50 Helmets to be Given Away to Celebrate
Riders4Helmets 2nd Anniversary
LEXINGTON, Kentucky, April 17 – Fifty safety helmets valued at $10,000 and donated by the manufacturers are being given away to celebrate
the second anniversary of Riders4Helmets.com.
The helmet giveaway along with a prize of the latest iPad comes as international horse sports head toward requirement for safety headwear two
years after the accident to U.S. dressage star Courtney King-Dye that left her in a coma for a month and is still in rehabilitation.
“In recognition of our two-year anniversary we wanted to do something really special to thank the many equestrians who have supported the
riders4helmets campaign,” said Lyndsey White, Riders4Helmets founder.
“The campaign has grown bigger than we ever could have imagined, and we are proud to know that it has made a difference in the lives of many
people around the globe.”
Equestrian can register for the giveaway by visiting www.riders4helmets.com/register-for-giveaway/. Registration closes midnight (US Eastern
Time) Sunday May 6. Visitors to the Rolex Kentucky 3DE (April 26-April 29) can visit the Riders4Helmets area to register for the giveaway.
The helmet giveaway is sponsored by: GPA, Samshield, Troxel, Charles Owen, International Riding Supply (IRH), Tipperary, Ovation, Pegasus
and One K.
Giveaway winners will be selected at random and announced at www.riders4helmets.com on Monday May 7.
Riders4Helmets organized the National Helmet Awareness Day held in 2010, followed a year later by International Helmet Awareness Day in
2011 in which more than 500 retailers participated.
Riders4Helmets is planning International Helmet Awareness Day 2012, and a 4th Riders4Helmets Safety Symposium for summer 2012.

U.S. Teams Win and Take Third
at FEI Dressage
Nations Cup in Florida
Wellington, FL - Two U.S. Dressage teams competed in the
Intermediaire I Freestyle Saturday night at the WEF Wellington
Dressage Nations Cup CDIO 3* presented by Stillpoint Farm. Both
went home with medals.
Helped by three of the night's top seven scores the first U.S. team
beat out their American counterpart, a team from Europe, and two
teams from Latin America to capture the FEI Nations Cup crown. The
team was lead by Christopher Hickey riding Hilltop Farm's Witness
Hilltop. The pair kept their momentum from Friday's Prix St. Georges
and scored a competition high 71.425%. Caroline Roffman and Pie
scored 70.050%, Shelley Francis and Patricia Stemple's Doktor
68.650%, Devon Kane and Diamante Farm's Destiny 67.525% and
together they edged out a victory on Saturday night. With a final
score of 210.125 (the lowest score from teams of four riders was
dropped) the first US team beat out the European team by less than
one whole point.
A tense and exciting night in Wellington, FL came down to the night's
very last rider. With scores of 70.825% and 68.075% respectively
from Kevin Kohmann and Katharina Stumph team Europe was still in
position to win when the final pairing, Mikala Gunderson and My
Lady, got going. They would need a very good ride and they got one
A 70.475% made them the third best pairing of the night, but that
wasn't quite enough as the team finished with a 209.375.

Another Successful Markel/USEF
Young Horse Training Session Takes
Place in Texas
Lexington, KY - Continuing the Markel/USEF Young
Horse training and observation session program,
Twinwood Equestrian Center in Simonton, TX hosted
the fourth session of 2012, April 14-15. Led by USEF
Young Horse Coach Scott Hassler, this was the first
time a session has been hosted in Texas, an area that
has proven to produce a wealth of successful young
horses.
"Texas and the surrounding area have consistently had
high participation in the Markel/USEF Young Horse
Program and the Markel/USEF Young Horse National
Championships", said Hassler. "The Young Horse
program here continually proves its quality as the group
of horses here is of diverse breed and largely
dominated by U.S. bred horses. From this training
session, I was very impressed with the quality of horses
and riders and quite certain that we'll see some of them
at the Championships in August."

Elysium Farm Fund for
U.S. Breeder Excellence
The Elysium Farm Fund for U.S. Breeder Excellence was
established at The Dressage Foundation in 2011 to help
support breeding programs in the United States. The Fund
provides financial assistance to breeders to pursue educational
opportunities related to breeding that will advance their careers,
promote sound breeding practices and further enhance the
quality of U.S.-bred dressage horses.
Specifically, the Elysium Farm Fund for U.S. Breeder
Excellence at The Dressage Foundation supports attendance
at educational programs related to breeding, such as a USDF
Sport Horse Seminar, the American Hanoverian Society Breed
Orientation Course, the Hannoveraner Verband’s Breed
Orientation Course, or similar educational program.
No preference is given to programs focusing on a particular
breed. Preference is given to USDF members.
The maximum amount to be awarded will be $1,000 per year
for programs held in the U.S. and up to $5,000 per year for
programs held overseas. The amount awarded will depend on
the financial plan provided as part of the application.
It is required that complete application packets arrive in The
Dressage Foundation's office on or before May 1 of each year.
Grant announcements will be made by August 1st.

Para-Equestrians Prepare for the Houston Dressage Society Spring
Classic I & II CPEDI1*
Katy, TX - In two months United States Para-Equestrians will be vying for a spot on the United States Paralympic Equestrian Team
heading to the London Games. With the United States Team qualified, Para-Equestrians have traveled to Houston, Texas for their
last opportunity in the United States to qualify as an individual. The Houston Dressage Society (HDS) is pleased to host the Spring
Classic I & II CPEDI3* sponsored by The COR Group at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center. Running concurrently with the
CPEDI3* will be the CDI3*and CDI1* sponsored by North Texas Equestrian Center and $10,000 HDS Dressage Derby. Fifteen
Para-Dressage horses and rider combinations will compete over three days including riders from the United States and Canada.
On Thursday, April 26, 2012, Para-Equestrian horses and riders will present their mounts for the exciting FEI Jog. On Friday, April
27, 2012, Para-Dressage competition will kick-off with the Team Test, followed by Saturday's Individual Test, and finishing with the
musical Freestyle Competition and awards ceremony. Although many of the equestrian athletes have already earned their
qualifying score for the 2012 USEF Paralympic Selection Trials, this will be one last opportunity to compete under international
ground jury Kathy Amos Jacob (FRA), David Schmutz (USA), Kristi Wysocki (USA), and Carlos Lopes (POR). Lopes has been
selected as part of the judging panel for the 2012 London Paralympics making this competition even more interesting.
