MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
GOBLE DNA PROJECT
Greetings to all our Cousins! The year is flying by and
it is time for renewal of membership in the Goble Family
Association. You will find in the newsletter a form for that
purpose. Please complete it and mail it to me along with
your dues for the 2008-2009 year. Any donation you may
wish to make to the Association or specifically to the DNA
testing fund is also welcomed. Donations to the DNA
testing fund are used to assist Goble males who are willing
to be tested, but who need some financial support to be able
to do so. We currently have $335 in the DNA Fund.
I have received no other suggestions for West Coast
locations for our 2010 Reunion. Unless I hear otherwise
very soon, we will go ahead with our tentative plans to hold
the reunion in the Portland, Oregon area. There we hope to
incorporate time at Goble Oregon. The Goble Tavern there
is in the process of major renovation. For more information
on
the
place
and
its
history,
go
to
http://www.gobletavern.com/index2.html .
What we might be able to do is to charter a bus and go out
for the day or part of a day. I will be discussing our options
with the owner in the near future.
We are still looking for a new Editor for the Association
Newsletter. Anyone who is interested, please contact me
([email protected]) or Evelyn Goble Steen
([email protected] ) who is currently doing the job.
She really needs the time to concentrate on her book. If you
haven’t yet responded to her request for information about
your part of the Goble Family, please do ASAP.
Barbara Goble Volker, President
Goble Family Association
The Goble Y-DNA project is growing. We currently
have 18 members that have been (or are being) tested, with
two kits remaining to be sent in. There have been some
surprises in test results, and also some confirmations of
those that share the same paper trails. Our participants
include descendants of Steven Goble, Robert Goble/Rebecca
Baldwin tree, Peter Cauble, Sr./Mary Ann Rotan tree, Hans
Jacob Goble/Maria Margaretha Rheinmueller tree, Cornelius
Goble/Elizabeth Sarah Teague tree, Thomas Goble/Alice
Brookman tree, John Peter Goble/Sarah A. Garrigues tree,
and the Michael Gable, b. ca. 1799-Germany tree.
The more participants we have in this project, the better
chance we have to finding brick walls. Please consider
joining us in this project.
Revis Cauble Leonard , PLS – Worldwide Goble DNA
Project Coordinator.

DAR/CAR/SAR MEMBERSHIP
Many of you know that you are eligible for membership
in Daughters, Sons or Children of the American Revolution
by virtue of your descent from a Goble Ancestor. A few
Gobles already established as Patriots by the DAR are
Abraham, Benjamin, Enos, Ezekiel, Jonas, Matthias and
Stephen from the Thomas Goble line and Christian from the
German line. There are numerous others whose service is
not yet established.
At the 2007 Goble Reunion, Stephen Hurst and I each
did presentations on membership in the Sons of the
American Revolution and the Daughters of the American
Revolution. There is not room to reproduce that information
here. Look for it soon on the Goble Family Association
Website.

GOBLE FAMILY HISTORY BOOK
Hello Goble cousins. As I begin to lay out the new reference

been marriages, births and/or deaths that have not been
reported please send me the information so I can update the
record. Evelyn Goble Steen, 36 Lake Meade Dr. East

