“Notes” from Phil & Amy
Make Space to Receive God
Today’s Entrance Antiphon:
O God, come to my assistance;
O Lord, make haste to help me! You are my rescuer,
my help; O Lord, do not delay. Our First Reading
from Ecclesiastes: “All things are vanity!” Some
people have labored skillfully a whole lifetime, but the
fruits of their labor go to others who did nothing.
What good comes from hard work? Everything is
vanity. Our Responsorial Psalm 95: If today you hear
his voice, harden not your hearts. The second Reading
from Colossians: Since you now belong to Christ, set
your heart on things above rather than on things of
earth. For in Christ there is not Greek or Jew, slave or
free person. “Christ is all and in all.” Our Gospel
from Luke: Jesus told a parable about the rich man
who stored up all his wealth in order to eat, drink and
be merry. God told him, “You fool, this night your
life will be demanded of you.” In this way Jesus
encouraged people to grow rich, not for themselves,
but in God’s sight. The Communion Antiphon from
Wisdom: You have given us, O Lord, bread from
heaven, endowed with all delights and sweetness in
every taste.
All that is of value in this life comes from God
and is given freely. It is up to us to rid ourselves of
the greed and avarice that prevent us from seeing and
feeling God’s grace. Today’s gospel reading leads us
to examine our priorities and values. We will soon
pass away like everyone else. But we needn’t fear
because we are baptized in the Lord. Baptism is a
covenant between us and God. It is like a marriage
contract where both parties give themselves to each
other. We give ourselves to God by striving to live in
the light of God’s word. Wow, that’s our psalm right
there today. Let us open our eyes to the light that
comes from God and our ears to the divine voice from
heaven that daily calls out this charge: If you hear
God’s voice today, harden not your hearts (Psalm
95:8). One more thought on applying the readings to
our liturgy. Jesus taught us to pray simply and to
appeal directly to our Father who is the source of all.
In the breaking of the bread we proclaim that this is
the bread that disrupts our sense of security in worldly
possessions. So, listen for God’s invitation. Make
space in your life to receive God.
Wow! That’s July just like that. In
August and starting with today’s scripture readings we
see where we are and where we’re going on this

journey with Jesus to Jerusalem. Our next 4 week’s
Gospels can be headed “In all things, consider the
end” and it gives great catechesis on how to live the
Christian life. Continue being part of this Holy Year
of Mercy.
God’s Grace,
Phil & Amy
P.S. Thinking about joining choir this year? Here’s a
thought to ponder….according to a 2013 study from
Sweden, human heartbeats synchronize with one
another when we sing together. Singing together
strengthens our bond as a community! Tina Knipp,

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions
of Our Lady of Fatima.
On the first Saturday of each month parishioners gather to turn their hearts of
sincere piety to our Blessed Mother. Please join us in church on Saturday morning
from 9:00AM – 9:30AM to honor Our Lady’s message.
Fatima Explained
The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared six times to three shepherd
children ("The Three Seers") near the town of Fatima, Portugal between May 13 and
October 13, 1917. Appearing to the children, the Blessed Virgin told them that She
had been sent by God with a message for every man, woman and child living in our
century.
Coming at a time when civilization was torn asunder by war and bloody violence, She promised that Heaven
would grant peace to all the world if Her requests for prayer, reparation and consecration were heard and
obeyed.
7th Grade Science News
During last school year, the 7th graders had fun
studying the human body systems. Along with
learning about the various body systems, they also
explored blood types. Here, they explore a
simulation on blood types which demonstrates how
doctors know which blood types are safe to use for
their patients.

6th Grade Science News
During last school year, the 6th grade students learned
about many different energy sources in science
class. As a culminating activity, the students learned
more about solar and wind energy in a hands-on lab
exploration. Wind energy studies explored the
different amounts of energy produced by changing the
number of turbine blades, and the angles of those
blades. Solar studies explored the energy produced
by solar panels, solar heating, and ultraviolet
radiation. We also had the opportunity to build and
use a hydropower car!
Tickets can be reserved now! I look forward to
enjoying a round of golf with you!!! For more
information or to reserve a spot, please contact Bill
