All of the trails open to mountain bikes are also open to motorized vehicles:
singletrack trails are open to motorcycles, and roads are open to ATVs and jeeps
as well. So keep an eye open for things that are faster and heavier than you.

CAUTION:
The Butterknife/Windmill Road loop
(also known as “The Magellan Loop”)
can be very physically demanding,
especially in the summer when it gets
really hot out here. Once you descend
to the river, it’s a long climb out and
there aren’t any short cuts. Take plenty
of water and know your limits.

NOTE: Just so you know,
the 6.9 mile long Windmill Road
climbs 1,990 feet. That’s an average
5.5% grade on a rough jeep road.
Enjoy.

This map was created for COPMOBA in
2015 using the best information available.
Mountain biking can be a dangerous sport
(and we all have the scars to prove it!), so
be careful and if anything does go wrong it
ain’t our fault. If you do have any
comments, compliments, or gripes you can
send them to:
[email protected]. This map
and other regional trail maps can be found

Getting to the Trailhead
From Downtown Grand Junction: Take 7th Street north to Grand Avenue, turn
left (west). Go 1.4 miles to Monument Road (this will take you over the railroad
and over the river) and turn left. Go just 0.2 mile to D Road, turn left. (If you cross
the canal you went too far.) After 0.3 mile D Road turns right and becomes
Rosevale Road; go 0.9 mile on Rosevale Road to Little Park Road, turn right. Go
4.2 miles to the undeveloped Third Flats parking area (it’ll be on your right), or go
another 1.1 miles to start at the more developed Bangs Canyon Trailhead .
