Commitment to training
hsbCAD training courses are essential for clients to get
the most from the software.
ITW Industry offer a range of courses for each solution
and each module if required. Courses can be
customised to the specific company / user requirements.
ITW Industry focus training on the particular tools and
features that will be of most benefit to the user following
the completion of a pre-training questionnaire form.
Training is available both onsite and offsite. Offsite
training is preferred to ensure that trainees remain
focussed on the course without the pressures of their

Building Information Model (BIM)
By using the “Building Information Modeling”
(BIM) process, our Residential Design Suite
ensures a seamless data communication thus
maintaining the integrity of the 3D model
through the various design stages.
For example, the building envelope data created by the
architect at the concept stage can be directly transferred
to the truss fabricator to engineer the components, whilst
dynamically linking that information back to the timber
frame model allowing the designer to coordinate the
structure. Any further changes to the design can
automatically be updated across the various designers.
Throughout this entire process material takeoff from
within each design stage will feed into the business
management systems providing the ability to compare
the actual material usage to your estimated material
usage. At the production stage the software generates
all necessary CNC data through the entire management
facility. The addition of the hsbProduction Controller
ensures maximum throughput and efficiently of the plant.

Alpine VIEW and hsbCAD link
ITW Industry offer a whole house design,
detailing and engineering solution for timber
frame manufacturers incorporating Alpine VIEW
and hsbCAD software. This dynamic software
link enables fast, accurate design turnaround
with huge flexibility and control.
Bridging the gap
The day to day problems caused by the disconnection
between the roof truss / floor joist designers and timber
frame designers has long been accepted. Together,
hsbCAD and Alpine have embarked upon the task of
bridging the gap.
Following thorough consultation with users of both
software products, it was concluded that the first step
towards integration between roof truss / floor joist and
timber frame design is to enable the ability to share the
same input of walls, structural members and roof
planes.
As a result of the hsbCAD / Alpine VIEW link,
communication between the roof truss / floor joist
designer is enhanced. The elimination of the double
handling of data speeds up design turnaround and
reduces the possibility of errors. Ultimately the synergy
between designers and manufacturers leads to better
designs, more accurate documents and better homes.
The gap bridged
Whether at the early stages of truss quotation or creating
a client approval drawing, the link enables the automatic
transfer data between hsbCAD and Alpine VIEW.

When a quotation for a roof truss or floor joist layout is
completed, all of the wall, floor and roof data within the
Alpine VIEW software can be easily imported into
hsbCAD. This eliminates the requirement for the timber
frame designer to re-input the walls and resolve roof
planes, and the possibility of inaccuracies. Any changes
required for the overall structure can be easily and
quickly communicated back to the VIEW model and
engineered as required while updating the hsbCAD
model.
On the other side of the equation, once the architectural
model is completed in hsbCAD, all wall, structural beam
and roof data can be exported directly to Alpine VIEW.
This allows the roof truss / floor joist designer to
concentrate on the specific task of engineering the roofs
and floors. Once the roof and floor analysis is complete,
all the engineering data can be exported directly back to
hsbCAD to complete the 3D model.
The complete 3D model now contains every engineered
roof truss / floor joist component, each with details on
their plates and reactions. The reactions are shown on
the hsbCAD model, allowing the timber frame designer
to make informed decisions when dealing with any point
loads. In addition, information on other components
such as loose infill, bracing, gable ladders and
metalwork are contained within the 3D model.
Further to the transfer of the architectural aspect and
engineered components, the hsbCAD / Alpine link also
allows the transfer of completely detailed cut roofs, as
well as loose and cassette floors. The hsbCAD / Alpine
link takes advantage of the most powerful traditional roof
and cassette floor detailing tools on the market by
allowing the user to detail complete roofs and floors
within hsbCAD before exporting directly to VIEW for
engineering. If required, further adjustments to individual
components can be carried out within VIEW, then
exported directly back to the hsbCAD 3D model.

hsbTimber is an open, easy-to-use CAD solution,
designed to meet the challenges of modern
construction. Based on AutoCAD® Architecture, it has
a broad functionality, ranging from oak framing, oak
roof trusses, open frames and classic roof structures,
to the design and manufacturing of carports, balconies
and staircases – even building bridges and
playgrounds.
The hsbTimber entry level module provides the full
range of functionality expected from modern design
software, with many innovative features.
As well as providing 3D solid modelling, hsbTimber
enables the advanced editing of each and every beam
during the whole process. Users can set out roofs –
including dormers – and automatically insert beams at
will. They can edit all objects and create customisable
reports in Excel or Access. In addition, hsbTimber has
a standard library, covering important wood
construction connections, as well as a user-defined
catalogue for materials, components and tools.

