Picture information strip:
To prepare you for your visit to Polka we have put together a synopsis, this is to help you
understand the story that you are about to see and to know what to expect during the
performance.
We have adapted the show slightly by having fewer people watching and you can also
choose which seat you sit in. We have lowered the sound and lighting levels and throughout
the performance the auditorium will have the main lights dimmed instead of being in
complete darkness.
There is also a designated ‘chill out area’ outside the auditorium that can be used at any
time throughout the show.

This is a picture of the Chill Out Area;
There are lots of teddy bears to look at and play with.
This is a picture of the Exhibition Area or Foyer;
There are rocking horses, a dressing up box and a colouring in corner.

Characters
This show is uses puppets as well as performers; you will be able to see the performers
moving the puppets.

Emma the Rat
First half of the show:
Moominmamma is knitting and Moominpappa is still hungry after dinner.
Snork Maiden and Moomintroll are playing. Little My comes out from hiding in the Sewing
Basket.
An earthquake opens a hole in the ground. A giant wave washes towards them. Their house
is flooded. They all hide on the roof of the house.
In the morning the water is still surrounding the house. Moomintroll dives in to find
everyone breakfast.

Misabel floats past on a raft. She climbs onto the roof.
A theatre floats past.

They all jump onto the theatre and tie it to a tree.
Snork Maiden and Misabel explore the theatre and dress up in different costumes.
Moomintroll and Snork Maiden climb into the tree
Moominpappa and Moominmamma meet Emma the Rat who works at the theatre.
Emma sees the theatre is tied to a tree. Moomintroll and Snork Maiden are still sitting in the
tree. Emma does not see them in the tree.

Emma unties the theatre and it floats away with Moominmamma and Moominpappa.
Moomintroll and Snork Maiden use the branch as a raft to float on to look for the floating
theatre.
Little My is floating in the water.
Snufkin is fishing and he catches Little My.
They start to look for Moomintroll and Snork Maiden.
Moomintroll and Snork Maiden look for Snufkin and Little My.
Snufkin and Little My meet the Hemulen Policeman who tells them they can’t play games,
or wear hats or shriek!
The Hemulen Policeman puts up signs with rules. Snufkin and Little My rip the signs down.

Moomintroll and Snork Maiden find the signs and light a bonfire.
There is now a 15 minute interval. During the interval you can:

Second half of the show:
Emma tells Moominpappa and Moominmamma about the theatre. They decide to put on a
play.
Moominpappa writes a play.

Moomintroll and Snork Maiden have been arrested by the Hemulen Policeman. They have
been arrested for lighting a bonfire.
Moominpappa, Moominmamma, Misabel and Emma are getting the play ready. A large
Marketing Bird takes leaflets to everyone in Moomivalley.
The marketing bird help Moomintroll and Snork Maiden escape.
Access Note: They give out leaflets to the audience.
Hemulen Policeman finds a leaflet. He thinks he will catch Moomintropp and Snork Maiden
at the show.

Snufkin and Little My find a leaflet, they decide to go to see it so they can see Moomintroll.
The audience arrive for the show.
Snufkin and Little My arrive.
The show starts.
Misabel is performing in the play. In the play there is a Lion.
Little My is watching in the audience. She jumps onto the stage to save Misabel from the
Lion as she doesn’t know that it is just pretend.

The audience love it and the show is a success.
Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden arrive on a boat. The Hemulen Policeman catches them but
Little My helps them get free.
The Moomin all go home.
This is the end of the play.
