Santa Marta has activities for everyone present: be seduced by the
streets of the oldest city in Colombia, live the emotions of
adventure sports and swimming with dolphins, among many
others.
TAYRON NATIONAL NATURAL
PARK
A sanctuary of nature and archaeological remains that invite the encounter with oneself.
Ecosystems such as mangroves, corals, seagrass beds, thorn scrub and magical dry, humid and
cloud forests proliferate and are home to an amazing variety of plant and animal species that
bear witness to life. White sandy beaches that retain a special environment natural character.
In this park you can practice the sighting of flora and fauna, especially birds in danger of
extinction. In addition to its natural and archaeological attractions, Tayrona National Park is a
good scenario for ecotourism thanks to its exotic beaches wave that differs from one to another
and even their suitable for diving areas, the three most popular are: Bay Concha, a beautiful
resort with cabins and restaurants; Neguanje and Canaveral with its camping area and
delicious beaches amidst lush nature. The stone paths leading from the beaches to the
Chairama, now known as Pueblito, are also tours by tourists as one of its main attractions.
Places of Interest
Cabo San Juan
Cabo San Juan de Guia, in the Tayrona National Park,
can be reached from the sector Reef along a path
through the jungle or following a route along the
beach on huge volcanic rocks. At the end is a perfect
camping on the shores of the Caribbean, where
travelers from around the world gather to celebrate in
the sun.
Tayronaka Natural Reserve
In Taironaka Natural Reserve, located at km 58 of the
road leading to Riohacha, you may notice the cultural
and historical significance of the Tayrona culture.
There restored terraces where Indians built their
houses and an archaeological museum with original
pieces remain. For Koguis, direct descendants of the
Tayrona, the area is of great importance.
Cañaveral
Canaveral beach, located in the Tayrona National
Park is characterized by its vegetation. It has a special
area for camping, a restaurant and has a housing area
whose housing units called 'ecohabs' tayrona emulate
the typical housing and develop a functional system
of natural ventilation.
Neguanje
Neguanje Bay is in the Tayrona National Park and
offers tourists one of the beaches with softer sand of
the region: Playa Cristal. Here just need a mask for
diving surface and see life under the sea. This point is
located about 12 kilometers north of Santa Marta.
Playa Chengue
Chengue beach in the Tayrona National Park, is
located in an area of tropical dry forest. It has a salt
marsh old and full of life that make it a good
destination for birdwatchers. Here you arrive by sea
or by an ecological path. Perhaps this is one of the
least crowded beaches of the park.
Quebrada Valencia
Bathing in wells with water flowing from the Sierra
Nevada de Santa Marta is possible in the gorge
Valencia, in the west of Tayrona National Park, where
several natural waterfalls. To reach these waterfalls
runs for thirty minutes overland trail that passes
through the gorge Valencia.
Pueblito
Pueblito is one of the most representative sites of the
Tayrona culture. This place of Tayrona National Park
has terraced coated on the outside by retaining walls;
also it has stone constructions annular, internal roads
of large carved slabs, stairs and bridges built in stone
with different types of design and degree of
processing.
La Piscina
La Piscina is one of the few beaches with calm waters
in the Tayrona National Park. The calm that sit there
to float smoothly over the water surface is because the
area is surrounded by a barrier of rocks that prevent
heavy waves from entering this site. Here it is
advisable to go for a swim.
Gayraca Bay
Gayraca bay in Tayrona National Park, has in
common with several of its neighboring beaches an
arena of very fine grain which is surrounded by the
intense green vegetation. The main beach is 518 m
long and 18 m wide and is only interrupted by the
mouth of a temporary creek. The bay is a nature
conservation area where you can snorkel.
Mamancana Reserve
Emotions are not lacking in Santa Marta.
Mamancana, a reserve of 600 hectares of dry tropical
forest located on the road between the city and the
Simon Bolivar Airport, is ideal for those who enjoy
the contact with nature. There, besides ride, visitors
can watch birds and adventure sports including rock
climbing are the 'canopy' and paragliding.
Minca
Seventeen kilometers from Santa Marta to Minca
tourists find a transition zone between the warm
weather and mild. It is a quiet town that has been
exploited for there to carry out activities aimed at the
wellbeing of body and mind, including bathrooms in
streams, as well as bird watching and other species.
Ciudad Perdida
Getting to Lost City is an unforgettable adventure.
Built around 700 d. C., is the most important urban
center of ancient civilization Tayrona and one of the
most important archaeological sites of research in this
culture. There are circular plazas, stairs, stone roads
and canals.
