One of the most exciting things coming up for SW Skin
Care & Cosmetics is their approaching relocation and expansion. The company recently purchased the building at
23 Fremont Street in historic downtown Gloversville and is
in the process of renovating to create a true signature spa,
first of its kind in Fulton County. This new spa will double
the current facility’s capacity and will feature seven treatment rooms for massage and facials, locker rooms, a quiet
reflection room, and nail stations. They will also be adding
hair service stations at their new location to become the
ultimate one stop shop for spa and salon services. The
new facility will even have a large training room where
classes, such as yoga will be offered, and instructional presentations by the area’s leading expects in beauty and skin
care services will be given for public education. This new
facility is expected to open in June 2016.
When asked about the relocation, Wieszchowski commented, “I am so excited about this move. Not only because we are creating a state-of-the-art spa facility with this
new location, but because we are truly doing good for our
community. Spa and skin care services are severely lacking
in this area, there are no dermatologists practicing within 30
miles and the closest full service spa, aside from ours, is in
Saratoga. We serve a need here, and we serve it well. Even
those who used to go out to Saratoga are amazed when
they walk through our doors. You will not find higher quality spa services anywhere, and we are proud to offer that
to this community.”

JOHNSTOWN — Dunlap Chiropractic, located at 2701
Route 29, was named by
Leader-Herald readers as the No. 1 chiropractic practice
in the region.
The chiropractic practice was started almost 10 years ago in
February 2006. The business is owned by chiropractor Brad
Dunlap and his wife, Tamara, who's a dentist in Johnstown.
The Dunlaps have three children Jack, 10, Kyle, 8 and Zoe, 4.
Orignally Dunlap Chiropractic was located on Decker
Drive in the Crossroads Business Park, but in 2010, Brad Dunlap moved his location to a 32-acre farm on Route 29,
which gave him greater visibility and helped him expand
his client base by between 30 percent and 40 percent.
Shortly before the move, in 2009, Brad Dunlap purchased
the chiropractic practice of a Johnstown chiropractor Mike
Perras, who was moving out of the area. Dunlap estimates
the acquisition of Perras' practice increased the size of his
client base by about 60 percent.
Dunlap said his move to Route 29 also allowed him to create the kind of chiropractic practice he wanted to operate.
"What I've wanted to do is create more of a home office
type setting. It's not my home, but I wanted that appeal
versus a commercial office building," he said. "The way I
practice hasn't changed. I do general chiropractic, musculoskeletal injuries, low back and neck pain, sports injuries."
Dunlap said at his chiropractic practice he treats anyone
from pediatric patients, who are infants and children, to
older geriatric patients.
"I treat anything from chronic ear or colic [infection] in a
child to chronic low back or neck pain in an adult," he said.
The practice of chiropractic science is the based on the
belief that manipulation of misaligned joints, particularly
the joints of the spinal column, can help alleviate pain and
illness in other parts of the body.
"The majority of my clients are probably middle-aged, 40
to 55 years of age," he said. "I do get quite a few families.
Mom or Dad start with us and then they'll bring in their kids
to get checked, so I do have a pretty decent younger generation clientele. I don't target one specific age group."

Dunlap said he's grateful the readers

"My philosophy is that when somebody comes to me, I want to try help fix
their problem and help them maintain
good chiropractic health," he said. "I'm
not an aggressive chiropractor. I'm gentle. I have a lot of different techniques
that I use, which is always a benefit, as
opposed to using just one style."
Dunlap foresees that his business will
grow over the next 10 years. He said
he intends to try to remain on the cutting edge of chiropractic science.
"As techniques develop, I'll develop
if the research supports it," he said.

Harvey's Home, Garden and Pet Center in Johnstown, named the No. 1 garden center in this
year's Readers' Choice Awards, is appreciated by
customers because of its customer service, coowner Christina VanValkenburgh says.
The center, located on Route 30A, offers gardening
and outdoor decor products, soil testing, free pool
water testing, dog obedience classes, grooming,
nutrition for pets, bird seminars, a do-it-yourself dog
wash and other products and services.
This is the second year in a row the center has
been named No. 1 garden center in the Readers'
Choice Awards.
Recently, the center has seen growth in its dog
and cat grooming service. The grooming includes
a bath, ear and eye cleaning, nail trimming and a
haircut.
The center started the grooming service a year
and a half ago, VanValkenburgh said.
The Home, Garden and Pet Center is located in
the same building as Home Heating Headquarters,
which is run by VanValkenburgh's husband, Mark
VanValkenburgh.
Together, both businesses employ about 25
people.
The home and garden business has been operating since 1987. In the early 1990s, the VanValkenburghs opened Home Heating Headquarters.
Christina VanValkenburgh's father-in-law used to
say, "The only way you can take care of your customers is by service, service, service," and the
business follows those words today.
Providing customers with carryout service is one
of the ways the business goes above and beyond
to serve its customers.