hsbWall is the most modern and efficient CAD/CAM
solution for the offsite construction industry. It facilitates
the progression of the 3D building model from
AutoCAD® Architecture to hsbCAD. This means that
architectural designs can be transferred into the
design production stage without any loss of data.
Creating walls for production is carried out on the
basis of user-defined, detailed catalogues covering
wall structural make up, corner junctions and opening
details etc. In addition, there are many practical
functions, including collision control for beam and drill
holes. Wall manufacturing layouts are presented easily
and are created real-time in user-defined layouts along
with customisable reports in Excel or Access. This
saves time when making adjustments or additions to
wall elements. The catalogues, editing tools and
display options of hsbWall, as well as the high degree
of flexibility in its presentation of manufacturing design,
make it an indispensable asset for the offsite
construction industry.
hsbElement simplifies the planning, design and
presentation of roof and floor cassette design. Much
like hsbWall, user-defined dynamic details for cassette
edges form the basis for calculating 3D production
data. Cassette manufacturing layouts containing all the
relevant production information are displayed real-time
from the 3D model in user-defined layouts. There are
virtually no limits to the contours of floors and shapes
of roofs. Similar to hsbWall, all the information on the
individual cassettes within a project are output in
hsbCAD format, and can be read and evaluated by any
database.

hsbPanel allows manufacturers and architects to
implement and design Structural Insulated Panels
(SIPs) and Concrete Panels. It facilitates the
progression of the 3D building model from AutoCAD®
Architecture to hsbCAD. This means that architectural
designs can be transferred into the design production
stage without any loss of data. This unique module
allows users to define their construction methods for
walls, ceilings and roofs. In addition, there are many
advanced features for wire chasing ducts, spline
connections, pocket details and individual automatic
dimensional shop drawings along with customisable
reports in Excel or Access.
hsbLog is a comprehensive 3D solution with extensive
specific log structure features for designers and
manufacturers of log structures. The module is
comprised of easy-to-use features that determine
corner connections and T-joints, window profiling and
drill positioning, cross bracing and numbering. Log
profiles are simply defined using AutoCAD® 2D
polylines. Parts lists are created using customisable
reports in Excel or Access. In addition, optional extras
are available that provide interfaces to all the major
CNC system manufacturers.

hsbLam is used in the planning and production of
curved beams of any thickness and quality. It boasts a
comprehensive range of functions, including the easy‚
editing of single laminations, a function that inserts‚
press frames with dynamic lengths, an automatic
supportive dimensioning function as well as dynamic
2D lamination processing. hsbLam also includes
collision control for beams and drilling, creation of all
relevant product information (rough laminations, glue
amounts, etc.) in Excel or Access.
The hsbCAM module is required for the application of
all CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) equipment to
hsbCAD solutions. For example, in the area of timber
frame, this would include nailing patterns and milling
links among other items.

The TSL macro language allows users to modify the
hsbCAD program, providing full flexibility to automate
day to day functions and create company specific
tools. TSL is also used by hsbCAD technical staff to
quickly prototype client requests, which can then be
delivered immediately without the requirement for major
software upgrades.

The hsbProduction Controller (hsbPC) is a complete
system to control the workflow for each process within
the manufacturing facility. For automated/manual
manufacturing processes, this system ensures
maximum efficiency by ensuring an uninterrupted flow
of information between each stage of manufacture.
By utilizing CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) data
created within the hsbCAD model, the hsbProduction
Controller allows production managers to specify
manufacturing schedules on a daily and weekly basis.
Schedule updates are easily introduced as and when
required through an intuitive user interface and by
integrating such functionality as Multiwalling into the
process, this gives the ultimate freedom to manage the
manufacturing process.
Regardless of the manufacturing stage, clear and
concise instructions can be supplied to the operator via
hsbClient interfaces located at each process station,
thus removing the need for paper drawings and lists.
These instructions are provided on time and in the
correct sequence to ensure that the manufacturing
operates at full capacity.
Providing native support for both Weinmann and
Bautech machines as standard, the hsbProduction
Controller can also be configured to communicate with
any other third party CNC equipment. Thus ensuring
that the hsbProduction Controller provides the productively and flexibility required to maximise output from
any manufacturing facility.

The fast paced residential construction industry of today

VisionREZ achieves this by allowing users to build an
accurate Building Information Model (BIM) with little
more effort than it takes to draw a set of plans using
traditional 2D CAD methods.

(pictured above) and roof styles may be set. VisionREZ
