STAVROS ARNAOUTAKIS GREETING SPEECH
FOR THE 1ST MEDITERRANEAN FESTIVAL OF ARTS
Crete is a blessed island, a crossroad of
Mediterranean civilizations that connects Europe
with Africa and Asia. It has deep
civilization
roots that obligate us to act always with respect
towards our history, our cultural heritage and the
values of our place.
Through our actions we aim to emphasize
the catalytic role that our civilization plays towards
the progress of our society, aiming at the same time
to improve the living.
To that end, the Region of Crete puts under its shield the 1st Mediterranean Festival of Arts,
a pioneer project that has as is target to show the
importance of Crete, and Greece in general as an
international cultural center.
From the 25th of September to the 5th of
October, the cultural heart of the Mediterranean
will beat in Crete. Top artists in every field, coming
from 15 countries will participate at the 1st Mediterranean Festival of Arts.
We expect that this festival is going to become an institution and evolve into to a top cultural
event internationally, where every year it will gather
more participations of artists from all over the world
and a greater number of spectators.
Stavros Arnaoutakis
Regional Governor of Crete.

THE 1ST MEDITERRANEAN FESTIVAL OF ARTS IN CRETE
The municipality of Aghios Nikolaos will
host major events at the 1st Mediterranean Festival
of Arts. The festival itself is a major cultural event
for Crete. The event brings the important position
of Crete in the Mediterranea.
Artistic groups of high-level artists with
international reputation will present their work
in our region in a large meeting of cultures. Their
artistic activities will highlight the value of culture,
peace, coexistence and values of world cultural
heritage and creativity. A culture in which Crete has
offered so much and is part of this creation.
Combining them with this year’s message
of World Tourism Day which is “ Tourism Linking
Cultures”. These events contribute to this sense of
the meeting of cultures. The Mediterranean Festival
of Arts broadcast to the entire Mediterranea, this
message of the meeting highlighting and bringing
Crete as a crossroad of civilization and cultures.
I would like to thank the Region of Crete,
the organizers, and the artists for their presence,
and we wish to be repeated the following years!
