissa kurser skall vara godkända innan studenten får påbörja ett visst praktikblock, samt kurser där
ett antal dagars fartygsförlagd utbildning krävs. Studenter som enbart läser de teoretiska kurserna
kan bortse från detta.

Utbildningen leder i de flesta fall till en fartygsbefälsbehörighet klass V och ett arbete som styrman
på fartyg. En stor del av arbetet innebär då att gå bryggvakt med ansvar för fartygets säkra
framförande. Denna process täcker kraven för bryggvakt på operational level.

Process: Sjösäkerhet
Det är av största vikt att fartyg framförs på ett säkert sätt, men olyckor kan inträffa och då är det
befälen ombord som leder och hanterar situationen. För detta krävs mycket utbildning och en
arbetsstruktur.
Situationen ombord kan definieras i tre sjösäkerhetsnivåer:
Normal
Arbetet ombord sköts enligt normala rutiner
Kritisk
Då något inträffar ombord som går utöver normala rutiner men som
ändå kan hanteras av besättningen ombord
Nöd
Ett nödsituation innebär att fartyget behöver assistans utifrån, från
annat fartyg eller från någon landorganisation
