Who is Koresh Dance?
Koresh Dance Company was founded in 1991 by
Israeli-born choreographer and artistic director
Ronen (Roni) Koresh. Known for its engaging
performance and technically superb dancers, the
company's critically acclaimed work continues to
attract increasing audiences. With bi-annual
seasons in Philadelphia and performances
around the country, Koresh has received much
local and national recognition. The company has
been hailed internationally, touring to
destinations including Spain, Turkey, Israel,
South Korea, Mexico and Guatemala. Over the
years, Roni has developed a vast repertoire of
work that ranges from explosive and passionate,
to intimate and restrained. The company also
presents work by guest choreographers
including Ohad Naharin, Robert Battle, Donald
Byrd, Itzik Galili and Paul Selwyn Norton.
as at Koresh Artist Showcases throughout the
year.
In addition to performance and instruction,
Koresh Dance Company is equally committed to
community building and outreach. While on
tour, the company provides diverse outreach
offerings that connect with dancers and nondancers alike. Activities include postperformance
discussions,
residencies,
lecture/demonstrations and master classes. At
home, Koresh Kids Dance brings arts education
to underserved children by creating partnerships
with Philadelphia public schools and providing
free weekly dance classes for their students. This
program gives children invaluable tools that can
be used in all aspects of their lives.
Opened in 1993, the Koresh School of Dance
serves as the company's home and remains
dedicated to its goal of being a dance training
center for the Philadelphia community. Located
in the heart of Center City, the studio has daily
classes for both children and adults, whether
they are beginners or professionals. Over 60
classes are offered a week in styles such as jazz,
ballet, pointe, hip hop, modern, and tap.
In 2008, the Koresh Youth Ensemble was
established to give serious, young dancers more
intensive training and greater performance
opportunities. Students who demonstrate both
the talent and desire to become professionals
are selected to join the group. Under the
direction of Melissa Rector, assistant artistic
director of Koresh Dance Company, members
have the opportunity to learn original
choreography and company repertory. They
typically perform during the company's home
seasons at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, as well
Another element of our community outreach
programming is the Koresh Artist Showcase. The

choreographers alongside the company, giving
artists in the community the opportunity to
perform their work at no cost and to connect
with a wider audience. Whether on the road or
at home, Koresh Dance Company is making it
known to the world that Philadelphia fosters
creativity and artistic excellence!
Who do we serve?
Koresh Dance Company is fully dedicated to the enrichment of the cultural landscape and artistic
reputation of Philadelphia. It is important to us to sustain a group of dancers and an administrative staff
on salary, so that we can fully dedicate ourselves to our mission.
We serve our mission in three ways:
Performance
The Koresh Dance Company strives to be an artistic
force by creating innovative and emotional dance
performances for audiences in Philadelphia and
around the nation. The company’s original dance
pieces break through boundaries of traditional
choreography and offer audiences an exciting
experience.
Instruction
The Koresh School of Dance offers classes and
workshops to adults and children in the
Philadelphia community. Our classes provide
students with an introduction to dance and offer
beginners through professionals a means of
artistic expression. Through these programs, we
identify and develop new dance performers and
choreographers and thus further enhance the
artistic talent in Philadelphia.
Community Outreach
The Koresh Kids Dance program brings free arts
education to underserved youth in Philadelphia.
Koresh dancers get Philadelphia public school
students on their feet and dancing in their "master
classes." When the company members give lecturedemonstrations in the local public schools, the
students can see a performance and talk to the
dancers about their art and work.

Koresh at Home
Koresh Dance Company strives to be an artistic force by creating innovative and emotional dance
performances for audiences in Philadelphia. The company’s original dance pieces break through boundaries
of traditional choreography and offer audiences an exciting experience. As the resident dance company at
the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, home of the Philadelphia Theatre Company, KDC presents two homes
seasons— one in the fall, and one in the spring.
During our fall home season KDC re-stages works that were previously
created for the Company. This year Artistic Director, Roni Koresh, will restage ev.o.lu.tion— a piece exploring how language and art have
remained essential to human nature throughout the ages. Our fall home
season will take place from November 13-16th, 2014 at the Suzanne
Roberts Theatre.
Our spring home season features a world premiere by Artistic Director,
Roni Koresh. Roni’s works are characterized by a high level of
theatricality, both comedic and dramatic. While his works to date have
not defined outright stories, they have featured developed characters.
Roni also draws heavily from musical inspiration, which has served as the starting point for many of his works.
Working freely with music from a wide range of genres—classical, electronic, folk—even within the same
piece, Roni’s works play with a broad range of cultural signifiers that work together, and bounce off of one
another, to convey humor, paradox, struggle, harmony, and community. Our spring home season will take
place in March 2015.