Best Home Health Care: Community Health Center
JOHNSTOWN — Community Health Center, which
is celebrating its 30th year serving Fulton and Montgomery counties, was named the No. 1 home
health care agency in the Reader's Choice Awards.
CHC, a nonprofit agency, was founded in 1984
as the result of a joint venture of St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam and Nathan Littauer Hospital
and Nursing Home in Gloversville. The certified
home health agency and long-term home health
care provider opened in 1985 and has grown to
be one of the largest home health care agencies
in the region.
CHC offers a full range of in-home health care
services. In 2013, the agency expanded its service area to include Hamilton, Herkimer, Saratoga,
Schoharie and Warren counties, said Anne Boles,
director of community relations for CHC.
CHC employs around 160 people, most of them
full time, and currently serves about 450 patients,
Boles said.
"We … have a great staff that really provides the
patient-centered care we focus on," Boles said.
CHC is a repeat winner of the Reader's Choice
Award.
"We are very appreciative of our [counties] voting for us two years in a row," Boles aid.
CHC always aims to keep up with the times. One
way it is doing that is providing its employees
with smart phones, Boles said.
"That's a great way to connect with each other
since everyone is always out in the field," Boles
said.

JOHNSTOWN — The Holiday Inn in Johnstown has
once again been named by Leader-Herald readers
as the No. 1 hotel, motel and banquet facility in the
region.
Jim Landrio, the general manager of the inn and
one of the partners who owns the franchise, said
his business in currently undergoing a $700,000 renovation to upgrade the interior of the hotel, which
he said should be completed by January.
This renovation builds upon other upgrades in recent years at the hotel, including the business converting the hotel from an exterior hotel to an interior
hotel and putting up a new canopy.
"Now we're doing phase three of our plan, which
is the remodeling of the lobby, the restaurant, the
banquet facility and the lounge. We actually started
in June and we'll be completed by January," Landrio said. "We've purchased all-new ceilings, allnew lighting, painting, artwork, flooring, carpeting,
tile, all new furniture — every bit of furniture in the
whole operation is being [replaced]. We've done
segments of renovation over the years, but this time
we're doing everything completely. This is something that we decided we wanted to make it more
contemporary in design."
The five partners who own the Holiday Inn franchise, which has been in business since 1967, are
Mario Albanese, Angelo Solomos, Richard
Clemente, John Shahda Jr. and Landrio.
Landrio started at the Holiday Inn 43 years ago as
a dishwasher and has watched the business evolve.
The inn now employs about 75 people and up to
100 people during the summer tourism season.
Landrio said all of the renovations at the Holiday
Inn has to be approved by the Holiday Inn's corporate leadership.
"We hired an interior design specialist out of Memphis Tennessee who specializes in hotels. She has
done work in the area, in Lake Placid, Saratoga, and
we used her before when we converted the hotel.
She's doing a great job. People will be very impressed that all of the colors will flow through the
whole operation," he said.
Landrio said one of the big changes that will come
out of the renovation is the renaming of the hotel's
restaurant.
"There's going to be a new name for the restaurant
and the lounge. Our menus are changing. We're just
changing with the times. We're going to have a more
contemporary style of dining," he said. "A lot of
people think our restaurant is just for out-of-town
guests; our restaurant is for everybody. We've been
very fortunate that a lot of our local clientele supports our restaurant."
The Holiday Inn is the largest hotel in the tri-county
area, with 100 full-service rooms.
Landrio said he is pleased his business has once
again won Readers' Choice Awards as the best in
two categories.
"We're grateful that they thought of us and we're
going to try to do the best job we can. We're locally owned and operated. It's an honor to be recognized by the community and that's what we've
always prided ourselves in," he said.

BROADALBIN — Business is growing at Midnight Oil,
and one of the reasons is the fuel-delivery company's dependability, says owner Joe DiGiacomo.
"If we say we're going to be there, we'll be there,"
DiGiacomo said.
Midnight Oil, based at 297 Route 29, is the winner
of the Readers' Choice Award for top fuel company.
Midnight Oil, founded by DiGiacomo and his wife,
Nancy, in 1991, serves more than 5,000 residential
and commercial customers in Fulton, Montgomery,
Saratoga and Hamilton counties.
In recent years, the company has added trucks and
employees.
Midnight Oil employs seven people and operates
two transport trucks and six delivery trucks, Joe DiGiacomo said.
He said there are fewer fuel companies in the area
today, and prices are down, which results in more
people turning to fuel oil because it's economical.
Midnight Oil delivers oil, kerosene and diesel to its
customers.
The company keeps up with technology, DiGiacomo said, pointing out he has some customers on
automatic delivery. This involves a computer model
that automatically lets him know when a customer
needs a delivery.
In addition to priding itself on dependability, Midnight Oil makes a point to communicate with potential and existing customers and always be honest
with them.
Joe and Nancy DiGiacomo, who are appreciative
that readers selected their business in the Readers'

Senzio explained cameras can be adjusted and
moved from anywhere in the world using a smart
phone to give users greater control over their systems,
even from halfway around the world.
The business is also approved as part of the National
Grid Lighting Program. The program offers 0 percent
financing and rebates and can offer massive energy
savings, Senzio said.
For large-scale jobs, the company has two bucket
trucks available so repairs and service work can be
made to light poles.
