WELCOME CLUB OF HENDERSON COUNTY
APRIL 2016
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
From the pristine streams and rivers to the
beauty of the towering Blue Ridge
Mountains, we are blessed to live in such a
beautiful area of Western North Carolina.
April 12 is the date for our next Coffee and
Conversation. Be sure to RSVP to Martha
Rumbough that you will attend. This is a
great time to introduce your friends and
neighbors to Welcome Club. More
information about location is included in
this newsletter.

The annual Scavenger Hunt on March 29th
at the Cummings Cove Golf Club is coming
up in just a couple of weeks. If you haven’t
already signed up, your LAST CHANCE
reservation form is included in this
Newsletter. Or just give Ginny Hamson a
call and tell her you are coming! It will be
a day of fun and laughter with good food
and prizes for all who attend and
participate.
As we read Charity Matters by our Charity
Liaison, Diane Tokarski, we will learn more
about our 2016 charity, Safelight. Many
exciting things are happening at Safelight
and we are happy to sponsor them this
year.
Your Board will be planning and hosting a
New Members Luncheon in the next month

We couldn’t be happier for Safelight! On
February 29th, Safelight was awarded a
$100,000 grant from the John William Pope
Foundation for the purpose of expanding its
commercial kitchen in the Dandelion
Restaurant. The grant enables Safelight the
opportunity to enlarge its current culinary skills
training program for its clients as well as
providing Spotlight funds to expand its current
catering program. Kudos to Safelight!
The March 29th Scavenger Hunt is coming up
soon, and we have been given an update on
a few other items that Safelight can use. Here
is a complete list:





New and gently used vacuum cleaners
Toilet paper, paper towels and facial
tissue
Feminine products, particularly pads
(not ultra-thin)
Similac Advance baby formula
Food items that kids enjoy, i.e.,
Spaghettios, pasta and quick meal
items. Often times, clients don’t have
money when they arrive at the shelter
and the items on hand may not be what
the children like.
We will be collecting the above-mentioned
items at our March 29th Scavenger Hunt, to be
held at Cummings Cove.
~~~~Before the Scavenger Hunt begins, please
bring your items to my van in the Cummings
Laresa Griffin and possibly Tanya Blackford of
Safelight will be stopping by at the luncheon
after the Scavenger Hunt to say hello to
Welcome Club members. They are so very
appreciative that Safelight has been selected
as Welcome Club’s 2016 charity.
Upcoming events for Safelight:
Wednesday, April 6 – A Celebration of
Courage Luncheon- Kenmure Country Club –
12:00 Noon- 2 pm
$75.00/ticket $45 OF THE TICKET COST IS TAX
program will be presented by Park Ridge
Health. The guest speaker at the luncheon will
be Tonier Cain, author of Healing Neen. She
will speak about her healing and recovery from
a childhood of physical and sexual abuse,
addiction and incarceration and also what
was on the other side of all that trauma:
happiness, success, health and healing.
October, 2016 – Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes Date to be determined
