BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
*GREETINGS adapted from Revelation 1:1-8
Leader: Hear the testimony of God’s servant, John: Blessed is
the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and
blessed are those who hear and who keep what is
written in it: Grace to you and peace from him who is
and who was and who is to come,
People: and from the seven spirits who are before his throne,
Leader: and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn
of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
People: To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his
blood, and made us to be a kingdom people.
All:
To him be glory and dominion forever and ever!
Amen.

John 18:33-38
Jesus before Pilate
Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and
asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you
ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” Pilate replied,
“I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have
handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My
kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world,
my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to
the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” Pilate asked him,
“So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this
I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.
Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate asked
him, “What is truth?”
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God,
Your Word is Truth.
Your Only Son, Jesus Christ, is the Word made flesh:
His person and work is Truth.
We confess that too often we have worshiped something or
someone other than you; forgive us we pray. In your mercy,
when our lives are disordered, and we do not put you and your
kingdom first, we ask that you break into our lives, enabling us
to respond in ways that please and glorify you; we pray this and
all things in the name of Jesus the Christ who saves us, Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*THE GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning,
Is now and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen. Amen.
