May 31, 2015 - St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church
The Most Holy Trinity
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, usually shortened to Trinity Sunday,
comes each year a week after Pentecost. With the coming of the Holy Spirit,
God’s revelation of himself was complete. It is the one feast that celebrates
God’s own divine being The apostles and the other first Christians were
Jewish, like Jesus himself, and held fast to the Old Testament revelation that
there is only one God. But they also came to know that Jesus was more than
just an amazing leader. They realized that he was God in human form, and that
realization was sealed by his Resurrection. And when the Holy Spirit came
upon them after the Ascension, they recognized that God was still working
among them, even though Jesus had gone to heaven.
There had been hints of the Trinity throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry. He had
referred to God as his Father, with whom he is united but still distinct. He had taught about the Holy Spirit, who
would be with his followers as a personal agent, not just as a force. The union was clearly in evidence at Jesus’
Baptism, when the Father announced that Jesus is his Son, and the Holy Spirit descended to strengthen him.
St. Athanasius, who lived in the 300s, said “We acknowledge the Trinity, Holy and perfect, to consist of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is a wholly creative and energizing reality, self confident and undivided
in its active power. Accordingly, in the Church, one God is preached, one God who is above all things and
through all things and in all things.”
The mystery of the Holy Trinity is for most of us beyond our comprehension. How can there be three separate
entities; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - yet all be the same God? Because it is difficult for us to
fully grasp, this is a basic part of our Catholic faith. You may recall that St. Patrick explained it to the Irish by
holding up a shamrock, which had three leaves. He pointed out that there were three distinct leaves, but only
one shamrock. God is three Persons in one nature. To sum it up, the three persons of God - Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit; are all equally God, and they cannot be divided.
“Go . . . and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19

For parish verification, required for baptisms, marriages, religious
education class participation and Catholic school admittance, a person
must be registered in the Parish, attend Mass regularly, and be
involved in discipleship (time, talent, and treasure). Participation in
our Parish offertory is the primary means we have for this verification
(please use offertory envelopes or online services to ensure that your
financial contributions are recognized). If you are unable to
contribute financially, please make a notation of your prayerful
support on your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We
will then be aware of your continued participation.

Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan
On April 16, Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory unveiled the
Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan after two years of preparation.
The plan outlines the 14 priorities chosen as most critical
by the laity, priests, religious and deacons of our Catholic
community.
Visit www.stjudeatlanta.net for more details including a
video about the plan and links to the plan details. The
April 16 edition of The Georgia Bulletin also has a
special section on the Pastoral Plan.
Ministry Catalog Sponsors Needed
Each year we produce a Ministry Catalog that is sent to all of
our parishioners. This catalog provides detailed descriptions
about each of our ministries and the many opportunities that
we have to share our skills and talents with our parish and
the community. In order to produce this catalog, we need
sponsors to purchase ads. If you, as a business owner, or the
company you work for may be interested in purchasing an
ad, please contact Carol Cuviello with J.S. Paluch at

Tim Nadolski, son of parishioners
Nancy and Bob Nadolski, a 2003
St. Jude graduate, who is now a
Deacon at Pontifical College
Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.
Throughout his time in the
seminary, we have been praying for
Tim and he has assisted with Masses at Saint Jude when
he is in Atlanta. Tim's studies are now nearing an end
and he will be ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of
Atlanta next month. We are all so excited and couldn't be
more proud of Tim!
Deacon (soon to be Father) Tim will celebrate his first
Mass at our parish on Sunday, June 28 at 2:30PM - all are
invited! A reception will follow in the Stapleton Center.
To celebrate his ordination and first Mass, we want to
help him with the cost of purchasing vestments and
sacred vessels. If you wish to contribute to our gift for
Deacon Tim, you can make your non-tax deductible gift

minds, hearts and spirits. Light refreshments will be
provided. We hope you can join us!

Nocturnal Adoration
Feast of Corpus Christi
Friday, June 5
Special Eucharistic Procession - Sunday, June 7
Our Nocturnal Adoration Society meets the first Friday of
each month to participate in vigil prayer in the Adoration
Chapel. The society consists of teams that pray for one
hour, spending time in His Eucharistic presence. Each
month, each team moves forward an hour. Each hour can
have different readings and prayers.
We invite you to join us for an hour and pray with us in
the presence of the Blessed Sacrament between the hours
of 9:00PM on Friday, June 6 until 8:00AM on
Saturday. If you find this time deepens your personal
relationship with God, you are welcome to join a team.
For more information, please contact Glen Smith at
[email protected] or 404-661-6864.
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ is also known as the
Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which
translates from Latin to "Body of
Christ." This feast originated in France
in the mid-thirteenth century and was
extended to the whole Church by Pope
Urban IV in 1264. This feast calls us to focus on two
manifestations of the Body of Christ, the Holy Eucharist
and the Church. As Catholics, we believe that the
historical event of Jesus' Last Supper, described in each of
the four Gospels, is one of the greatest mysteries of our
holy faith. During that evening, the Lord Jesus, while he
ate with his disciples, took bread, blessed it, broke the
bread and gave it to them saying: “Take; this is my body”.
He then took the cup, gave thanks and gave it to them.
And all drank from it. “This is my blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many”. The doctrine of the
solemn feast of Corpus Christi is expressed in these
purposes: 1) to give God collective thanks for Christ’s
abiding presence with us in the Eucharist and to honor
him there; 2) to instruct the people in the mystery, faith
and devotion surrounding the Eucharist; and 3) to teach us
to appreciate and make use of the great gift of the Holy
Eucharist, both as a sacrament and as a sacrifice.
The Feast of Corpus Christi is commonly used as an
opportunity for public Eucharistic processions, which
serves as a sign of common faith and adoration. Our
worship of Jesus in His Body and Blood calls us to offer
to God our Father a pledge of undivided love and an offering of ourselves to the service of others. We invite you
to join us on Sunday, June 7 for a special procession
before the 10:00AM Mass. We hope you can join us in
our special celebration of God’s greatest gift to us.
Father’s Day Novena
On the nine days following Father’s Day,
living and deceased fathers will be
remembered during our weekday 7:30AM
daily Mass, Saturday 8:30AM daily Mass
and 7:00AM Sunday Mass. To include a name in the
novena, special novena packets are available in the church
vestibule and includes a card you can send to your loved
one. You can also fill out the Father’s Day envelope in
your monthly collection mailing. Please return your
envelope and monetary donation in the offertory or to the
parish office. All envelopes will be placed under the altar
for the duration of the novena.
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2015
Thank you to all of our parishioners who have donated to
the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. This year, the
theme of the Appeal is, “All this I Do For The Sake Of The
Gospel.” As Catholics, we are called to give of ourselves to
help spread the good news of the Gospel. A monetary
donation is a concrete way to act in gratitude and to help
bring heaven down to earth for those right here in our
diocese and in our own parish. Your gifts to the Appeal not
only fund the operations of the Archdiocese, it also funds
services that are of great help to the ministries here in our
parish. After we reach our Annual Appeal goal of $190,800,
the archdiocese returns 100% of any overage back to our
parish. To participate, please pick up a pledge card in the
church or at the parish office or visit our website.

deste mundo. A castidade era símbolo de pureza –
inclusive para os casados. Eles negavam o matrimônio, a
hierarquia eclesiástica e a encarnação de Jesus. Diziam
A igreja ficou
começaram a cair. O corporal ficou ensanguentado. Ainda
hoje as marcas podem ser vistas porque ficaram
impregnadas no mármore. O papa enviou um bispo e este
pegou a hóstia e o corporal para levar a ele. Enquanto
do sol.
