MISSISSIPPI RIVERKINGS
GAME NOTES
FEBRUARY 8, 2013
LAST TIME WE MET: The RiverKings and IceGators saw each other a month ago today when they met at the Landers Center on
January 8. The game went scoreless into a shootout when Matthew Robertson and Shawn McNeil beat David Wilson to give the
IceGators a 1-0 shootout victory. Wilson stopped all 27 shots he faced during regulation and overtime, while Riley Gill turned
aside 38 shots during regulation and overtime, while stopping four RiverKings’ shooters in the shootout.
RIVERKINGS NOTES: The RiverKings come into tonight’s game after falling on Tuesday to Pensacola in overtime. After two late
goals by Matt Harrington and Mike MacDonald, the ‘Kings forced overtime, but Steve Bergin found the back of the net to give the
Ice Flyers the victory. The ‘Kings are, once again, without defenseman Tyler Sheldrake who is serving the second game of a twogame suspension.
ICEGATORS NOTES: The IceGators are coming off of a 2-0 victory at home against the Mississippi Surge. Riley Gill collected his
fifth shutout this season, while Matt Robertson’s power play goal late in the first gave the ‘Gators the lead and never looked back.
Former RiverKing Matt Miller added an empty-net goal to seal the win. The win gives Louisiana three in a row after a four-game
losing streak ended the month of January.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: MISSISSIPPI – LW Matt Whitehead (15-16-31) has six points over his last five games, including two power play goals in the 2-0 victory over the Surge. G David Wilson has earned the team points in five of his last six games started
between the pipes. RW Todd Hosmer (15-17-32) has four points through five games against the Ice Flyers and has five points over
his last five games.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: LOUISIANA - LW Matt Robertson (20-18-38) picked up his third goal in as many games last night and has
points in three straight games. The second-year forward currently ranks fifth in the SPHL in points. RW Robert Short (11-30-41)
has seven points (2G, 5A) in six games against the RiverKings this season. C Marc-Andre Carre (9-8-17) has three points in four
games against the ‘Kings, including a two-goal effort on November 10.
RIVERKINGS SCHEDULE: Following tonight’s game, the RiverKings hit the road to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths
tomorrow night. The action starts at 6:30 p.m., broadcasting live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network.
Next Thursday night, the RiverKings travel to Biloxi to take on the Surge before battling the IceGators at the Cajundome on
Friday night. Both games air live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network at 7:05 p.m. The ‘Kings return to
the Landers Center on Saturday night, February 16, for a rematch against Louisiana.
ICEGATORS SCHEDULE: The IceGators complete their three-in-three weekend tomorrow night in Huntsville against the Havoc.
The two teams meet again on Friday, February 15 in Louisiana.
SEASON SERIES: The RiverKings enter tonight’s game with the third-best record in the SPHL against Louisiana, posting a 2-2-2
mark. Louisiana is 4-2-0 against the RiverKings, winning both of the shootout contests.
PLAYOFF WATCH: The RiverKings’ magic number holds at 13, with any combination of 13 RiverKings’ wins and Augusta losses
clinching a playoff berth.
