Fly Fishing
Opening day has come and gone
and the snow gods got us again! Not
that I am complaining, we need the
water. The Rivers are in great shape
for now and the fishing should hold
pretty well for the months of May and
June but Stillwater fishing is going to be
our best option by the time we hit July...
we have no water! So, I would get out
and fish the rivers now while the going
is good and save the lake and pond
fishing for later in the Summer. Here is
the report!
East Carson River Fishing Report
The catch and release section below
Hangman’s Bridge: Off colored but
clearing and should start fishing well by
the beginning of May. Stoneflies, March
Browns, Micro Caddis and Crawdads!
The dry fly fishing should fill in as
it clears and the water temperatures
rise. Streamer fishing should work well
during the run-off period.
Above the Bridge, put and take
section: Heavily stocked and Fishing
well! Stoneflies, Egg Patterns, San
Juan Worms, Copper Johns and Black
Wooly Buggers.
West Carson River Fishing Report
River is in great shape and fishing
well. mixture of large fish and catchable.
Stonefly Nymphs, Clown Eggs, Large
Copper Johns, PT's and Buggers. Find
the fish is the challenge, best hint is to
look around the bridges!
West Walker River Fishing Report
Pickle Meadows should be the best
opportunity with the canyon section
a bit on the high side. Watch for the
little bit of run-off to off color the lower
sections. Streamers, Egg Patterns,
Stones and Big Mayfly imitations will do
the best.
Little Truckee River Fishing Report
The Flows are looking ok for now
with numerous fish in the system.
Watch for Spawning fish and please
leave them alone! Baetis are the best
with March Browns working as well.
Beetles, Ants and Rusty Spinners will
take a fish or two on the surface.
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report
Above the 267 Bridge: No water
coming out of Tahoe so you have to
get below some of the feeder creeks
for sufficient amounts of water. Should
fish ok through town butter better
downstream. Stones, Big Mayflies,
Baetis and Micro Caddis.
Year round section (CA) below 267
Bridge. The flows are low for this
time of the year but fishable. Crowds
have been a factor... try going down
stream into the canyon to get away
of the masses. Stones, Big Mayflies,
Baetis and Micro Caddis. Look for fish
coming up for Squallas and Possible
March Browns. The fish tend to be
concentrated so share the river if you
find them.
Truckee River (Nv) Fishing Report: Fish it while you can with the idea that
it might be gone before you know it.
Should fish well until the temperatures
start to effect it. Crawdads, Stones,
Streamers and Mayflies!
Tahoe Area Stillwater’s:
Pyramid Lake: Fishing is worth it
and better on stormy days. Should only
get better as we get into later Spring.
Take your chances and try for the 20
pound club, 10 pounds doesn’t seem
to make much of a splash any longer.
Buggers in two colors or a couple of
different Chironomid patterns under an
indicator. Every day is different, some
Victor Babbit
days they take the Beetle and some
the Chironomid and others the stripped
Bugger. Take a variety of bugs and give
it a shot!
Indian Creek Reservoir: Fishing
well! Blood Midges, Calibaetis and
Buggers. Float tubing gives you the
best access but shore fishing works.
The shallow end is favored when the
fish are cruising.
Caples Lake: The Lake is 80%
full and fishing well. Walking the shore
looking for the cruising fish is more fun!
Ant Patterns, Calibaetis, Streamers and
Blood Midges will work best.
Red Lake Fishing Report: The
lake looks pretty good... fish the upper
end for best results. Streamers, Blood
Midges and San Juan Worms. Evenings
can produce dry fly opportunities.
Spooner Lake Fishing Report Smaller fish but plenty of them.
Leeches, Blood Midges and Ants.
Stop by the shop for more up to
date reports and further details, we can
set you up with whatever you might
need for a wonderful day on the water!
Good luck fishing and enjoy your
surroundings. 530-541-8208

biggest names to the market. Yonder
Mountain, The Devil Makes Three,
Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon
Rangers just to name a few. This
year, we are pleased to present the
1st Annual Lake Tahoe Bluegrass
Festival, Saturday, July 11 at the

Ziggy Marley and Trombone
Shorty will co-headline an evening
of amazing music at the Hard Rock
Outdoor, Thursday, July 30.
Singer
and songwriter Ziggy Marley is the
oldest son of the reggae giant Bob
Paul Reder
Marley, and is best known as a talented
reggae musician in his own right. As the
son of reggae legend Bob Marley, Ziggy
Marley made a name for himself as one
of the genre's leading artists. Ziggy and
his siblings formed the band Melody
Makers in 1981 after their father's
death. Their 1988 album,Conscious
Party, won a Grammy and helped the
group break through to mainstream
audiences. After a few more successful
albums with the band, Marley began
a solo career in 2006. New Orleans
native Trombone Shorty began his
career as a bandleader at the young
age of six, toured internationally at age
12, and spent his teens playing with
various brass bands throughout New
Orleans and touring worldwide with
Lenny Kravitz. He fronts Trombone
Shorty & Orleans Avenue, a funk/
rock/jazz/hip-hop band. Together they
have toured across the U.S., Europe,
Australia, Russia, Japan and Brazil.
Tickets for the powerful combo are
just $40.00 and available online at

