Crystal Clear Water
TIP Growing flowering annuals successfully in the
subtropics depends on timing, you've got to get them in
& up and flowering before the really hot weather comes.
Planting
« Work a complete organic fertiliser into the soil.
« When planting keep them the same depth as in
the pot or punnet.
« Place plants closely together so they will fill in
the whole area.
« Once planted water them in with a seaweed extract
as this helps them overcome transplant shock.
« As they grow give them a drink of soluble fertiliser
for flowering plants.
« Water early in the morning as a disease prevention
strategy, not in the evening.
« To prolong flowering deadhead spent flowers on a
regular basis-this will keep them flowering for longer.
Flowering plants add vibrancy and gives a home a
welcoming, happy feeling like nothing else can!

fish of the month Shubunkin
Similar in body shape to comet goldfish, shubunkins have calico
colouring, which contains red, gold purple, blue, black and white hues.
Shubunkins with more blue colouration are more valuable. Shubunkins
are an extremely hardy variety of
goldfish and will survive in the
same conditions as the common
goldfish. They are fast and agile
swimmers and make excellent
pond fish. Shubunkins need
adequate swimming space in an
aquarium. Shubunkins are ravenous
eaters so produce a substantial
amount of waste so good filtration is important for the aquarium or
pond. Shubunkins should not be with slower swimming fish as they
will not get adequate food. Shubunkin spawn regularly, monitor
population levels to avoid problems that may arise from too many fish.
Choose a shubunkin that has a long, flowing and deeply forked tail &
the coloured pattern that appeals to you.
