Dorethia Gibson Andrews
On May 25, 1918, Dorethia Gibson Andrews
was born in the Sandhills of North Carolina. She
peacefully entered into eternal rest in the early
morning hours on Thursday, June 17, 2010.
The daughter of Fannie and Thomas Gibson,
Dorethia shared a loving relationship with her
siblings, J. T. Gibson, Spence Ola Baird and
Bernadine Gibson all of whom preceded her to
eternal peace.
Dorethia’s early childhood years were spent in
Wagram, NC where she was a member of Oak Hill
Baptist Church. Her family moved to Fayetteville,
NC when she was in the sixth grade and Dorethia
found a new church home at Mt. Sinai Baptist
Church. She lived her life for the Lord and her family
as demonstrated by her active involvement with
numerous church organizations especially the
Missionary Department.
Upon graduating from E. E. Smith High School,
Dorethia entered Fayettevile State Teacher’s College
where she earned a degree in Elementary Education.
She did post graduate studies at A& T State
University, Delaware State College, East Carolina
University and UNC-Charlotte.

Andrews. The ceremony was the
main attraction at Gospel Quartet
Fes t he ld at the War Me moria l
Stadium in Greensboro, NC. To this
union was born their daughter, Iris.
Dorethia’s teaching career began
in Statesboro, GA, continued in
Culpepper, VA; Bowling Green, VA
and Fayetteville City School System
where she retired after 15 years on
June 11, 1980.
As a loving and giving person,
Dorethia found joy in working with
children and caring for others. Her
community involvement included 25
years as an active member in the
social service based Entre Nous
CLub. She was an avid gardener and
excellent cook who enjoyed sharing
what she prepared with family,
friends, neighbors and those in need.
One of the mos t importan t
aspects of Dorethia’s life was her
family and friends. She felt blessed to
have so many closed and loving
relationships. Those left to cherish
her memories in life are her daughter,
Iris Andrews; aunt, Melinda Gibson;
nieces, Robertha Peyton Gibson,
Faye Denise Gibson-Bailey, Valda
O’Ray Gibson, Mignon Gibson,
Vernell Spencer and Melinda Fisher;
nephews, Keth Graves and Jerome
Graves; sister-in-laws, Esther Simon
and Ann Andrews; many other
relatives and dear friends.

Clifton Eugene Brown

Clifton Eugene Brown, the fourth child
of the late Julius Dixon Brown and Edell
Sansbury Brown, was born October 12, 1946
in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC and
was transitioned from this life on Tuesday,
June 22, 2010. He grew up in Cumberland
County and attended Fayetteville City
Schools. He was a proud graduate of the
class of 1965 from E.E. Smith Senior High
School.
He loved the Lord and accepted Christ as
his personal Savior, becoming a member of the
Second Missionary Baptist Church. He possessed a quiet serenity but was very passionate about the things that he loved; God and his
family. At the time of his passing he was an active member of Mosaic United Methodist
Church, Evans, Georgia.

Cliff retired after 20 years from

Cliff will be remembered as a man
with a quiet strength. always so full of
fun with a ready smile. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Julius Dixon and
Edell Sansbury Brown: one sister, Luetta
Williams. He leaves to cherish his
memory his wife, Betty; one daughter,
Tiffany Yvette Brown of Winston Salem,
NC; Three sons, Delgato Rendez Brown
of Suffolk, Va., Devon Marques Brown
of Fayetteville, NC and Spc. Kwame
Eugene Brown of Ft. Eustis, Va., one
step-daughter, Tangie Ambrose of Los
Angeles, Ca: fourteen grandchildren.

Mother Lula B. Jeffries was born to the late Alice White and
Lawrence Blackburn on April 8, 1917 in Sampson County. She
made her heavenly transition on June 11, 2010 at Cape Fear Valley
Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.
She married the late Sydney H. Jeffries on October 18, 1952 and
later she moved to Fayetteville, NC. She became a member of
Parks Chapel FWB Church under the leadership of the late Bishop
E.A. Jackson and she served faithfully under Apostle William T.
Ford, Sr. until her health declined. She was devoted and committed
to many ministries, including president of the Senior Choir, United
Voices; President of the Cape Fear Conference B Eldress
Fellowship Ministry and of Parks Chapel’s Associate Ministers.
Also a Bible Study Teacher and Cape Fear Conference B Worker.
She was the founder of Parks Chapel Revival Team and part of the
East Coast Crusade Team. Through one of her sermons the Dorcas
Circle Ministry was birthed and she became their Spiritual Advisor.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one son John W. Hargrove,
Fayetteville, NC; three sisters; Francis Herring, Newburn, NJ,
Geneva Murphy and Pastor Jessie Brown, Fayetteville, NC; one
brother; Mack Arthur Manning (Helen Manning) Parkton NC; four
grandchildren; Three great-grandchildren; followed by a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual children, and friends.
