Message FROM THE President & Principal
Dear Friends of Sacred Heart:
2012-2013 was a pivotal year for Sacred Heart Academy. Our Capital Campaign was met with great support; our
campus expanded its footprint to include a new track, the Four Sisters Field, a practice field, additional parking,
and new walkways; our faculty met the challenge of creating new curriculum to boost our already strong
science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program; and, always remembering our call
to serve, we gave to those in need after Hurricane Sandy and our neighbors in Our Lady of Loretto Parish.
Within this annual report you will find the names of generous donors who contributed to the Building the
Dream Capital Campaign. Led by our supportive co-chairs Steve and Nancy Vincent P ’05, ’09, ’11 and Theresa
Palamaro Ahlstrom ’79, we are now headed towards a strong close. We were blessed to receive leadership gifts
from a devoted alumna for the expansion of our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs
and from the family of young alumnae for the new Four Sisters Field. We continue our fundraising efforts and
appeal to all our friends to give, at any capacity, to our worthwhile cause to educate, empower, and inspire our
future woman leaders.
Over the last three years, we have invested $10 million in campus expansion and development because we are
determined to ensure the long-term future of the school and offer a setting that continually fosters opportunity
and growth for our students. Each day, as the girls arrive to campus, they are welcomed by beautiful new
gardens, a spacious environment, and a field to call home. Their enthusiasm for their new surroundings exudes
throughout our grounds and can be heard loud and clear at each game and practice. Pictures of our students on
the new field grace our ever-changing website and we are so very proud that four athletes were recently named
High School All-Academic by the US Lacrosse Women’s Game Coaches.
Our 2013 graduating class was again proof that the investment in a Sacred Heart Academy education pays off
in great dividends. The entire class received Regents Diplomas and 92% received academic, artistic, or athletic
scholarships totaling over $45 million.
Our Annual Fund reached $154,387, a slight decrease from last year, which can be attributed to donations being
allocated to the Capital Campaign. Still at a strong number, the Annual Fund is essential to supporting the
general operating costs of the school and our programs for scholarships and tuition assistance. This year, with
help from our generous alumnae and friends, we provided $363,486 in financial awards to over 120 students,
whether for academic achievement or need, including some who lost their homes due to Hurricane Sandy.
The school’s endowment, The Corde Fund, had a value of $4.9 million as of June 30, 2013, and earned 7.7% last
year. It is our intention to continue to grow the fund while benefitting from its income production by taking an
annual contribution to support our operating budget.
The community of Sacred Heart Academy is vibrant and growing. We greatly appreciate our alumnae, parents,
and friends who give time and treasure throughout the year, participate in our social events, and remain
connected to the school in so many ways. We hope you will proudly peruse the pages of our Annual Report and
look for your name amongst those who contributed to our school or attended our special events.

FROM THE Chair - SHA Board of Trustees Finance Committee
Dear Sacred Heart Academy Family and Friends,
On behalf of the Sacred Heart Academy Trustees’ Finance Committee, I present the financial results for the
year ended June 30, 2013. The Academy had total revenues of $13.2 million, of which the largest source
is $8.2 million in tuition and fees. Other primary revenue sources include student activities and auxiliary
income of $1.1 million. Total contributions of $3.3 million include $1.6 million in capital campaign gifts.
Total expenses of $13.2 million, include instruction costs of $7.8 million, followed
by net capital expansion costs of $1.4 million.
Apart from instruction, other student
related
programming,
including
scholarships
and
financial
aid,
total
$1.3
million.
As of June 30, 2013, the Academy had total assets of $16.9 million and net assets of $10.4 million.
Assets include $1.5 million in cash, $4.9 million in Corde Fund investments, and $8.7 million in
plant. Liabilities of $6.5 million include $3.8 million in plant-related debt. The Finance Committee
supports the Academy’s progress as it sets and achieves its mission-oriented financial goals.

Located in SHA, the Tree of Life commemorates
those who have passed away. A gift of $250 for
a gold leaf is a way to remember an individual
who has made a difference in your life.
Securities and Trusts
Gifts of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or
securities are beneficial ways to lend support.
Donations through a trust provide an
opportunity to acquire tax benefits and receive
a return from the assets. Funded through
appreciated securities or property, trusts can
ensure a steady sheltered annual income.
Real Estate
Charitable gifts of houses, condos, commercial
property, and other types of real estate can be
extremely advantageous for tax purposes.
Life Insurance
Consider donating a Life Insurance Policy. It
is possible to name Sacred Heart Academy as
owner or the beneficiary of the policy.
Wills and Bequests
You can make a difference in the education of
young women of SHA with a charitable bequest
