SIROLL Fara Electrostatic Oiler
Automatic electrostatic coating application
SIROLL Fara Electrostatic Oiler, provided by Siemens
Metals Technologies, ensures excellent coating uniformity
for steel and aluminium plants at an affordable price.
The automated, non-contact, non-pressurized system
is designed to apply protective or lubricating coatings
(oil, wax or chemicals) to moving metal substrates, in
strip or sheet form, accurately and effectively. The result
is improved end product quality with reduced wastage
and increased yield. In addition, the oiler provides rust
protection and lubrication for presses.
The system can apply coating weights from 2mg/m² up to
5000mg/m² per side to a substrate moving at speeds up to
and in excess of 2000 meters a minute and at spray widths
in excess of 2300mm.
Many of our recent product developments and
improvements have been made as a result of customer
feedback and ensure that we can meet the exacting
standards that you and your clients require.
The system can handle a wide range of oils, from traditional
fatty oils through to esters and edible oils.
Our extensive experience and knowledge allows us to
incorporate the essential modifications which are necessary
to allow the trouble-free application of the latest dry
lubricants and hot-melt coatings.
Reliability
Benefits
쮿 High efficiency
– Coating material application is >98%
– Overspray is negligible, particles are only attracted to
target
– Less wastage
– Substantial savings in coating material cost
쮿 Health and safety
– Minimized atmospheric pollution
– Less cleaning, less risk of unhygienic debris
– Operating personnel work in a clean, hazard free
environment
쮿 Improved product quality
– Coating is evenly distributed, uniformity guaranteed
at +/- 10%
– Improved coil handling
쮿 Non-contact system
– Minimal wear parts
– Minimal production downtime for maintenance
– Easy to operate
쮿 System specification
– A wide range of coating weights and line speeds can
be accommodated
– Can be installed in limited space on line
– Can apply oils and waxes/dry lubricants with one system
Proven reliability has been achieved as a result of the strong
design ethos with which we pride ourselves. The sturdy
construction, simple mechanical design and PLC control
system is specifically designed to withstand the harsh
environments of steel and aluminium producers.

Operating Principle
The system is simple yet effective,
based on the theory that unlike
particles attract and like particles
repel. The coating material is pumped
from the heated working tank to the
metering pump assembly, which is
then driven at the correct speed for
the coating weight and line speed
(calculated automatically by the
control system). The material flows
into the heated spray applicators and
is evenly distributed along the spray
edge of each applicator.
A DC high voltage charge is then
applied to the coating material, via
the applicators. Initially the material
breaks into small jets, then into smaller
and smaller particles which can only
hold so much charge. Eventually, the
internal energy causes it to break into
ever smaller particles increasing its
surface area until the charge density
per square metre (Rayleigh limit) has
been exceeded.
This continues until gradually a very
dense and uniform mist of coating
material forms (through repulsion).
Since like charges repel and unlike
charges attract, this uniformly
dispersed mist of coating material
is drawn (through attraction) to the
potential difference of the complete
width of the grounded substrate.
Since the substrate attracts the coating
material the application elements,
which are positioned each side of the
substrate, apply the finely atomized
coating materials in a uniform and
homogenous film across the entire
width of the substrate and along the
length of the substrate, using the
pure electrostatic process. Any excess
material is collected in the bottom of
the enclosure and either returned to
the working tank or to waste via the
sump pump.
