The summer is upon us, but it is certainly not too late for
students to enroll for Fall 2014!

To that end, I’d like to share an exciting update regarding BCC’s location in
Attleboro. The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education recently approved
BCC’s extensive application for full campus designation. The decision to grant
this designation points to BCC’s commitment to Greater Attleboro where some
1,700 students took college-level courses this past academic year. As you
already know, BCC has served the residents of Greater Attleboro in increasing
measure for many years. Our goal remains making BCC's Attleboro Campus a 1st choice
destination for prospective college students. Over the years we've increased staffing levels and
services for students to support our commitment to the region. Students can start and complete
about a dozen different academic programs of study in BCC's Attleboro Campus. We're both
affordable and accessible. Growing into a full-fledged campus is demonstration of our
permanence in Greater Attleboro.

In what began as a much smaller operation ten years ago, now consists of some twenty staff
members including a full-time admissions counselor, full-time financial aid counselor, a full-time
librarian and a full-time academic support specialist and others to complement the efforts of our
team. Students at BCC’s Attleboro Campus take classes days, evenings, and Saturdays & Sundays
in our state-of-the-art facility which houses lecture classrooms, science labs, computer labs, a
bookstore, a library and an auditorium.
Prospective students can call us today to speak with one of our staff members to get things in
place for this coming September. We’re open 7 days per week!
Taunton-Cohannet and Friedman Satellite
The Taunton-Cohannet satellite had a GREAT GRAND opening last Spring. We are pleased to
announce the increase in classroom space. With additional classroom space the College will
dramatically expand its daytime offering this upcoming Fall 2014!

2014 Transfer Fair – March 5, 2014
Students met with BCC faculty program chairs on transfer requirements as
well as receiving catalogs, checking programs, met with admissions and
financial aid counselors from over 21 colleges and universities. Participants
included: Bridgewater State University, Bryant University, Johnson & Wales,
Regis College, Roger Williams University, Salve
Regina, U.Mass.Boston, U.Mass.Dartmouth,
U.Mass.Lowell, University of Rhode Island, Fisher
College, Worcester State University,

American Civil War Roots of Modern Technology II Exhibit – November 2, 2013
Bristol Community College-Attleboro
Campus (BCC) and the Attleboro Area
Civil War Commemorative Committee
collaborated to present a program that
featured advances in science,
technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
driven by the American Civil War and how
they are linked to 21st Century inventions
and innovations. Displays and activities
highlighted the arts of the Civil War era.
Many exhibits highlighted the role of aerial reconnaissance
during the Civil War and in today's war on terror. Civil War
memorabilia and artifacts illustrate what was manufactured in
the area including rifles, locomotives, firearms, buttons, textiles
and more. Through photographs and narrative guest met
Attleboro area soldiers, African American illustrators, and Civil
War era women doctors, inventors, and entrepreneurs such as
Dr. Mary Walker and Susie King Taylor.
Economic Summit – May 27, 2014
The United Regional Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Bristol Community College and
Bridgewater State University sponsored an Economic Development Summit, hosted at Bristol
Community College Attleboro. Representatives from the Mass Office of Business Development,
Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, MA Workforce Training Fund, Mass
Manufacturers Partnership and National Federation of Independent Business presented
opportunities for grant funding for workforce development and business expansion.

Bristol Community College/Attleboro (BCC/A) hosted its second annual STEM (science, technology,
engineering and mathematics) Workshop for Seekonk’s Dr. Kevin M. Hurley’s 8th grade students on
May 28th. Due to the overwhelming response the area middle schools both
2013 and 2014 workshops filled to capacity. BCC/A’s goal is to inspire
middle school students to learn about all the great opportunities available
in science and technology, and get them excited about pursuing further
education in math and science-related fields. There is a growing
recognition that increasing our science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM) workforce is essential. We need to connect students to jobs of the
future by reengaging them in these important fields.
BCC is a Southeastern Massachusetts STEM Network Partner. The Southeast/Cape and Islands
Regional Pre K-16 STEM network is a collaboration of schools, colleges and universities, other formal
and informal educational organizations, and business and industry whose representatives are
concerned with improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and
prepared for STEM-based careers.
Guest Speaker Peter Tarsi, Attleboro High School Physic Teacher along with 170
Seekonk Middle School students attended workshops in: Analyzing Owl Pellets,
Exploring DNA, Light: Messenger of the Universe, Game Developing Skills, CSI
Technology and Bug Watch.
This year’s workshop was funded by the generosity of the Attleboro Rotary Charities
Foundation and BCC Science Math Division.

Upcoming Events
Manhattan Short Film Festival
This year’s Manhattan Short Film Festival, in partnership with BCC’s
Resource Development office, will be held on Friday, September 26,
2014 and Saturday, September 27, 2014. Part of this fundraising effort will
include some type of recognition for BCC/Attleboro’s 10-year
Anniversary. Details are still under development.




