A Message From
Nettie B. Scott
Greetings-Gamma Upsilon Psi Society is presenting its 12th Annual Cotillion. This
Cotillion is a joy for all of us, a
time for celebrating and an occasion
for looking back with satisfaction
and pride~ We are celebrating a notable accomplishment. Our celebration
is an example of enduring worthiness
and determination, This is a time to
give thanks, remember our past laurels and expres$ing gratitude to those
who brought us to this place in time.
Therefore, it is imperative that you
continue to support the Cotillion.
We can only make this a better world
in which to live when ALL children
have the OPPORTUNITY to receive an
education they rightfully deserve.
The Gammas have been indeed blessed
with good fortunes. The dynamic leadership, dedicated membership and diversified resources have been united
to impact the quality of life and improve the status of Black womanhood.
Yes, this is a debutante ball, introducing the "cream of the crop" to
you, the Champaign-Urbana community.
But our main thrust is the education
of these young women ..• scholarship
and academics.
We thank you for your generous contributions. Take pride in the fact
that you have assisted over 100, fine
young Black women in reaching their
goals. As you celebrate, however,
remember that the Reagan administration is reducing the number of funds
available for grants and loans.
These cutbacks affect lower-income
students as well as children of the
once-stable middle class. Schools
themselves can only provide a few
scholarships each year. And tuition
and fees at many well-known universities will exceed $7,500 commencing
with the 1983-1984 academic year.
So ENJOY the delicious dinner pre~
pared for you ... ENJOY the Cotillion,
the dances the debs and escorts have
dilligently rehearsed for the pas~
10 weeks ... ENJOY the music of the
band "Straight from the Streets"
and dance until you can dance no
more .. '. ENJOY "The Other Side of the
Rainbow" where, dreams do come true.'
Thank you,
~3.~~-rl3

D~ar Angie: It's been both an honor and a pleasure, along
with a blessing to watch over you and see you grow up to
become the beautiful and very special young lady you are.
We have come to think of you .as one of our own. The good
times and the not so good times shared by all of us have
only served to bring us as close to each other as we now
are. The kids all think of you as their "big sister" and
I think of you as my oldest daughter. My love for you is
as strong as my love is for my very own children.
I will
continue to pray that God will bless you to forever be the
Angie that we all know and love. And whatever you do, or
set out to aocomplish, put God at the head of your life and
everything will blossom into whatever you plant your seeds
of life -for. Always remember that I am here for you, when
you feel there is no one else ... because I love and care
for you to the utmost.
Love Always, The Brownlees--Shirley, Terry,
Shaundra, Vria, Dresha and "Punchie"

The full measure of man is not
solely determined by the impact
of accomplishments alone, nor is
his worth weighed only in numbers.
For all he can accomplish is his
personal best and it is not the
regularity of attempts that
counts, but the intensity of
each endeavor.
ne the best at whatever you do
Earnestly strive to see it through
Sometimes as hard as it may seem
~ake hold of faith and hold fast to your dreams
match and never cease to pray
3n His abiding love you will never go astray
Some~imes
up and sometimes down
Bills of success are yours to climb
Ever climbing it round and round
Success is yours and glory bound
Love ya,

God took a piece of clay, and gently pressed
it day by day, and molded it with power and
art to yield a young child's heart. You can
teli the type of person you are dealing with,
by the way they treat children. You see the
small child do~sn't know any better than to
give it IS lov'e without looking for anything
in return. You better be careful how you
treat children, Jesus said, "But who so
shall offend one of these little ones which
believes in me, it were better for him that
a millstone were hanged about his neck, and
that he were drowned in the depth of the
sea. II (Matthew 18: 6)

TO AN OUTSTANDING BLACK YOUNG LADY-God moves in a mysterious way
His wonder to perform~
He plants his footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.
Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never-fading skill,
He treasurer up His bright designs
And works His sovereign will
Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take
The cloud ye, so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessing on your head.
Judge not the Lord by feeble sens,
Bu~ thrust Him for His grace;
Behlnd a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
His purpose will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste
But sweet will be the flower.
Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan His work in vain.
God is His own interpreter
And He will make it plain.

Dare to be different and to follow
Forget what you have done for your friends, and remember what they have
done for you. Disregard what the world owes you, and concentrate on
what you owe the world.
When.you are faced with a decision, make that decision as wisely as
posslble--then forget it. The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.
Above all, remember that God helps those
wh? help themselves. Act as if everythlng depended upon you, and pray as if
everything depended upon God.
