Lincoln Square has housed the wealthy upper class
Increases in rent have forced many shops to shut down and people to move out
This area today is home to many German, Greek, and other immigrants
Location
How to arrive at Lincoln Square: (Option #1) Take CTA red line south to Lawrence
stop and walk about a mile west to Damen Street or (Option #2) Take CTA red line
south to Belmont stop and transfer to brown line going towards Wilson stop and get
off at Western to arrive just outside Lincoln Square.
Lincoln Square is relatively far from the Lakeshore, in the 47th Ward of Chicago on
the North side, so it attracts less tourists than neighborhoods along lake, but the CTA
brown line makes it easily accessible. It seemed like a small town square, but with an
urban influence, allowing it to maintain a condensed sense of community within the
greater community of Chicago. (“About Lincoln Square…”)

Personality/Reflection
- Small town feel within Lincoln Square, but with freshness of urban diversity
- Regardless of its small size, the neighborhood uses the influences of German and
European culture in the various shops catering to foreign tastes
- The pieces of art that are scattered around this area reflect the pride of the
inhabitants of this affluent community
- Individual Chicago neighborhoods have identities quite unique from the rest of
the city; this causes one to be open to new areas and to expand perception of
Chicago in general.
- We would return to the neighborhood to explore all the small shops
that we did not get to explore while we were there.
