BIBLE LANDS NOTES: Cana
1
Cana
Cana probably derives from the Hebrew word “kanah”, which means “reed.”
The Cana of Galilee has been identified with two different places today.
1. Kefr Kenna: Located about four miles northeast of Nazareth.
2. Khirbet Qana about four to five miles further on from Kefr Kenna.
Note: Like many other sites in Israel, it is not possible to be absolutely
certain as to which is the true location of the New Testament Cana.

Jesus performed His first miracle in Cana by turning the water into wine at

- Six stone jars of water.
- Each jar held some twenty to thirty gallons of water.
Jesus healed the nobleman’s son. According to John 4:54 this was the
Lord’s second miracle. John 4:46-54 The nobleman and his son lived in
Capernaum, some sixteen miles away.
Cana was the home of Nathaniel. John 21:2
