Underwriting on
WOSU TV and Radio
The Friends of WOSU Board has kicked off a
new season of the Speakers Bureau with the
“WOSU Media Munch.” In conjunction with
Methodist Eldercare Services (Wesley Ridge/
Wesley Glen), the Friends Board is making
lunchtime speaking engagements this summer
at senior centers around central Ohio. The
“WOSU Media Munch” comes with a boxed
lunch and audience members learn about
WOSU Public Media, as well as one of our
well-known community engagement projects,
Columbus Neighborhoods.
On-air underwriting
announcements on WOSU
Public Media recognize your
company’s support of public
broadcasting and give you
an opportunity to share your
company’s message with our
highly desirable audiences.
With video clips and anecdotes from the
WOSU Public Media production staff, each
Speakers Bureau event provides behindthe-scenes details on the Emmy® awardwinning Columbus Neighborhoods series and
accompanying outreach activities.

President Dale Heydlauff will be hosting the
“Media Munch” at the Gahanna Senior Center.

July Brings Hot

Cool Music on
The American
Sound
Saturdays at 6pm with host
Jennifer Hambrick
Charlie Chaplin
Fretworks
Saturdays at 7pm with host
John Rittmeyer
This month Fretworks will bring
you a variety of music and artists,
including works for one, two, three,
and four guitars. The first Saturday
happens to follow the 4th of July,
so we’ll have some American music:
Gershwin for a mandolin quartet,
Copland for guitar quartet, and
Robert Beaser’s Mountain Songs for
flute and guitar.
Later in the month, David Russell
will play a lute suite by Bach
arranged for guitar, and we’ll hear
Paul O’Dette with music for the
lute. Some new artists to John—
the Duo Trans Atlantique and Duo
Sonidos—feature two guitars,
and violin and guitar, respectively.
They’ll have music from the movies
and some tangos. Old friends like
Pepe Romero and Christopher
Parkening will be on hand for
concertos by Vivaldi and a suite by
Michael Praetorius. And speaking of
movies, a guitar trio will play a suite
of tunes written by Charlie Chaplin
for some of his greatest films.
What would summer in central
Ohio be without a good, oldfashioned heat wave? While we
don’t know exactly when Mother
Nature will turn up the fire, it’s a
pretty good bet July will see some
high temps.
We’ll cool off with some of
America’s most beautiful and
inventive music, including Jennifer
Higdon’s Trumpet Songs, Eric
Whitacre’s Water Night and Jerome
Moross’s Symphony No. 1. Also,
hear plenty of fun music for the dog
days of summer. Jennifer invites
you to join her this month for the
midsummer melt-down on The
American Sound, Saturdays at 6pm
on Classical 101!
