A CHRISTMAS GIFT
"CHRISTMAS GIFT A FAMILY TREAT"
"…interspersed with spritely dancing and poetry,
A CHRISTMAS GIFT is both enjoyable and
cultivated. With costumes and masks, they tell
stories in a wonderfully original way – gifts given
taken on an entirely new meaning. What better
way to show the meaning of Christmas than to
share memorable stories…"
THE CALGARY SUN
from THE LEGEND OF OLD BEFANA
FOR GRADES ECS - 6
"There's a rat in Alberta. He's big, he has a long,

THEME [describe in one sentence]: This show is a multicultural celebration of Christmas!
CONTENT [brief description of pieces in show]: A CHRISTMAS GIFT is a look at many stories, dances, carols, poems and theatre pieces from around the world, mostly the Western, European World, but none-the-less
international in scope. A Rat, the only one in or from Alberta, dances a wild Trepak; “The Legend of Old Befana”
romps through the audiences with her frantic broom dusting even the heads of unsuspecting audience-members; a Jingle-Bell Horse dances its clip-clop way into the audiences’ hearts. It’s a show for and about Christmas
and what it means to give, not tangible things, but the intangible gifts of enjoyment, caring and sharing.
GOAL [what is the purpose of this show]: To put a real meaning back into Christmas without preaching.
POINT OF VIEW OF ARTISTS [brief description]: That Christmas is fun, an optimistic time for real sharing
of feelings and hopes and dreams, a time for feeling good about everyone.
CLASSIFICATION [i.e.: ADULT, FESTIVAL, FAMILY, YOUNG AUDIENCE]: Festival and Family audiences.
Also available in school version of 50-minutes.
PRESENTATION [skills used to present show]: Magnificent costumes, lively dances, singing, theatre skills,
story-telling, projections [depends on version on tour], a Victorian-like, pop-up Christmas-card-like set in deep
green velvet hung with garlands of silver and holly, topped with a sparkling globe of twinkling Christmas lights,
handsome animal masks, beautifully detailed hand props – all go into making this show a visual and heartwarming experience.
TARGET AUDIENCE [i.e.: Seniors, multi-cultural groups, etc.]: Festival and Family audiences, young people and all those young at heart. We have noticed, over the years, that seniors greatly love this show.
CAST [see Bios]: Robert Greenwood (actor) and [Mr.] Dana Luebke (dancer-actor)
LANGUAGE(S) IN WHICH SHOW IS PERFORMED: English; songs in French, German and Spanish