GOBLE COUSINS IN THE NEWS!
“Our students come here because they have this idea that
they want to help people,” said Randall, who is also the
academic/clinical coordinator for Touro’s School of
Occupational Therapy. “Occupational therapy is a creative
way of helping people.”
Student Pam Aranas used some sturdy cardboard, a door
stop and a measuring cup with a long handle to create a
laundry detergent dispensing device that will allow
individuals with limited hand use such as patients with
rheumatoid arthritis, to do their own laundry.
Aranas said her goal is to help patients to maintain some
degree of independence.
“I think it’s huge,” she said. “It affects their self-esteem,
because relying on a caregiver for everything can be very
discouraging for them, and it can start to affect the caregiver
as well.”
Other students took existing technologies and found ways
to improve them or make them more affordable. Jed Rudd
took a writing aid designed to keep shaky hands steady and
recreated the $75 tool for $18.
His system consisted of a wristband with a large magnet
attached on the underside and a simple magnetic message
board. With the wristband on, the magnet attaches to the
message board and holds the hand in place while the wearer
writes.
In a more creative twist, Rudd created a comical video
demonstration of the device in which he explored its crime
fighting properties – using the magnet to disarm a knifewielding neighbor bent on robbing him.
“Occupational therapy is one of those professions that
allows you to come up with novel solutions to complex
problems,” he said.
And while he obviously had some fun with the assignment,
Rudd said it was also a learning experience.
“It opened my mind to the concept that what the catalog
offers isn’t the end all, be-all in therapy,” he said. “There
are plenty of other solutions out there.”
FUTURE THERAPISTS SHOWCASE
INVENTIONS
Green Valley Home News: June 26-July 2, 20081
By Jeremy Twitchell
MacGyver may have rigged up some interesting weapons
and tools over the years with socks, paper clips and the like,
but what did he ever really do to help people?
A group of occupational therapy students at Touro
University in Green Valley have spent the past semester
using the creative genius demonstrated on the popular
television series to better the lives of patients with serious
injuries and disabilities.
On June 18, they gathered to show off their work to one
another.
Everyone here is so creative, and that’s why we chose this
field,” student Anna Goble said. “It’s a wonderful
opportunity to help someone. It’s about having a pencil and
duct tape and asking, “OK, what can I do with this to make
someone’s life better?”
Goble was one of 23 masters students who designed and
built an invention aimed at making daily tasks as routine to a
disabled person as they would be to anybody else.
For her project, Goble disassembled an MP3 player and
rigged it to operate with large buttons and a modified Pac
Man joystick so that people who don’t have the motor ability
to operate the small buttons on the devices can still control
their music.
Associate Professor Yvonne Randall, who instructed the
students, said the experience gave students the opportunity
to explore the creative side of occupational therapy – which
is what drew many students to the field in the first place.

Kathryn Biddle, Katie Berkowitz, Cindy LaBarge and
Alanna Joyce, all of Crofton.
"I really wanted to do something for animals," said Lauren,
a fifth-grader at Crofton Woods Elementary School.
Two years ago Lauren's mom, Karen Daly, mentioned the
possibility of doing something different for her daughter's
birthday party.
"I just offered the suggestion, but it was Lauren's decision,"
said Karen, who searched the Internet and found that other
people were collecting donations for the SPCA.
Olivia Wates of Crofton attended Lauren's parties and
decided she liked the idea so much that she would do the
same for her birthday.
For her 11th birthday she held a Murder Mystery Party and
invited six friends: Lindsey Airth, Cindy LaBarge, Lauren
Daly, Grace MacMillan, Meredith Obear, and Natalia
Gorski, all of Crofton.
Olivia collected 100 pounds of dog and cat food, dog
biscuits and treats, and several bags of toys. Her donations
were given to the SPCA in Baltimore City.
"I knew it was a good thing to do for the SPCA. I already
had a lot of stuff and I didn't need any more," said Olivia,
also a fifth-grader at Crofton Woods Elementary.
Lauren and Olivia are both members of Girl Scout Troop
2189 and they play soccer for the Crofton Cobras.
Lauren loves to do crafts and has a poodle named Mia.
Olivia plays the trumpet and is a member of Destination
Imagination. She has a dog named Daisy and two cats
named Joey and Midnight.
Olivia's mom, Tammy Wates, said she thinks donation
parties might be a new trend, especially for kids who don't
know what they want for their birthdays.
"The girls were excited about doing something good for the
community, and they care a great deal for the animals that
need their help," said Tammy.
Both girls agreed that they would probably do it again for
their 12th birthdays next year.

It all started in March 2007 when Lauren Daly of Crofton
threw a Pink Poodle Party for her 10th birthday and asked
that in place of presents, her friends bring dog food and cat
toys to donate to the animals at the SPCA of Anne Arundel
County in Annapolis.
In March 2008 she did it again for her 11th birthday, only
the theme was Movie Night Party. Donations included 160
pounds of dog food, 15 pounds of dog biscuits and treats,
and a bag of toys from friends including Shannon Flaherty,
Maddie Poole, Kelly Poole, Lindsey Airth, Olivia Wates,
