The LBC Mary Margaret Taylor Ministry Scholarship Fund provides
assistance for LBC students who are attending college or seminary and
pursuing a career in a church-related vocation. Applications are available
in the church office. Please email [email protected] for more

Welcome to the Signal:
From the Pastor
Summer and all of its ministry opportunities are in full swing.
Our children are having a blast on the “LexKids World Tour,” as
they connect every week with teaching, family devotions and great
activities. Our students have a packed summer schedule, and their
annual retreat to Journey Camp in June provided a special blessing
for all of them. Mission trips are going and coming to different
regions of the world. Electric Chapel (our new Wednesday night
outreach worship service for young adults) is a great new ministry
for the summer. I’m especially excited at how our college ministry
has grown over the past couple of months. That group is so filled
with young men and women passionate about Jesus, and it’s such a
joy to see so many of them this summer!
Our annual Celebration of Freedom is Sunday morning, July 3. We
won’t be having Sunday School that day (we will still offer Wee Care
for children birth through age five), but we will have both morning
services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. This service is a time of expressing
our gratitude to God for the blessings He has given our nation, and
this year I’ll bring a special message on the unique role that we, as
followers of Jesus, are called to fulfill as citizens. I hope you’ll plan
on being a part of our worship on July 3!
Dr. Mike Turner
SENIOR PASTOR
Go ahead now and mark July 24 as a day here at LBC you won’t want
to miss. Regi Stone will be our special worship leader that day, and
those who remember the times in the past that Regi has been with
us, you know we’re in for a special treat. Regi is a nationally-known
worship leader and writer, and each time he has been with us, we’ve
had a remarkable worship experience. He’ll lead us in a special time
of worship Sunday morning, centered around the Lord’s Supper.
That night, he’ll lead us in a time of worship and prayer. Also at the
evening service, our Intercessory Prayer ministry will be available to
come alongside our folks and provide particular prayer. This will be
an awesome day for our church!
Pam and I continue to meet new people in the Meeting Place (the
hospitality area just off the main worship center) every Sunday
following the services. It’s amazing to see how many people in our
area are searching for the spiritual foundation that only comes
through Jesus. They don’t always know how to express that kind
of longing; in fact, they often speak of other things--like finding a
church home, connecting with a group of like-minded friends or even
sinking roots into a local faith community. All of those motivations
are to be commended, but underneath them all is the heart’s desire
to enter into a love relationship with Jesus that transforms your life.
These people are in our church every single Sunday, and our great
responsibility is to reach out to them, make them feel welcome and
walk with them into the promises of the gospel! That’s what church is
all about. So as you walk the halls of our church every week, worship
and connect with your Sunday School class, be alert to the stranger,
the newcomer, the people who may look a little confused about where
to go and how to get there and take the time to introduce yourself
and make them feel welcome. Your simple words of friendship could
well lead them to Jesus.
Looking forward to a great month!

Preschool Focus
Preschoolers are having a great time learning about Creation this summer! So far, we’ve
learned that God made light and dark, the sky and water, the land and sea and all of the
objects in the sky. God made everything! He is an amazing Creator!
Do you love little children? Do you want to serve but don’t
know where? The preschool ministry is a wonderful place to
serve. This is your opportunity if you want to do something
significant, are ready to make a difference and you care
about the faith of the Next Generation. We have many
opportunities for you to serve: Sunday mornings at 9 or
10:30 and Wednesday evenings in the fall. We have lead
teacher positions, co-teacher positions, substitute options
and Parent Partner positions that serve once a month.
Please prayerfully consider how you can get involved,
teach our little ones and help them to build an authentic
faith. Contact Jeanette Simpson at
[email protected] if you are interested.
Preschoolers and parents, don’t miss our upcoming Preschool Playdate on
July 20 at 10 a.m. at Fox Farm in Lexington!

Elementary Focus
This summer, we’re excited for kids to experiencing that life-changing story of Jesus and put
their faith in Him. We’re talking about faith like this: I’m believing that what Jesus did can
change me. Our hope is that kids discover that no matter where they are in the world, the
story of Jesus can change them, too.
We get to view the gospel through a man whose life was radically changed when he encountered
the story of Jesus. He went from a person who did whatever it took to stop the message of
Jesus from spreading, to one who ended up writing most of the New Testament of the Bible
and dying for his faith in Jesus. This man, as you may have already guessed, is Paul. He
went all
over the known world preaching the story of Jesus. We’ll explore
where in the world Paul was, and how we fit into his story too.

EQUIPPING MINISTRY
Helping you to become fully-devoted disciples of Jesus
FREEDOM
What is freedom? To a baby, freedom is not having a diaper on, but that is short-lived once another one
is in place. For a toddler, freedom is sneaking away from the watchful eye of their parents, but soon
the frantic cries of a parent make them realize they would have been better off staying put. To a child,
freedom happens when they go to a friend’s house to spend the night but find out there are more rules
there than in their own home. As a teenager, freedom is getting their driver’s license or going on their
first date, but that means they need a job to pay for gas, movies and meals. For a high school graduate,
freedom is going off to college and living on their for the first time, but then they realize to stay in college
means they have to study. After a student graduates from college, freedom is buying their first home or
apartment, but then you realize those things come at a price. When an adult is in their 30s and 40s, they
long for retirement and believe that is when they will find real freedom, but then the “honey do” lists are
long and seem to never end.
My point in all this is simple. Earthly freedoms come with a price, and in most cases, they aren’t really
freedoms at all. The old saying is true, “nothing in this world is free.” A few weeks ago, I received a call
from a property management company from Myrtle Beach. They wanted to offer me a free three-night
cruise... if I would come to sit through a 90-minute presentation at one of their properties. I politely told
the lady on the phone that I wasn’t interested. She then asked, “are you opposed to getting things for
free?” I responded, “This isn’t free- you are asking for my time, and time is valuable to me.”
True freedom is only found in Christ. In Luke 15, Jesus tells the parable of the lost son. The young boy
wants his inheritance and runs off thinking he has found happiness and freedom. When his money runs
out, he soon realizes he needs to go home. He is hesitant but believes working and
eating as a servant is better than eating pig slop. The important piece of this story is
what the son finds upon his return, which is unconditional love: the kind of love only
a father can give. This July, as we celebrate freedom as a country, let’s realize real
freedom is only found in the love of The Father.

