Bully Busters Encourage Courtesy in Assemblies
Last Thursday, March 24th, all RLBMS students attended assemblies about stopping bullying in our school. The Bully Busters
program is a club of seventh and eighth graders and Mr. Ziems.
The group tries to help kids who attend Robert L. Bland Middle
School and who are being bullied. Remember that bullying is
when a person is threatening another person’s safety or security.
The Bully Busters showed a video about a group of high school
friends. These teens made a disrespectful meme about a girl. The
student who made the meme put it on Facebook and hung a
printed copy on the girl’s locker. One of the friends realizes that
his own sister is being bullied, too; she is crying and isolates herself from the family. The next day, the brother takes the mean
photo off the girl’s locker. He stops hanging out with those boys.
This is an important lesson. Don't hang out with people who are a
bad influence on you. Don't let people lower your self-esteem, and
don't let bullies affect you.

Around the School: Students Recommend Good Books
The last Around the
School question was:
What are the titles of the books
in the RLBMS Library with
five gold stars?
If you know the answer, then write it and your
name on a piece of paper and put it in the
Around the School box at the library circulation
desk. One correct answer will be chosen on
Thursday. We may print that student’s picture
in the next issue, and the student will win a
prize from the store.
Kassie Hughes was one of two
students who submitted the correct answer. Are you looking for a
good read? You can find the Gold
Star Books posted in the hallway
of the library. When a student
likes a book, they can add a gold
star. Up to five students can add a
star to a book. Just ask to add a
gold star to your favorite book.
New Question:
Where do the 8th graders go for the
end-of-the-year reward trip?

Patriot Illustrated: Girls’ Softball and Track Practice
Last Thursday, the RLBMS Lady Patriots softball team kicked off their season with a
win, beating Elkins 15-0 before the fourth inning. This is because of a 15-run mercy rule,
when the losing team can probably not catch up. It was a good hitting game, with lots of
doubles and triples hit.
This Wednesday, The Lady Patriots played against Richie County and won 12-2. They
played again at Taylor County on Thursday, and won 12-4. Good job, Lady Patriots!
The first track meet of the season will be April 2nd. The team has been practicing hard.
Ask Phoebe
Dear Phoebe,
Do you prefer pickles or cucumbers?
—FoodisLife
Dear FoodisLife,
I like both pickles and cucumbers, but I prefer pickles as a topping. They make a good topping because of their tanginess. I prefer to have
cucumbers by themselves with ranch dressing.
Pickles are more easily digested than cucumbers,
which some people complain make them burp.