Comedy From The Mountain
Everyone’s life matters be it all
colors and gender (and those inbetween) and religion to whatever is
human (except terrorists). I’d like to add
that comics’ lives matter too. Oh sure,
as far as I know we’re not getting killed
by law enforcement but those who insist
on being politically correct, get offended
way too easily or just hate laughter
altogether (and you know who you are)
are effecting our livelihood by bitching
about everything. I don’t know why
some people even bother going to a
comedy club trying to dissect every little
joke to find something that is offensive
and then bitch about it. In the future
please avoid all comedy venues and do
us both a favor.
So, I’m watching the Daily Show
with Jon Stewart and who was his guest
at the conclusion of the show? Todd
Glass that’s who! He was on promoting
his memoir, “The Todd Glass Situation:
A Bunch of Lies about My Personal Life
and a Bunch of True Stories about My
30-Year Career in Stand-Up Comedy.”
Todd made his mark early opening for
literally every headlining act out there
by the age of eighteen and still opens
for a lot of his big time friends on the
road. He opened for Sarah Silverman
the last time he was up here over at
MontBleu Casino and before that David
Spade over at Harrah’s. Todd makes no
apologies when, at the age of forty-eight
decided to finally live openly as a gay
man and that is chronicled in his memoir
that includes reactions and support from
his comedy pals ranging from Louis CK
to Sarah Silverman. He talked about
the last time he was here on my radio
show and said he was just tired of
hearing about others being bullied just
because they were gay. Sa mentioned
earlier support has been pretty much all
in the positive for Todd. Glass has his
own podcast (“The Todd Glass Show)
on the Nerdist network in addition to all
the stuff he does relating to his stand up
career. It’s been too long and glad he’s
back up here. Appearing with Glass is
Daniel Kinno and both launch this
month May 6th through the 10th.
This is Tommy Savitt’s first time
back in two years. It seems like only
yesterday the first time I saw him
he won the ‘Best New Comedians’
competition beating out some pretty
top-notch acts at the Boston Comedy
Festival. The following year Tommy won
top honors at the Seattle-International
Comedy Competition and was honored
for the “Best In Comedy” category at
the 2009 and 2012 LA Comedy Awards.
Tommy has been seen on WGN's “The
Bob & Tom Show,” SI Tv's “Funny is
Funny,” Comcast On Demand’s “Man
up, Stand-Up” on mav.tv and on JLTV’s
“James and Sunda.” Tommy’s comedy
CD “Who Wants Me Now?” is one of the
top requested on satellite radio. Tommy
has gone through several comedic
incarnations and is so committed
to each one he plays that he never
breaks character. His latest is that as
the spiritual guru, motivational speaker
“The Tommy Lama” by his best one yet.
Of course he’ll tell you he’s always been
‘that guy’ and that the other characters
were just stepping stones to who he is
now. What cracks me up even more
was that before all of this he was a
lawyer! Yes, a military lawyer, a Judge
Advocate General (JAG)! But that was
short lived as was his time in the military
and he probably knew that because at
boot camp on Paris Island, S.C., Tommy
was too busy cutting everybody up with
jokes trying to keep things light and
lively for his fellow recruits (much to the
dismay of drill instructors). Eventually
he and the Marines had an amicable
parting of ways. As Tommy put it, “I got
in great shape, though. I was the most
in-shape law student ever, “Savitt says.
“As I was leaving my drill sergeant pulled
me aside, and berated me, telling me
what a failure I was, how incompetent
I was, how I was a quitter, that some
unfortunate woman was going to marry
me and bear me a child. Then he winked
at me and said, “Don't be a lawyer, be
a comedian, Savitt.'” Sometimes it pays
to get your orders from your superior
ya know? He still remains in touch
with his military performing at bases
around the globe which include shows
in Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay,
Germany, Belgium, Japan, South Korea
and the Netherlands. I can’t imagine
what kind of officer Tommy would have
turned but to be but sure glad he took the
comedic route so we could all see his
humor in a comedy club environment.
All I know is that, as the Tommy Lama
he now has given countless others
spiritual guidance. Appearing with the
Tommy Lama we have the very funny
Francis Dilorinzo and both are up here
the week of May 20th through the 24th.
Another guy who hasn’t been up
here in a while is Scott Henry. He’s
been busy doing movies his latest,
“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” as the role of
Agent Jenkins. I liked the movie but
wanted to hear some of the voices that
he does because they are hilarious!
Although he doesn’t use these voices
in his stage act Scott will incorporate
them when accenting a funny set up.
On radio he’ll bring out the voices that
have different accents depending on
what part of the country he deems
should be heard first. I tend to hear the
Midwest a lot probably because Scott’s
originally from Wisconsin. His comedy
was the ticket out but first Scott had to
Howie Nave
do open mic nights, host events for
free and get as much stage time as
possible. You have to remember he
was doing this while maintaining a
job as a machinist (which his father
also was). He didn’t keep that job
for long once he started winning
comedy competitions around thew
state. A year later he left Milwaukee
for good and never looked back.
Scott still incorporates his family
upbringing as part of his act as a
reminder of where he came from
and to this day keeps him grounded.
It’s also reminder how fleeting this
line of work can be sometimes. His
body of work is impressive having
appeared on Comedy Central,
The King Of Queens, Chelsea
Lately and Sports Soup to name a
few. And remember those voices I
referenced earlier? Those voices
have been heard in over one
hundred plus commercials he’s done
for companies like Net-Flix, Michelob,
Toyota, Argent, Ingram Micro and
Wells Fargo. Scott has also performed
for Fortune 500 companies such 3M,
Verizon, Lexus and many more. David
Janollari, former President of the WB
Network said that, “Scott is one of
the top comedians working today.”
Performing with Scott and making his
debut up here is Matt Knudsen. I don’t
know too much about Matt but he too
is an actor working in community plays
and made the transition to comedy
where he’s been doing quite well which
is why he finally got a date booked up
here. Check out Matt and Scott May
27th through the 31st.
Howie Nave is the host/emcee/
manager of The Improv @ Harveys
every Wednesday through Sunday
and also hosts his own morning show
(“Howie’s Morning Rush”) on KRLT
93-9 The Lake M-F 6-10am. You can
hear Howie’s High Sierra Comedy
Vault podcast by going to www.