and no Sunday school. There will still be Wee Care for children birth
through age five.
NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITIES ON JULY 6
There will be no Electric Chapel or Pastor’s Bible Study on July 6.
We will resume both on July 13 at 6:30 p.m. Music practices will be
held as usual.
COLLEGE BIBLE STUDY IN
JULY
College Bible Studies will
continue in July on Sunday
evenings at 7 p.m. Contact

Student Ministry Families,
As we are in the middle of our summertime schedule, we just wanted to remind
you of some key events coming up before school starts back up.
The Transit is just for rising 6th graders and parents! It is a special event to welcome our 6th
graders to the Student Ministry. The Transit takes place in The City (upstairs of the FLC) on
July 31 from 12 to 2 p.m. Food will be provided. Please RSVP by July 24 to Kristen King at
[email protected].
The Next Gen Open House is a great place to learn about the heartbeat and vision behind our
ministry, and how we plan to partner with your family this coming year. One of the coolest things
about the Open House is that you will get to meet your student’s small group leader; you’ll find
out that their leader also has a passion for your son or daughter to enter into a relationship with
Jesus Christ, grow into being a mature Christian and use the gifts that God has given them. Oh,
we should mention that there will be food, too... that usually does the trick! Our Open House is
August 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gym; make plans to attend.
If you are interested in being a small group leader in our student ministry please contact Daniel
Walker at [email protected].

senior adults
& congregational care
Welcome to the hottest time of the year – summertime in Lexington! This summer, when things
move a little more slowly around campus, take advantage of some downtime and be a blessing
to your neighbors. Maybe they’re new – families are moving in and out because of changes in
employment, a desire to be in a specific school district or great deals on houses.
You know, senior adults are moving next door to you, down the street, around the corner to
be closer to their children and grandchildren or they have recently retired or decided that
Lexington is just a great place to live. Take advantage of seeing moving trucks and bless those
new neighbors! Why don’t you help your new neighbor feel welcome in your own way – bake a
cake or buy a loaf of bread and just express how glad you are to have them in the neighborhood.
As you do, you may find yourself in a place to have significant ministry in their lives. Give it a
try – you won’t regret it!
Be on the lookout for special events as they pop up during the summer. We will plan a game day
in July when you can bring a favorite game and sit around tables in our Fellowship Hall, and we’ll
provide the snacks. At the end of the summer, we’ll be ready to kick off the fall with our annual
M&M supper on August 19 at 6 p.m. If you haven’t been with us for this event before, you don’t
want to miss it.

KOSANOVIC FAMILY HOMECOMING
The Kosanovic family recently came back home from their assignment in Thailand. They arrived
in the U.S. on June 3 and traveled for the rest of the month. They will be staying in the LBC
mission house beginning in July and hope to catch up with as many of you as possible. There
will be a drop-in on Sunday, July 10 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the mission house (407 E. Butler
Street) to celebrate their arrival back in the states and to celebrate Kaity Kosanovic’s high
school graduation from Grace International School. Not having family and friends able to be
at her graduation was very difficult for Kaity. Come celebrate her accomplishments, and hear
what’s been going on with the Kosanovics and their time in Thailand! As this term ends for the
Kosanovics, please pray for God to give them wisdom, discernment, peace and rest and to help
them as Kaity heads off to college.
SCHOOL-FOCUSED MINISTRY
During the month of July, we will be collecting school supplies to be given to a local school.
These supplies will go to students who may not otherwise have the things they need to start
a new school year. Collection bins and supply lists will be in the Missions area of the Worship
Center lobby, as well as in the Children’s Ministry Building. Please consider helping us bless
local school children with much-needed supplies!
UPCOMING TRIP PRAYER NEEDS
Please continue to pray for our teams who are traveling. We have two teams who
will be serving in Nicaragua. Please pick up a prayer card from the Missions
area of the Worship Center lobby to keep up-to-date with the prayer requests
for our teams.

MALACHI DADS CELEBRATION DAY - July 23, 2016
Volunteers needed!
At Broad River Correctional, an exciting new ministry is taking place. It is an AWANAS-based
program called “Malachi Dads.” For 12-weeks, the fathers in the facility’s ministry will go
through an intense biblical study of what fatherhood should be. Discussions during the class
lead to deep theological and philosophical examinations of the adjustments that are needed
to become the leaders God has designed men to be.
At the end of the 12 weeks, there is a “Returning Hearts Celebration,” when the children are
brought into the prison to spend an entire day with their dads. While the fathers and their
children are enjoying the celebration, the mothers and/or guardians are being ministered to
at Riverland Hills Baptist Church where lunch is provided along with a keynote speaker who
will present the gospel.
**Please note: Only volunteers who are in the SCDC system will be allowed to attend this
event. All others need to attend orientation and fill out an SCDC application. This process
takes about two to three weeks. If you have any questions please contact Phil Stallings at
803.808.5860 or email him at [email protected].
